Which really does nothing as far as getting false positives to go away for you, later, and everyone else.  It works, but that's not the point.

I don't have MalwareBytes on this machine, and can't check their reporting mechanism at the moment.  That being said, if you report a false positive to the software maker whose stuff is being flagged, they are generally very motivated to get in touch with the producer of the scanner that's generating that false positive and getting that resolved.  Sadly, sometimes without ever responding to the reporter who told them they've got a false positive coming up.

I've reported multiple false positives over the years and they've often been resolved in less than 24 hours and have remained that way.  That's my goal, so that no one else has to get that same false positive and wonder if it might be real.

Hi Sandra,

It looks like we do have an issue for this: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/9101 although it doesn't look like anyone has looked into it recently.  If you can add any more info, please do comment on the issue to raise it again.

Re: Any NVDA command for announcing slide layout type in PowerPoint?

Quentin Christensen

There isn't an NVDA command for this, however you can find out with:

1) Press ALT+H to open the Home ribbon
2) Press L for layout.

The layout options open (so you can use the arrows to choose a new layout) and the current layout is the selection option which is read out.

To leave the current layout as-is, press alt to close the ribbon again.  Or use the arrows to change the layout to something else.  Exactly how this affects existing placeholders varies, but I did write a little about it in the Microsoft PowerPoint with NVDA module: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/microsoft-powerpoint-with-nvda-ebook/

Kind regards

Re: MalwareBytes Premium Reporting Possible False Positive With a File in the Acapela Colibri Voice Bundle

To be honest, I have excluded all blindness related programs from games to screen readers because of false positives like this.

I even went out of my way about 3 years back to get a duel drive laptop.

The second drive has all my portable games and audio as well as other data on it.

That drive is excluded from scanning by all antivirus and security apps.

There are many program files folders with games and blindness related software which are also excluded.

This is an utter shitty and crappy, non wize and unsecure solution but its either that or disable all antivirus and security software and pray to god that I don't get a virus.

Of any real importance is my downloads, and bar that I do clear my temperary files and othher junk files with ccleaner each session I do online to minimise things some what.

Even so, bar bgt it seems that a lot of accessibility software can have virus like activity.

After mozilla and their stance on firefoxx and the fact the accessibility features could be used for no good things with a solution to disable them if not in use, I switched to waterfox.

But while I like chrome it can have issues and I have heard those I may have to switch to firefox because waterfox is going nowhere fast, though I will be putting a separate topic in chat about this.

Re: How to use NVDA to navigate and use text boxes inserted in MS Word

Quentin Christensen

Oh that control+alt+5 works well.  So many workarounds for something which ideally would have worked in the first place :)

I'm guessing that you've worked out the answer to your previous question about filling in text boxes Rowen, but for anyone else wondering - once you navigate to a text box, eg control+alt+5 then tab to the one you want, press ENTER to go into it in edit mode.  You can then edit the text as you need.  You can select all the text in the text box with control+a.  Once done, press escape.

Kind regards

Re: nvda and adobe dc

Quentin Christensen

I found an issue on our tracker for this: https://github.com/nvaccess/nvda/issues/11568

Although while one user experienced actual problems using Adobe Reader 64-bit, others who reproduced it, advised that while it generated lots of errors in the log, it didn't impact use.  Maybe it's something with a specific build of Windows?

Quentin.

Just reverted back to 32 bit adobe reader and its all ok again.

Its a pitty we can't use 64 bit but then it probably doesn't matter.

The only reason I updated to 64 bit was because it existed.

I don't need 64 bit but it would be nice if someone found out why exactly it crashed.

The log I had mentioned virtual buffers and iaccessible2, it only crashed out when opening files and the program read ok otherwise.

This 32 bit version works fine without any issue so who knows.

It works with narator.

There is a log of errors etc this in itself is not a problem, I can
access adobe acrobat but I can't read any file with nvda unless I open
it with narator then close narator then open with nvda. there seem to be
a few accessibility issues once viewing documents appears though other
than that the program is easy enough to access.

Issue With NVDA and Settings Button in GMail Account

Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I have GMail set up to use with Thunderbird mail client locally, so I haven't done much on the GMail web interface in years.  I was trying to assist someone with changing their web interface settings.  When I clicked on the settings button in GMail's web interface, nothing happened. This is with NVDA latest stable build 2020.4 and Firefox latest version.  GMail is set to standard view.

Does anyone else experience this issue?

Not yet, but when the first beta of NVDA 2021.1 comes out, Add-on Updater itself will update, and this will likely be included then.

I was probably a little premature announcing this here, since most on this list don't run alphas so wouldn't have had a problem with the previous version of the add-on.

Re: Numpad Nav Mode add-on updated for 2021.1 compatibility!

Hi all,

Rest assured that add-on developers are working hard to prepare their add-ons for NVDA 2021.1, and Add-on Updater is no exception. I expect a flood of add-on updates will occur shortly after beta 1 is released. Due to changes in NvDA that will affect Add-on updater itself, I expect it will be one of the first add-ons to be updated to support the next NVDA release – I’ll provide more details once the next version of Add-on Updater is released, the version compatible with NVDA 2021.1.

Cheers,

Joseph

Yes.

My understanding is that 2020.4 will recognize anything compatible with a later version as compatible with it, but that when 2021.1 arrives it will not recognize as compatible anything not explicitly annotated as such.

My expectation is that we'll end up having a few burps because add-ons annotated as compatible up to 2020.4, but that should be entirely compatible with 2021.1, will be flagged because their manifests (the thing where compatibility with specific NVDA versions is designated by the authors and checked by NVDA itself) will not necessarily have been updated yet.

In the end, there's nothing any end user can do to fix this beyond reporting something being flagged as incompatible when 2021.1 is officially released, or better yet when its beta version(s) and release candidate(s) are released so that everything is cleaned up before the full release.

Numpad Nav Mode add-on updated for 2021.1 compatibility!

Luke Davis

Hi all

To anyone who has been, or wants to start, using the Numpad Nav Mode add-on: it has now been updated to verify compatibility with NVDA 2021.1. It therefore works with latest alphas, and will work with the upcoming beta.

Updated version available at:

https://github.com/opensourcesys/numpadNavMode/releases/download/1.4/numpadNavMode-1.4.nvda-addon

It will be updated on the NVDA add-ons site after beta is released.

If you are not familiar with this add-on, here is a brief description:

This add-on allows switching the numpad between NVDA navigation mode, and Windows navigation mode.
This can be especially useful for laptop users who prefer laptop mode, but who have a numpad and want to use it for arrow keys, page up/down, and home/end.
It may also be valuable for desktop users coming from JAWS, who prefer commands like NumpadInsert+Numpad2 for read to end.
And since the mode can be changed with a keypress (Alt+NVDA+NumpadPlus, by default), the numpad can easily be used for object navigation or review when desired.

Enjoy!

Luke
