What NVDA version?

Does it work when you run with add-ons disabled?

What speech synth?

Jackie, at least in 20H2, that no longer seems to work. I noticed it in passing last week, and just checked again per your comment.

Well, anything can get corrupted somehow.  Were I you I would first uninstall and reinstall add-on updater itself, then see what happens.  Or just manually download the add-on that it's being recalcitrant about updating and apply it manually.

"These things happen (and we don't know why)," is something I have had to tell clients repeatedly over the years.  And an uninstall/reinstall as a fix attempt is not uncommon.

When is the last time you exited NVDA and started it again?  Unless I'm imagining things, I only get these notifications from Add-On Updater when I am starting up NVDA, and even then only once per day if (or some day-ish length period) if I decide to skip them.  If I exit and restart NVDA for around 24 hours after a "no thanks" response I'm not asked again.

Hi,

Also, Add-on Updater must be told to check for updates for add-ons, and I guess that could be a factor here.

Cheers,

Hi

Which synth package are you using? if it uses a add on it might have to be updated to the latest one for it to work with the newer version of nvda? or are you using a alfa copy of nvda?

Might I also say that if you invoke the run dialog (windows key + r)

you'll also get an administrative (elevated) command prompt.

It is an instance of Command Prompt being run with administrative
privileges.  This is a frequently used term, which is why I use it, and
yours is a frequent question from those encountering it for the first time.
But when you see it elsewhere, whether in reference to Command Prompt or
PowerShell, it means you've opened it with "Run as Admin" selected.  The
window frame for the session itself should have "Administrator: " in the
title before either Command Prompt or PowerShell, depending on which you're
using.

Remember, that even if you are using an account with administrative
privileges, neither Command Prompt or Power Shell will open with those
active unless you specifically invoke them with Admin privilege.

If you hit WinKey+X, then down arrow or up arrow to the entry for Command
Prompt or PowerShell, there will be two entries, one with "(Admin)" next to
the name and that's the one that opens an elevated session.  The one where
it's not present gives you more typical user privileges, not full admin
privileges, for that session.

In an elevated command prompt . . .
Try running an:  SFC /scannow
then follow that with a:  DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then see what happens afterward.

The group owner and I have repeatedly asked that this question not be posted to the group.   Releases show up when releases show up, period, end of sentence.  Announcements occur on this group and several other venues, as well as the NVAccess News Page as beta versions are released and release candidates as well.

There are so many factors that can change the release timeline that any guess, prior to beta stage, is subject to substantial change.

Please watch these pages, the News Page, the In Process publication (every new one has its presence made known here), and other blind-centric tech venues.

It'll get here when it gets here is the short answer.

This topic is now locked.

No, as far as I know, any screen reader announces row and columns titles unless they are defined in Excel...

The NVDA commands define that in Excel, at least they used to do that...

Please note the issue of NVDA do not announce them when using UIAutomation in Excel...

Hi Brian

Yes I am aware of this method to define column and row headings. I just do not understand why this method is necessary for having column headings announced in a simple table in Excel. Both Jaws and Narrater (I think) will announce Excel table column headings without first manually defining them.

Anyway thanks a lot for your reply Brian.

Windows 10 App Essentials 21.04 released #addonrelease

Hi all,

Windows 10 App Essentials 21.04 is now available.

In addition to source code refinements, this update is dedicated to Calculator app. Specifically:

  • NvDA will announce results window when Delete (including Numpad Delete) is pressed to clear results.
  • NVDA will braille expressions and results on a braille display.

IMPORTANT NOTICE on Windows 10 feature update compatibility: the next version of Windows 10 App Essentials add-on will be the last version to support Windows 10 Version 2004 (May 2020 Update/build 19041). Also, although not set in stone yet, the next version may also require NVDA 2020.4 or later.

Cheers,

Joseph
