NVDA chrashes with Dreamweaver CS6 and Acrobat Pro 2020 OCR

Iván Novegil

Hi all.

A Spanish-speaking user has asked us about the following two NVDA crashes:

1. When opening Dreamweaver, version CS6. NVDA directly crashes or hangs until it's restarted.

2. When Acrobat Pro 2020 finishes scanning a document, same, NVDA, or even Acrobat itself, crashes or hangs, seems that due to excessive resource use by Acrobat.

Do some of you experience one or both of this issues? I guess they can be reproduced with several NVDA versions including the latest stable, but don't have this information at this time.

Thanks!

Hi NVDA users,

Update: just submitted last NVDA pull request for now.

In order to spend more time on transitioning to graduate school, I'm retiring from NVDA code contributions, effective June 1, 2021. I'll still be around to coordinate preparing add-ons for NVDA 2021.1 stable release, and will provide leadership on add-ons community until then.

Thanks to everyone who sent encouragements, both on this thread and for the last nine years. I'm more satisfied to hear how NVDA has made a difference in a person's life, more than seeing people use what I have contributed: improved touchscreen support, Windows 10 support (search suggestions, emoji panel, clipboard history, supporting modern apps), playing sounds when suggestions appear, toggling NVDA start and exit sounds, and others I lost count. Through my add-ons, you have context-sensitive help on using controls, much better touchscreen usage experience, resource usage reporting, and the ability to keep up to date with add-ons. But these are nothing compared to contributing to getting NVDA to help you unlock your potential. I know that NVDA will make a huge difference in people's lives for years to come; the true power and market share of NVDA is not the download count but lives improved by it.

P.S. I will indeed post an update once Add-on Updater starts noticing new versions of my add-ons.

Farewell, NVDA Users community. long live NVDA, NV Access, NVDA community! Sincerely, Joseph

NVDA 2021.1 and community add-ons: status page is now available

Hello NVDA users,

Many of you are wondering about whether or not your favorite NVDA add-ons will be ready for NVDA 2021.1. To answer this question, the add-ons community has prepared a status page listing add-ons hosted on community add-ons website and their NVDA 2021.1 compatibility status:

Add-ons and backwards incompatible NVDA releases (nvda-project.org)

Note that things can change without notice, and the page does not include newly added add-ons; add-ons added to community add-ons website in recent days will be included in the status page soon. Also, I have asked the add-ons community to update this document from time to time whenever backwards incompatible NVDA version enters beta testing phase (I myself will contribute to this document if my add-ons do become compatible with future NVDA releases; I might not be able to update add-ons in a timely manner while taking graduate courses).

As always, feedback about add-ons should be sent to add-on authors.

Thanks.

And with that, fade to black.

P.S. I love you all. Stay safe and healthy.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: NVDA 2021.1 and Joseph Lee's add-ons: seven add-ons updated, important notices on some add-ons #addonrelease

Hi all,

For folks using Add-on Updater: Add-on Updater will now fetch just released add-ons compatible with NVDA 2021.1.

Enjoy.

P.S. Forgot to add to my last message: feel free to reach out (email, Twitter, Facebook, etc.) if you want to talk about anything (NVDA work, school, etc.).

Cheers,

Joseph

trying to activate a pulldown menu on an obscure program

Joseph Norton

Hi listers:

I use a program for DOS emulation to run some older software called “DOSBox-X” (not to be confused with DOSBOX).  It has pull down menus at the top of the window, which are, themselves, accessible.  NVDA will read them ok.  I can even find them using Screen Review mode.  However, when I try to use NVDA plus numpad enter to click on one of them, I usually get thrown to the desktop.  I also have tried NVDA plus numpad slash, to move the mouse pointer to the current navigator object, but, it still throws me to the desktop.

If anyone wants to look at this, you can download a build from this link.  Note you have to install some other components to get it to work.  Once it launches, you can press CTRL plus f9 to close the emulator.

https://github.com/joncampbell123/dosbox-x/releases/download/dosbox-x-v0.83.13/dosbox-x-windows-0.83.13-setup.exe

Thanks for any suggestions.

Version, Version, Version - I'm Begging You!! #adminnotice

Ladies & Gentlemen,

Not that it isn't always important to include version information in your queries, because it is, but it's even more critical than usual right now.

Please, I beg you, at the bare minimum include the NVDA version you're asking about.  With the 2021.1 transition period upon us it's more important than ever to identify whether the issue is occurring when you're using alpha, beta, or release candidates for that release or the production release 2020.4.  For folks using 2021.1, I'm always going to assume the most recently available build unless explicitly told otherwise.

Just the 11 characters, either NVDA 2020.4, or NVDA 2021.1 at the outset of a query would be most helpful. You can even drop the NVDA part if you wish, as all of us here know that 2021.1 and 2020.4 refer to NVDA itself.

And for those who feel as Sarah does, and after an NVDA GitHub Issue Link has been provided (Issue 4433), please take the time to comment on that issue.  The value in that is it can help to serve in priority setting in addressing issues.

If what's already in the issue conversation doesn't cover exactly what it is you're looking for, then be sure to describe exactly what it is you'd like in your comment.

This one's been out there and open since 2014 and never got much attention other than for a short period after being opened.
