Re: a couple questions sparked by recent topics

There are also SAPI 5 versions of "Microsoft david" and "Microsoft Zira (spelled Z I R A on my computer)" available by default on Windows 10. I wonder if other "Windows OneCore voices" like "Microsoft Richard" and "Microsoft Mark " are also available in SAPI 5 format.

Thanks,

Louise

Sorry Monte, but they are SAPI5 voices that come with Win 10.
You can confirm this by pressing NVDA+Control+s, changing your synth to SAPI5, and pressing OK.
Then pressing NVDA+control+v, and going through the voices that are listed.

I believe this was originally an install of Windows 10, 1809, and I certainly never chose to download any SAPI voices.

The second voice you mentioned, Zira, is actually spelled z a r a, Zara.
I'm sorry again, but no, it isn't. If you spell the word as it appears in NVDA's voice list when set to SAPI5, you will find that it is Zira, Z i r a, as Louise mentioned.

Hi Louise,

I think the voices you mentioned are Micro Soft One Core voices that come with win10.
Sapi5 voices come with earlier versions of windows or can be downloaded and used with win 10.
The second voice you mentioned, Zira, is actually spelled z a r a, Zara.
That is the voice I use with nvda on this win10 p c.

Others on this listmay tell you where to find other one core voices or other sapi5 voices.

Cheers,

Monte

Hi. I was thinking of getting more SAPI voices like the ones that come with Windows 10 by default. I think they are Microsoft David and Microsoft Zira.
Are there others in the same category?

Thanks,

Luke,
The only add on I can find is the one for goldwave.
Not really looked in to how it works yet because you will know I have been researching braille commands for nvda and braille displays.
The goldwave add on is in the list of add ons listed in get addons.
Not much help I know but hope it puts you in the right direction.

I suspect you will have that problem with any of the high-end audio software. Even Audacity doesn't perform well on older machines, at least not for transcoding or FX tasks.
I can't imagine that Protools will either; it has always been a resource hog.

I use Gold Wave, Audacity and mp3 Direct Cut.  Don't know what your requirements are, but Audacity is the most versatile multi track editor.  Gold wave  also excellent.

I also use the Basic HTML view in my Gmail account.  This was the setting recommended on the website.  I will read the responses to gather tips on how to navigate with NVDA if using Standard View.

Hi.  I find it easier to navigate the gmail interface with “Basic HTML view” vs. “Standard view”.  This is probably due to the fact that when I was first taught how to set up and work with my gmail account, I was instructed to use “Basic HTML view” in order to get the most accessible interface. I know this is not strictly related to NVDA though.

It doesn’t say cap when using reade to end or reading line by line.  It doesn’t even say cap when moving by word.  In short, you get the same information as you do with pitch change.  I agree that this should be adjustable so it won’t say cap when typing if that is wished.

Re: Thunderbird not entering trash folder

Daniel (and anyone else reading),

Remember that Thunderbird has a local Trash folder, which will just be noted as Trash.  If you want it to use your IMAP server's Trash folder you have to go through the dropdown to choose that, and afterward it will show up as something like, "Trash @ {insert email address here}."

Hi,

Go and grab Silenzio from here:-

http://www.stefankiss.sk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=112

This keeps the sound card awake all the time. It's aggressive power management of the sound card that causes the problem.

Jaws has the ability to keep the sound card awake built in, but until we get it for NVDA, then Silenzio is the answer.

Yet, when I tried Linux, or IOS, no problem at all.

Hi Brian

Thanks for telling me about the server settings under the account section. For some reason, I completely tabbed over the treeview where the server settings are held and missed even more settings than I know what to do .

Trash was already selected, but I re selected it in the combo box after double checking what was in there. Now mail is moving to trash as expected.

Thunderbird is such a powerful email client!

Thanks again

Yes.  Thunderbird lets you control what happens when you delete a message.

If you open Account Settings for the account where it's not going to trash, then open Server Settings, there is a section with three radio buttons that is entitled, When I delete a message.  The three radio button choices are:

1. Move it to a folder (followed by a dropdown that allows you to select the folder, which defaults to something other than Trash on your account's IMAP server).
2. Just mark it as deleted.
3. Remove it immediately.

If you have anything other than the first choice chosen, or you have the first choice chosen but have not set the folder to Trash under that Gmail account on the server, it's going somewhere else.
