Re: nvda remote sound question and working on command line via laptop
You're correct that >> is an append redirect while > is a "wipe out whatever may have been there, if anything, and start afresh" redirect.
I was only addressing the first step in my example. You're absolutely correct that all subsequent steps where you wanted to retain whatever had been logged previously would need to use the >> as the redirect form. If you don't want retention then > is what you want to use at any step where you want to start the log from scratch. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 Any idiot can face a crisis. If that method of appending does not append you might try two greater than signs thus:
dir >> logfile.txt

Re: nvda remote sound question and working on command line via laptop
One of the old tricks that I used to use under Unix, and I believe it works under Windows Command Prompt and PowerShell as well, was redirecting the output and error output from my first command in a script to a log file that I knew the name of, and for each subsequent command append redirecting the same (that is, if you need to have a comprehensive history of the entire set of steps logged - if not, then a straight redirect at each step and having notepad open the resulting file immediately afterward makes life much easier.
An example of same, in command prompt, using the output of the dir command: dir > logfile.log 2>&1 && notepad logfile.log This opens the logfile in notepad automatically after the dir command completes. But, it does NOT stop continued execution of the bat file. If you want pauses you need to specifically put those in. You'd also want to exit notepad after each examination if you were continuing to append, as once something's open in notepad it's not going to auto update in the existing window as you append to it. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 20H2, Build 19042 Any idiot can face a crisis. I can't answer your second question, but I can answer your first one.

Re: NVDA not reading books in kindle book viewer
Richard B. McDonald
Actually, there is a way to list only books with screen reader support. When you first do a search on Amazon under Kindle, there appears a bunch of filters. One of them, and it is one of the last of many, is a check box to list only books with screen reader support.

HI Alexandre!
Thank you for answering my questions. As far as I know, there are very few books that support screen readers, especially Chinese books.

Another email program isn't an option for this, as the messages in

As far as I know, there is no way to list books with screen reader support. And even worst, you may buy a book with screen reader support and they update the book and the new version is not screen reader enabled. I had a hard dispute with amazon because it happened with 2 books I bought. After a while, the screen reader support was restablished.

Hello!
I think the company was mine... Tiflotecnia, Lda., maker of one of the Vocalizer Expressive versions available... No, we will not sell your voice without talking with you...
The voice works very well and it is really expressive!
Best regards,

All of these questions are good questions, and I will try to answer them all right now. The reason it is so good for only 5 dollars is because I want a very good TTS voice that anyone who needs it or wants it can use, but not have to spend a lot of money. It is a real TTS voice, not me talking. I recorded 755 long phrases to make the voice, and that's why it's so good. I already had a customer earlier but it was a company. I don't know why a TTS voice company wanted to buy my voice, but as long as they aren't planning on selling it, I guess it's OK. The person who said I wanted to get started and that I am a young creator is right. I am just getting started. The good news is that you don't have to use NVDA to use the voice, as it is SAPI5. I don't have a lot of money, that's why I couldn't make an add-on for NVDA. I haven't the slightest clue where to even begin with creating an add-on by myself. I hope my answers helped. However, I have one more thing to say. I don't think it's right to get suspicious about something that was just started. If someone gave a bad review, that would make sense. However, for people to keep making other people think that it's bad is not acceptable until there is evidence there is something bad. I hope that company who bought the voice from me for 5 dollars can tell you that it works and they can even post a video of them using it if they want to. Thanks.

By default, the program plays the default Windows sound for incoming mail. If you want to see what setting is being used, you can checck in the following manner:

When you are in the main window of the program, issue the command alt t. Up arrow once to options and press enter. Start tabbing. You will get to a check box that says play a sound. Check it with the space bar if it isn't checked. Then tab until you get to a radio button that says something like play default sound. If it says something else like play another file, let us know. There are one or two things to know to make working with the options interface much more accessible. I'll explain them if you wish. When you have finished working in options, close it with control f4, not alt f4. Control f4 will return you to the main program window. Alt f4 will close the program and when you open it again, you will be in options again. The reason you need to use control f4 is because options is a tab, not a separate window in this program. Gene

Re: Thunderbird anounces new messages
That is not an NVDA question.
Anyway, go to Tools, Options, General, and navigate to the level 1 heading "incoming messages". Right below that are checkboxes that tell Thunderbird how you want to be notified when new mail arrives. One of them is "play a sound".

If this is enough of a problem, try reading messages as plain text and see what happens. Also, you could try using another e-mail program and see what happens. Firefox has a setting to use simple HTML. That setting allows messages to use HTML for such things as formatting, but doesn't allow anything to run or any HTML to do anything in a message except that which displays formatting and which allows you to follow links.
