What kind of interface is it now?  It seems to me to be some sort of hybrid between a web interface and a dialog but that doesn’t mean that that is technically what it is.

Hi.  I didn't realize that focus mode had to be on to read the “Downloads” interface correctly, since I thought that it was like a web page.  Usually NVDA defaults to browse mode.

Thanks,

Re: NVDA and Edge Chromium

It is like a web page but it also is something like a dialog.  And even web pages at times don’t read properly unless browse mode is off.  Combo boxes, for one example, and dialogs at times don’t read correctly.

And at times, for technical reasons I don’t know, a control like a button won’t function correctly unless activated with browse mode off.

Following captions on youtube.

Ali Colak

Hello everyone,
Following a suggestion I have decided to ask this question seperately.
While NVDA is able to read the captions on some youtube videos, it
doesn't change as the captions change, it doesn't follow the streaming
of captions, such that I have to arrow up and down to find the new
captions. Is there a way to change the NVDA settings so that it
follows the stream of captions? Note, these are captions that NVDA can
read I am talking about, not the subtitles that need OCR through the
Lion addon.

Thanks a lot

If you mean to toggle between browse and focus modes then its NVDA + Spacebar

Re: faced 2 problems while using zoom with NVDA

Hello everybody

I don't think that we can change the option to enter slide shows or websites that are shared with share screen on zoom. when someone shares a screen it is like you are watching TV or other video content so you cannot access the shared screen

The only way to interact with someone else is screen is if the other side gives you remote control when sharing screen. in addition, in order to use the other one computer with screen reader they will have to install screen reader on their computer.

As far as the links on the chat panel - here's what I do with NVDA

·         I open the chat panel with Alt + h - which is the default keyboard shortcut inszoom

·         the cursor is located at the message area where you can type a message.

·         if you don't want to type a message you can press tab to move to the messages list.

·         keep pressing tab to move to the next message and  Shift + TAB  to go back to the previous message.

In the last version of zone that I have, moving between messages in the list message cannot be achieved with the up and down arrow keys

·         to open the link press enter when the URL receives focus.

Here's some additional follow-up to Sarah's suggestions.  Apologies for all of this detail.  I hope some of it may be helpful.

There's a "Save Chat" button, in the Chat window, under the "More Chat Options" button.  You can use this button to save the chat at any time, as many times as you like during a Zoom meeting.  NVDA does not announce anything when you press the "Save Chat" button, but if you tab backwards a few times, you'll land on a "Show in Folder" button, which will open a File Explorer window that has your saved chat text file.

It looks like this save chat function will save any updates to the same file, so you'll only have one saved chat file, for each meeting.  Even if the function to automatically save chat at the end of the meeting has been enabled, it looks like that also updates the same file.  So any time you open this file, it should contain all of the chat messages, as of the last time chat was saved in that meeting.

Note that in Zoom versions 4.5.0 or later, there is a setting under the "Meetings" tab, that would allow a host to "Prevent participants from saving chat".  This setting is different from, and independent of the "Auto saving chats" setting, which only saves chat at the end of the meeting.  Not surprisingly, if I start a Zoom meeting with the "Prevent participants from saving chat" setting enabled, I can't make it available during that meeting, even if I change the setting.

Thanks.

That's the problem I have with accessing things on Zoom, I can't seem to access anything until the chat is saved at the end of the meeting.
I can read messages, but I can't seem to copy them to the clipboard until the meeting is ended, when a text file pops up with the entire chat up to the point you copied.

PowerPoint and cursor routing

Sandra Pilz

Hi,

I am running the current version of NVDA and have an Office subscription. I also have a Mantis Q40. For me, cursor routing doesn't work when editing presentations. Is this a known problem or can I do something to make it work?

Thank you, I appreciate your help.

Re: NVDA and APA Style

Sandra Pilz

Hi,

I am not sure if I understand your question right. If you are asking what you could do to make sure your APA citations are formatted correctly, I would recommend that you use citation software.

I have started to use Zotero a few months ago and it makes things so much easier. Since APA is very widely used, probably the bibliography it creates will be fine, provided you enter your sources correctly in Zotero. There may be a bit of a learning curve, but I think its absolutely worth it.

the only thing I wished would be more accessible is copying and moving sources from one collection to another. You have to use drag and drop to do that. If you search the NVDA list archives, there was a discussion on Zotero where someone described which setting to change in Zotero so that the Woord plugin becomes accessible.

The whole point about portable programs is that you don’t install them and you can run them on removable devices like thumb ddrives. Just delete the folder containing the files.

It wont show up there as its not actually installed on the machine

To remove just delete the folder the portable copy was installed to and if you created any shortcuts you will have to delete them as well

I can only answer your question regarding Microsoft Word. What you are
looking to do is switch into browse mode, which you can do with NVDA +
Space. Use the same keystroke to switch back in to focus mode.

subtitles on youtube and navigation keys in word.

Ali Colak

Hello everyone,
I have two seperate questions on two differents.
First, though nvda seems to read some close captioning on youtube, it
doesn't update when the caption changes. I have to arrow up and down
to find the spot where it can read the captioning again. How can I
make sure that it reads the captions as they come in? Note, these are
the regular captions that NVDA can read, not the subtitling I have to
access through the lion app and OCR.

Second, their is i believe a keystroke that enables us to use
navigation keys in documents, such as those in word, such that when we
press in stead of entering h it it goes to the next heading. I have
both foregoten what it was called and the keystroke itself. If some
one could tell me please?

Thanks
Ali
