Getting rid of the word linefeed

Chris Nova

Hi all,
I use Studio Recorder for audio editing.
Whenever I use ctrl left or ctrl-right arrow, NVDA says Linefeed.
Does anyone know of a way to remove linefeed?
It is an audio editor. I can understand in a document. :)
Thanks,
Chris

The trial ends after a certain number of days.

One needs to purchase a license to in order to continue using the voices.

I think I saw Zoey in the list of voices but I have not tried it yet.

For me, the CodeFactory voices have a much nicer user interface.  You can download the voices from within the add-on.  Installation is seamless.

Hi listers:

I see there are at least 2 different companies selling the Vocalizer voices for NVDA, and I wonder if there is any difference between the options out there.  For example, there are voices from Tiflotecnia, or CodeFactory.  They do the same thing, but, the actual binaries are totally different.  Also, the CodeFactory option seems to also include eloquence.

Are there advantages in getting CodeFactory voices, vs. those from Tiflotecnia?

Thanks!

Not to mention Office 2010.  From the End of Support for Office 2010 Page:
Support for Office 2010 ended on October 13, 2020 and there will be no extension and no extended security updates. All of your Office 2010 apps will continue to function. However, you could expose yourself to serious and potentially harmful security risks.

There is a reason that the NVDA Group Rules state, very clearly:
-------

Unsupported versions of any software may only be discussed on the Chat Subgroup, not the main NVDA Group.

Windows:  Only Windows 8.1 and currently supported versions of Windows 10.  Members should refer to the Windows Lifecycle Fact Sheet to determine which versions of Windows are currently supported.  Information about the dates on which specific versions of Windows 10 reached or will reach their end of service dates is listed there as well and will be updated as new versions are released.

Note that it is acceptable to direct a user to the NVAccess or Microsoft sites where older versions can be downloaded, however, this is different than supporting a specific version of software or operating system.

NVDA:  NVDA has, at any given time, a single version under active support.  If a question arises about how to update to that version, and you’re on an earlier version, that will be permitted as transition problems can occasionally occur.

-------

We are now just short of six years into the era of Windows 10.  Windows 7 is officially out of support.  It is still possible to do an in-place upgrade, at no cost, from Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10.  For those still on Windows 7, that's precisely what they should do.  If you intend to stay in the Windows ecosystem you do not, under any circumstances, use an out-of-support version of that operating system that no longer receives security updates.

The same is true of MS-Office as well.  The most dangerous period is generally the first full year after the date a given version goes out of support, because that's when those who wish to hack have a field day trying to find as-yet-undiscovered vulnerabilities that can then be exploited without any chance of patching.

There are free alternatives to MS-Office and many email clients as well as webmail.  There is a free path to the currently supported version of Windows.  Those options should be accessed when needed, and anyone still using Windows 7 needs to get off of it.

And the quotation of the rules is there so I can emphasize that I will be monitoring, and enforcing same.  If you have chosen to use out-of-support software that is your choice.  But what isn't is trying to discuss it on the NVDA group.  The Chat Subgroup is available, or some other venue.

Hi Bob,
It sounds like you’ve exhausted all the suggestions you’ve received here and it still isn’t working as expected. Have you opened up a ticket on the NVDA git hub for this? Probably wouldn’t hurt to get the devs taking a look at it if they aren’t already.

Thanks for raising this.  It also looks like the link should be http:// rather than https:// (we updated most of our links when we updated all of the NVDA links to https:// but this might have been one we shouldn't have changed).  That doesn't fix your problem though as it seems you'd figured out your way past that as well.

I wrote to info@... and will let you know if I get a response.  In the meantime, I can confirm I also get the request for a username and password.

Kind regards

Tab out, shift tab back in (or use a method of your choosing to exit the edit box, then jump right back in to it).  It's a workaround when the problem arises, but a simple one that I have yet to see not work.

And as you've just noted, this seems to be something about how at least one Chromium-based browser does things, and those use a very different rendering engine than Firefox does, which could account for the difference.

You are talking about the editor being used, evidently.  When I encounter an editor that has this problem, I type and review my comment in Notepad, copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into the edit field on the web site.

There was a discussion of this recently (and I need to find it, as I know I was part of it).

What are you expecting to hear?  I know that if NVDA is not set to read out letters as you type them, there is no way for it to know that a word is complete until you either hit space within an edit box, or tab out of it and then go back to it.  Words get recognized when they "become words" via whitespace of some kind being entered, or when you leave an edit box.  And when you leave an edit box with instant focus (in forms mode) being placed on another edit box makes the screen reader believe, quite logically, that this is what is important now, so it essentially "shuts itself up" before it even could say what you've tabbed out of.

That Escape is another way of signaling that the word is complete, but you have not yet left that edit box, so the word is read.

It's very similar for a much larger text box, where each word is not read until it "becomes a word" via separator, and the whole content of the box only if you do something to exit the box and come back to it, or to move back to the start of the text within the box, and do a "read all".

This is with sub foldrs located under the inbox and with the tree branch closed with the left arrow.

Does anyone else experience anything like this? This occurs with all installed synthesizers and voices and with variation of punctuation with all, some, most and characters. It stops only when I turn punctuation to none.
