Re: A few questions about NVDA, eSpeak NG, and languages (non-programer)
Hi Robert, You are looking for the RHVoice NVDA add-on, right? Try this page. https://github.com/RHVoice/RHVoice/blob/master/doc/en/Binaries.mdIt also has links to the English voices, which in my opinion are not as good as other languages . The male voice, Alan is best I think, although it is a Scottish, not US accent. We here at Louder Pages collaborate closely with RH Voice and would like to make an improved English voice. But, so many more deserving languages to cover! LOL - Mark

Hi,
Looking at the link mentioned below however could not find the RH
voices addons files for nvda, and for English voice. I appreciate
if you could share the direct link instead. Thanks.
Kind regards,

NVDA Groups for Speakers of Specific Languages
As has been mentioned recently, although the NVDA Group has no formal restrictions on the posting language, it is a de facto English language group. There are a number of NVDA-centric communities created by native speakers of a number of languages. I cannot say anything beyond that other than that some appear to already have what I'll call a "critical mass" of members and are fairly active, while some others are not. I have collected to those I could find on Groups.io, and that list follows. --------

Admin's Note: Re: [nvda] Updated Firefox to version 89, can no longer use w/NVDA
#adminnotice
Hello,
I am requesting that this topic come to a close immediately, and will be locking the thread. The reasons are as follows: - There have been over 70 messages to this thread, and very early on, it was established that the issues are not related to NVDA. This in itself makes this thread off-topic.
- This issue so far is only impacting two users so far as I can tell, and this could be for any number of reasons, also not related to NVDA.
- Discussing what we like and don't like about a program or application is off-topic and not related to NVDA unless we are discussing something NVDA-specific which impacts the use of an application.
- 70 messages on any thread seems excessive to me, and while there isn't a rule in place about the number of messages permitted in a thread, we aren't advancing any further at this point. A bug has been filed with Mozilla, the issue is not related to NVDA, end of story.

Quantum, and it reflects the way a lot of things look on
mobile devices – and as everything is going multiplatform,
this is just what we are seeing across the board nowadays.
Once you get the hang of it, it’s not too inconvenient. The
sections of various headings you see are controlled by a
list box, and you just pick the category in the list box you
want, and the headings with options will appear.
You can control updates. You may have to
turn browse mode off to see the part of the options or
settings dialog where you select the category you will
work with.
Previously, the update selection was
found in options. In a change in the current version,
there is no more options. Now, its settings. Its in
the tools folder still but the name was changed. Just
one more unnecessary change to momentarily confuse
people and require that all support documentation that
mentioned options be rewritten. Do program developers
ever consider what amount of useless and needless work
some of their completely unnecessary changes impose on
people?
I’m not singling out Firefox developers
but this is an example of how a change in one word can
cause a great deal of work.
There is no more updates section as a
separate section in settings. it is now in the
general settings, which is the one you work with by
default when you open settings. Tab and tab and tab
and you will eventually get to a series of radio
buttons for determining update behavior.

Re: Updated Firefox to version 89, can no longer use w/NVDA
Good Afternoon: If you go to settings in tools and tab through
you will find a button to have Firefox automatically update or you
can tab once more and you have a second option to set firefox let
you manually check for updates. When you said you could not
update I went into Firefox and was able to go right there. It has
been moved out of options and placed in settings. In going
through settings, it's just like options and settings was put in
it's place. I have never let firefox update automatically for
me.

I've tried both w/the NVDA beta as well as the stable
version, folks.
It's broken on my system, & that includes w/Narrator
& Jaws also.

Re: A few questions about NVDA, eSpeak NG, and languages (non-programer)
Absolutely will do Mark. Expect an email shortly. However, I'm still interested in what the NVDA team has to say on this regarding their use of eSpeak. No disrespect to your project, but eSpeak is still good, and I don't mind robotic voices, as many blind people will tell you. If a response from them is not forthcoming I may contact them directly.

Re: Firefox suddenly stopped reading pages.
Please reference bug #1714212 on bugzilla.org & report your configuration, etc. We're working w/James Teh right now to try to resolve this, but the problem is that it doesn't happen on all systems. I reported this yesterday.

I did try checking for updates though and there were none. Did a full scan with Windows Defender and turned up nothing.
If anybody has any ideas, I'd really appreciate them. I have no idea why this would happen all of a sudden with nothing having been updated or something obvious like that.

Re: Updated Firefox to version 89, can no longer use w/NVDA
Hi
Just had fire fox update to version 89 no problems and is a 64 bit version.
The only thing was at first it gave me options of which I said not now. I can not remember if I had a home page set which put me up near some shortcuts on the browser but then went in and set the home page and all is good.
Even without setting the home page if I typed in a web address in the location bar it loaded up the page.
It is not my default browser I usually use google or edge etc.

Re: Updated Firefox to version 89, can no longer use w/NVDA
Thats true.
In fact I'd go so far as to say, the older your box the easier it may be.
Older boxes don't rely on manufacturer drivers because they are to old.
If old enough they may not even rely on generic drivers.
They may rely on windows update drivers which while old and crappy still work.
Or they may not have any need for extras and work as is.
Where it can become an issues is with the newer systems that rely on as many avenues as they can to update.
This is good, you get the latest and greatest but you can also have issues.
Being the local admin here, I like to update before someone else does and see.
If it really screws up, I'll just reformat and move on.
I have backups and all data is on another drive so if it falls over, I won't lose much.
I have had 2 other systems here, both constantly used by their users.
And I will not be popular if documents and stuff my dad uses can't be used because of a broken install.
Saying that, the modern systems actually don't give much of an issue generally unless you are unlucky or microsoft gives you a semi cooked fruitcake which sadly happens a lot more often than is healthy but still we muddle through.
In this reguard amd because they do gaming do update their display constantly as well as other stuff so if you need the power and certainty and stability I'd go with those.
You can get instability but you know that those will be fixed within the next month.

Re: Updated Firefox to version 89, can no longer use w/NVDA
you got part of it right. In beta testing you look for constant
issues that come up. That means a bug. If it is only a problem on
a few machines. Then it is a problem with the configurations of
those machines and not the software.
Just like when NVDA was new. it had problems with amd chips and
not intell. The problem was with the chips configurations on how
they handled software not with NVDA.

Re: Updated Firefox to version 89, can no longer use w/NVDA

Chris Smart
I did notice something strange with JFW, and I only mention it here in case it has some bearing on the NVDA situation.
When I run Firefox 89, I have to ALT+Tab away and then back to it, or else Jaws doesn't read anything at all.

Everything seems to work fine even the site given for problem.
Used NVDA, JFW, and narrator with no problems.

press ctrl l & run about:config. Press the button to tell them you'll accept the risk. Search for the word accessibility. Having thus said, that does not appear to be the problem.
Jamie can't reproduce this on any system in his possession, but he & I will be working together tomorrow evening my time, Friday morning his, to see if we can't reach some sort of conclusions.

Interestingly, if I start firefox when choosing a profile every time, it works. If I select any profile & start it up w/o asking, it blows up. Just did the update with no problems. I did see a lot of new settings in setting that could cause issues with screen readers but no big ones.

Hello Doupi,
Our humans are just crazy!
You and I should set up a conversation via Dogsapp one of these days, to see what can be done about them...
Woof!

http://nvda.gaga.tw
