Hello Ollie,

Unfortunately, my thread on this seems to have been broken up into a number of different threads. However, if you do the following:
2. Search for the topic you wish to find. In this case, you can search for the hashtag adminnotice.
3. Go through that page, and you will find my initial message on this topic at https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/message/82397?p=,,,100,0,0,0::Created,,%23adminnotice,100,2,0,81249685

Note to anyone that the initial link I posted, in step #1, will work to find any message on any topic.

Two more things:

1. Posting threads with appropriate subjects helps everyone, should they choose to utilize the archive, even years down the road.
2. Maintaining threads without starting a completely new one is really important as well, as it means that finding a specific thread on a topic is more easily accomplished.

I hope this helps.

How about pressing alt to open the ribbons or menus, then alt again to close them? That may not help either but I wonder if that is an instance where, for some reason, leaving and returning to where you were on the screen would work around the problem.

Re: reading my documents folder

Nope.  But it's worth trying Using SFC (System File Checker) and DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

If that doesn't fix it, then it would be worth trying The Most Basic Troubleshooting Steps for Suspected NVDA Issues, to determine whether NVDA or an add-on might be at fault.

If you prefer, try those troubleshooting steps before SFC and DISM.  It's a six of one, half a dozen of another proposition depending on what you want to rule in or rule out first.

Have you done the troubleshooting steps recommended on this list to see if it is a windows and not an nvda issue? Look in the group archives for more information, earlier today in fact, I think? I get the feeling this is not nvda releated as I've seen this in windows before. It fixes itself in my case.

If this doesn't work, please tell me why and what you want it to do, since I don't use an input system like this, and I might be able to come up with something better.

I use two switches in order to type and navigate using an expanded version of morse code through an alternative navigation device. This effectively means I am a one-finger typist. Several years ago, someone found for me an NVDA plug in or add on that made the NVDA key a sticky key, but it was very clumsy to use. First, you had to activate the add on. Then perform the task. And finally, dactivate the add on. It is also worth noting that the CAPS LOCK is not a viable alternative. I am wondering if there may be a more updated and streamline solution? Thanks to Joseph Lee for telling me about this list.

Set NVDA Modifier as a Sticky Key

[Moderator's Note:  I've removed the phone numbers from the end of this message, as it's generally not a good idea to post these on groups where the archives are public.  Ted, if you really prefer these remain in place, then just leave them there on subsequent messages and I won't touch them.  This gives you an opportunity to decide for yourself whether you really want your phone numbers posted on a group where the archives are searchable by anyone (including bots trying to cull phone numbers).]

Good afternoon, list.

My name is Ted and it is my first time on this list. My primary screen reader has been JAWS for almost 25 years. I do use NVDA on the rare occasion JAWS quits unexpectedly. There is a feature in the JAWS Settings Center called Insert Mode. This is off by default, but when turned on, the JAWS key becomes a stickey key.

I've read that before, but unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem.

Possibilities:

- The add-on does not work properly with the training program with a German W10.

- Some steps have to be taken before. I haven't had time to read the add-on help by now L

Thx

Re: No speech when running NVDA.

Jumping in late to this one - but how did you go Ari?  I see everyone suggested basically all the things I would have.

If all else fails, you can send me a copy of your NVDA log which you should find in your %temp% folder, although resetting the settings should fix it (NVDA+control+r three times quickly) if nothing else.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi Ari

If you have sounds when you go to start nvda does it make a sound then
go quite? If you use the windows key + letter D will it talk on the desk
top. as at times when it goes to the task bar people think it is not
working.

Using the arrow keys will speak out any thing there.

You might have speech mode turned off If this is the case use the nvda
key + letter S to toogle it to speech mode talk.

You can also reset nvda back to factory defaults if it comes up or use
the shortcut nvda key + ctrl key + the letter R 3 times unless you do it
through the menu.

but make sure if you do this after you go through the menu to load it at
startup etc this is the one you get whenn you do a fresh install of nvda
with setting desktop etc.

make sure  you get this message. You might have to restart nvda for it
to come up.

Hopefully that fixes the problem.

I am guessing the nvda.ini file might of got corrupted some how.

If this is the case I think you said you uninstalled nvda from the
computer there is another place to delete the settings from.

Press the windows key + the letter R then type in the following
%appdata% then press the enter key. It will give you a list of folders
locate the nvda folder then delete it out then use the alt key + f4 key
to close that screen .

That nice fresh copy of nvda install that to the pc and it should be
right to go.

You might have to use another screen reader narrator will do the trick
to do the above mentioned or a pair of eyes.
