Re: Bluetooth speakers with Windows

Because of how Windows handles power management (and sleeping) for Bluetooth.  There's actually an add-on to address this issue:

Re: Thunderbird not entering trash folder

Yes.  Thunderbird lets you control what happens when you delete a message.

If you open Account Settings for the account where it's not going to trash, then open Server Settings, there is a section with three radio buttons that is entitled, When I delete a message.  The three radio button choices are:

1. Move it to a folder (followed by a dropdown that allows you to select the folder, which defaults to something other than Trash on your account's IMAP server).
2. Just mark it as deleted.
3. Remove it immediately.

If you have anything other than the first choice chosen, or you have the first choice chosen but have not set the folder to Trash under that Gmail account on the server, it's going somewhere else.

Bluetooth speakers with Windows

Daniel McGee

hi all

Why is it, that, whenever I use my bose speaker on windows, with screenreaders, they chop off the first part of what is being spoken. Yet, when I tried Linux, or IOS, no problem at all.

Thunderbird not entering trash folder

Daniel McGee

Hi all

When using my Gmail account with the thunderbird email program. After deleting emails, they end up skipping the trash folder entirely. On iPhone and iPad, they do go into trash before final deletion.

Anyone else experiencing this?

You might write to the authors of the Zoom Accessibility Enhancements Add-on, and ask them to help with this problem in their next version.

https://addons.nvda-project.org/./addons/zoomEnhancements.en.html

They won't be able to help with the screen sharing problem, but the links in chat problem should be solvable.

For audio and video file conversions are use the open source VLC media player with the ad on for NVDA   That way I don’t have to keep installing software for specific tasks

Re: a couple questions sparked by recent topics

Hi,
You must install SAPI5 voices from somewhere other than Settings, the best example being a SAPI5 version of eSpeak NG that you must obtain and install (that product is free, by the way).
Cheers,
Joseph

Hi,
You can install more SAPI5 voices, but you can't fool programs into thinking that OneCore voices are SAPI5 voices because they use different API's.

Hi. There are a couple programs I use that only have access to SAPI voices, although the OneCore voices are more responsive. I've noticed that there are only 2 SAPI voices installed on Windows 10. Is it possible to get some of the OneCore voices in SAPI? I've got a couple of the OneCore voices that I really like. I know how to get additional OneCore voices. Is it possible to get more SAPI voices in the same way?

Thanks,

Re: default speech dictionary, as and American Samoa

Gene

I have no idea why this behavior occurs in the first place.  it isn’t logical.  As isn’t capitalized and there is no period after it so it isn’t an abbreviation.  It makes no sense for one as to be spoken one way and an identical as following soon after to be spoken a different way.  This sounds like a programming error or bug that, as Brian suggested, would be a good idea to report.

As for the speech dictionary, I don’t know how the voice you are using will react, but I just tested my suggestion.  My synthesizer says St. Ives as saint Ives.  If I create a dictionary entry with St. in the pattern field and the letters st in the pronounced as field, St. Ives is pronounced as st Ives.  As I understand the way the NVDA dictionary works, this sort of entry should work regardless of synthesizer.  As I understand it, the screen-reader sends the pronounced as text to the synthesizer so the synthesizer doesn’t even have the chance to know what the original text is that is triggering the unwanted speech.

after checking other voices, same thing with one core marc, , sapi5 zira

I would assume only american voices are affected.

switching caps did not work here, nor could I think of a same sounding
replacement for as, so i haven't got any simpler solution coming to mind

It doesn’t say cap when using reade to end or reading line by line.  It doesn’t even say cap when moving by word.  In short, you get the same information as you do with pitch change.  I agree that this should be adjustable so it won’t say cap when typing if that is wished.

Patrick, I understand how regexes work, but I don't see how yours would capture anything beyond the address followed by the first as, nor how that would likely solve the issue at hand.  But we also lack data about the voice being used, and that's the most likely root of the problem.  I guess it could by splitting that original "as" off from the "well as," but one would still have to know the voice being used to be sure.

I've had to do the same sort of thing as you're proposing for the odd synth that decides to screw up a word as an abbreviation in the very occasional context.

In this case, though, I'd definitely try just matching "as" and substituting "As" and seeing if that does it.  I've had luck with that simple technique on several occasions where two or three letter words which have a meaning as abbreviations get announced as the expansion for the abbreviation when that's not what they actually are in context.

I dread to think about the amount of context processing that has to occur by synths to decide exactly how to pronounce certain things depending on exactly where they are and what surrounds them!
