Hello all, Hope everyone keeps safe!

Folks, I want to do NVDA certification. So my question is, Do we have a chance to do NVDA certification? If yes, please share the required material, and let me know where We can do.

We don't know what is meant by while moving. Are you saying the beeps change in pitch as you move a round a page or something else?

Hi Richard, This sounds like it would be aggravating, Have you
pressed the CTRL key and tapped the letter J key to see if there's
something trying to download or re-download in this list of your
downloaded files?

Do you have the browzer Nav? Go to its setting and set beeper volume to a lower level.

The toggle to turn of beeps is the nvda key + letter u which will do
sounds as in beeps, speak or off.

Are you using a alfa or beta of nvda you will get beeps there on the
page if it comes across problems but if keeps on going do not worry.

I thought there might of been a setting if you were using audio themes
but there is only one when the page loads.

Re: copy to clip board

Every update to virtually any piece of software that includes new features and/or feature changes makes clear the truth of the following two oft-repeated sayings:

1. No good deed goes unpunished.

2. You can please some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you'll never please all of the people all of the time.

Defaults for any given behavior have to be chosen.  It's a problem only if that behavior cannot be changed to suit the user, and sometimes not a particularly big one then.  But, ideally, most things should have an off/on option.

Unless you use an add-on, the announcement is only made in browse mode. You can see if you have copied or cut something to the clipboard with the command NVDA key c. That will read what is on the clipboard if it isn't too large.

Hi. Does it only announce that text is copied to the clipboard in browse mode? I was trying to copy text in a word document, and it wasn't announced. On a related subject, does it also announce that items have been cut to the clipboard?

Thanks,

Louise

Re: Native NVDA Driver for Alva Satellite 584

Well I just searched about, there is no native driver in fact the same message was asked on another blind tech list in 2016.

I then looked at optelec's site and there are no drivers.

Worse still none of their displays have native drivers for nvda, some have jaws, dolphin and windoweyes support but there are no native drivers for any alva displays for nvda.

At least none officially from the manufacturer if that answers that.

I haven't searched more than that, but maybe look on github and see if there are any.

Re: Native NVDA Driver for Alva Satellite 584

Given that this display dates from approximately 14 years ago, the probability of any new native support for it is so close to zero as to effectively be zero.

There was a topic about this very thing in 2016 on the BlindTech Group:  NVDA and alva satellite 584
It's not likely that the answer has changed or ever will change.

Re: Native NVDA Driver for Alva Satellite 584

I wander if your narater brltty is causing issues, it shouldn't, however maybe if you uninstall brltty for narator, then install native brltty on windows then it should work but who knows.

its been a while since I had to fiddle with a display.

At least on the humanware one I doodled with, it supported its own codebase using its own driver and brltty and something called openbraille, if your display has other options maybe you can look at that.

You could also load nvda's brltty or install brltty from the website, the usb drivers and such.

I don't think this is realistic giben the age of this display. What
you''re missing when using it via BRLTTY?

Re: NVDA with mainframe terminal emulators

Chris Mullins

Hi

I’ve not worked on a mainframe for about 10 years but programmed for around 25 years, originally using IRMA, then Attachmate Extra and finally Zephyr Passport, all were IBM 3270 emulators.  I used Jaws at that time and all were reasonably accessible once the cursor shape and blink rate had been adjusted such that  Jaws could recognise it.  I don’t know if emulators are more graphical these days, which would make the job much more difficult but I wish you the best of luck.

Cheers

We also use Rumba but to be honest I almost never have to interact with it directly. On the few occasions I have attempted it, I found NVDA to be almost useless. As far as I understand, these emulator programs aren’t really displaying text. It’s more like a graphical window pretending to be text. Not sure how NVDA could tackle that other than optical character recognition which wouldn’t be ideal for this purpose. Hope you figure something out. Let us know.
