Hi,

Actually, Code Factory also published their new driver. It does work with NVDA 2020.4.

I just tried the link and it works.  this appears to be a case where the link may need to be pasted into the browser's address field and not just clicked on.  That's how I tested it now, by pasting it.

I test links before I send them if I find them in searches and this one worked when I tested it by clicking on it as a Google result.  However, based on what you say, I suspect the actual page presents a newer version.

I found a correct link by a Google search.  I tested it before I sent it.  It may be that I didn't copy the correct link or that for some reason, the link was the incorrect one because the new link wasn't copied when I issued the command.

Re: Zoom Enhancements add-on

Gene

Don't worry about the compatibility statements unless they are very old, like NVDA 18 or somewhere around there and no later.  Somewhere around NVDA 18 or 19, many add-ons had to be redesigned because the version of Python, (spelling) changed that NVDA uses and is programmed in.  Even if you install an incompatible version, I believe you will be told that it is incompatible.  It won't hurt anything, I'm not sure if it will even install.

Cearbhall, re Ireland not coming up on the list, I think you're on the PayPal site by then?  We don't ask for a country ourselves.

Roger, thank you very much for your generous donation, we do very much appreciate it!  If you got *a* receipt then the money should have gone through, but I can check if you need (let me know off-list) - also, if you need a more official looking NV Access receipt on letterhead for whatever reason, let me know and I can organise that too - most people don't need that, which is why we don't send it out by default.

Hi.

Just as I thought this wasn't possible, because it never used to be, I tried it and it can definitely happen. So, your best bet is to press Windows+B, search for the NVDA icon and click it (Applications or Enter worked on my end, then go to the settings and set up your NVDA modifier key.

Dear Bob,

Yes, the Zoom Enhancements add-on works with NVDA 2020.4 at my end. An
additional tip I would give is to use the Speech History add-on;
whenever NVDA reads a chat but I miss it because I am multi-tasking or
don't hear it over the audio of the Zoom call itself, this add-on
allows me to review the last several items in NVDA's speech history,
and even copy it to the clipboard which I can then paste somewhere
convenient to read by line, word or character. It is a bit of a
juggle, and I wish the Zoom chat list was much more screen reader
friendly than it currently is natively, but well.

Thanks.

Question about copy text announcement with NVDA 2020.4

Louise Pfau

Hi.  Does the announcement of what is being copied to the clipboard in NVDA 2020.4 only occur in html environments, and if not, can it be enabled in other environments.  When I looked at the "What's New" section after installing 2020.4, all that was indicated was that the announcement would be made.  This was also true of the beta version.

Thanks,

Louise

Re: NVDA keyboard help please

Gene

I don't think your message addresses the problem.  The problem has nothing to do with double key strokes, it is that the NVDA keys don't work.

There may be another reason for this problem, which has come to light on another list.

After a Windows update, someone no longer can use the JAWS key.  Since that is the same key as the NVDA key, it raises the question as to whether a Windows update has caused this problem for some users.  I don't know if the problem occurred immediately after the update or if it happened a little later, which may be important in whether it is the update or a keyboard problem.

As I recall, in a later message, the person reports that their insert key no longer works at all.  Again, that may be an update problem or a keyboard problem.  We may get more information later.

Well I havn't had this, from time to time my enter key double presses and at one stage it got so bad that my system was deleting and doing all sorts of things.

I was about to just reformat when I noticed my usb hub that runs just about everything was turning off and on all the time.

I traced it to a faulty port on the power cube and have it plugged into my dedicated power cube on my desk.

This does use another port but that doesn't matter.

A lot of things have changed since I got upgrades to my room so who knows.

Double enter happens from time to time but its more annoying than anything else.

Sometimes keyboard focus switches due to something pressing itself but I just have to be aware and type slower and not be in a hurry while managing files.

Eventually I may have to replace this mechanical down the road.

Thank god I never eat or drink at the terminal, a thing some friends, students at my flat and family have a habbit of doing.

Unload the program and run it again.  To unload it, open the system tray, Windows key b, and type n until you get to the NVDA icon.
Open the context menu however you usually do it.  Up arrow to exitand press enter.  Then, press it again in a moment.
Now, run NVDA again.  The probem will very likely be solved.

I don't know how many people have this problem and how often.  I use Windows 7 so I haven't reported the problem.  I have no idea if I would have it or have it at all often in Windows 10.

Re: Oddity With NVDA And Thunderbird with Inbox status Line

Even curiouser, when I'm having NVDA read my immediately prior message, in the web interface, it is saying "teeny tiny down arrow" for that character.

But when I continue on to the one previous to that, when it hits it it announces, "fill down pointing small triangle."

This is really, really weird.  Really weird!

Re: Oddity With NVDA And Thunderbird with Inbox status Line

And a follow-up:

When in Tbird, after having made the previously noted dictionary change, when I land on my inbox, where the▾immediately precedes the number of messages, it reads something that sounds like "fill" or "field" (more like the former) tiny down arrow.

I am absolutely certain that the "fill" was not being said in my initial test in Notepad, but when I revisit notpad it now is.  And it continues to be said even after Thunderbird is closed.

I closed NVDA, reopened it, and edited the dictionary entry, during which NVDA said that "fill" when in the pattern, and it had not before, but I edited my replacement string to "teeny tiny down arrow."  When I had NVDA read the line above with said character in it, after the edit, it says only "teeny tiny down arrow."

Curiouser and curiouser.

Re: Oddity With NVDA And Thunderbird with Inbox status Line

By the way, I just put an entry in the default dictionary with the pattern being the single character: ▾
the replacement string being: tiny down arrow
the match type being: whole word.

After that's saved, I had NVDA read the following line that I'd created in Notepad: Now is the time ▾ for all ▾ good men to come to ▾ the aid of their party.

All three tiny down arrow characters were announced as "tiny down arrow."

My gut still says to me that this is an issue with Thunderbird, not NVDA, but if it is then I'd imagine that NVDA 2020.3 would announce the same thing that 2020.4 does, and I don't think that's the case.
