Re: Reading just text in red

If, by chance, the changes are not being made in conjunction with the track changes feature, at least in word you can use the advanced find option [ALT+H,FD,A], format button, font option, to find something that is a specific color.  You need put nothing in the find string, but need to set the color you're looking for.   If you don't set the specific font or any of the other attributes than color, it's only searching for any text in any font in any size that is the color specified.

If you want to get heavy-duty into advanced find in the Office Suite programs I'd suggest heading over to the Microsoft Office Accessibility Discussion Group and going crazy with questions there.

Not quite what you're looking for, but in my BrowserNav add-on, I have a keystroke "Jump to next format change" assigned to tilde key by default (`). You can use it to find the next word written in a different color, but then you'd have to still manually check the color for example with NVDA+F keystroke.

I sometimes get e-mail messages where someone has made comments in a color which is different from that of the text being commented. I am hoping there is a quick way to tell NVDA to just read that portion of the document.

Hi, Everyone.

When I use the add-on Golden Cursor, all the actions I do are not report in automatic follow mode. Why Golden Cursoor works only in review mode, not in Automatic follow mode? Is there something to change that in nvda parameters?

Thanks for answers.

In part, the user guide says the following regarding One Core Voices:
Windows 10 includes new voices known as "OneCore" or "mobile" voices. Voices
are provided for many languages, and they are more responsive than the
Microsoft voices available using Microsoft Speech API version 5.

I think some or perhaps many people reading the sentence, may draw an
incorrect conclusion. The sentence is correct and it specifies Microsoft
voices. But I think another sentence should be added that other voices,
such as the MSAPI version of Eloquence, are as or more responsive. I don't
know if they are more responsive and someone familiar with both would have
to write the statement accurately.

My point is that, worded as it is, it is easy for people to misunderstand
what is written as applying to all MSAPI5 voices.

Its really easy to figure out, to add voices is to type add voices into windows search (unless you need instruction  on how to search) and hit enter on add speech voices, and you should land on the add voices button under settings, hit enter, and choose your language to add the voices by hitting space to select then hit the add button, and then they should download

This is an instance where I am invoking group rules and locking a topic.  It has been made abundantly clear in the Welcome Message, Monthly Reminder, and several Admin Notices that out-of-support software is not to be discussed on the NVDA Group, only the Chat Subgroup.  Outlook Express has been out of support for many years now and on top of that poses a security risk to use.  From the Welcome Message that includes the Group Rules:

The discussion of software on the NVDA Group is limited to software currently in support.  Depending on the type of software, specific version numbers will change with time.  Users are expected to know what remains in support and what has been dropped, and announcements will be made to this group when new software is released. It should be assumed that, when a new version of software is released, primary discussion will take place on that version, not versions of software which are years old.

Unsupported versions of any software may only be discussed on the Chat Subgroup, not the main NVDA Group.

This isn't triggered by setting a "table" in Excel, although I can see the logic in your thinking.  The trick would be working out when you wanted column headings and / or row headings read out?  By default Excel sets up the table with a heading row, but you can go into the table settings to change that, which would be tricky to monitor for I expect.

In any case, if you think it would be a very useful feature, do feel free to create an issue on GitHub: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/new/choose

Am my expectation wrong, when I expect NVDA to read the column headings or do I miss a setting somewhere?

Re: Reading just text in red

Quentin Christensen

Are they using a different colour, or are they using track changes?  In Word, there is a feature called track changes.  So, if you send me a document, I can turn on track changes, then read it and delete and insert text and make changes I want, then send it back to you.  The inserted text appears as red and with an underline.  Deleted text is red with strikethrough.  If that's what they've used, press alt+r, h, 1 to jump to the next change or alt+r, f to jump to the previous change.

In Word, you can also do a search (use CONTROL+H rather than CONTROL+F) and under "more" (ALT+M), go to "Format" (ALT+O) then select the appropriate format type (Font in this case) and settings (colour).

Once you search, you can then use CONTROL+PAGE UP and CONTROL+PAGE DOWN to move between instances of the specified formatting.  Note that track changes doesn't appear as a change in formatting, so you can't use this method for that.  But it works great if they have actually changed the font colour.

Kind regards

Quentin.

A regular user command prompt will launch in your home directory.

C:\Users\YourUserName>

The elevated prompt will launch in something like:

Just press enter after the prompt launches, and you'll hear what directory

One problem is tables as has already been highlighted in this thread. The next issue is the reporting of object and slide alignment. I need to know if all elements on a slide are visible. Yes, we do get that announcement but suppose I have a table obscured by a picture, where should I move the picture to make sure that both the table and picture are visible?

The last issue is playing media in slide show mode. I cannot activate any media in slide show mode.

There is training material on Powerpoint from nvaccess but it does not cover the above points.

And sometimes when I am moving with down arrow between slides in edit mode JAWS announces with each slide  the slide number and then the words know selection.

Come to think of it there are more issues regarding PowerPoint and I hope that JAWS and NVDA will improve the user experience in Microsoft PowerPoint.
