Looks like after all the hastles with orders that I only got 1 recipt and so that worked. I havn't run word in ages but I like to buy to support and get a manual which I can use myself. I did do wordprocessing and well that sort of thing. I really wouldn't mind a guide for spreadsheets like excell, outlook, powerpoint, and maybe libre and open office. I never completed my spreadsheeting course because the person I got to help was useless and basically couldn't find how to handle it with the keyboard they did it all for me with the mouse. As a result I passed the theory but have no practical experience at all.

Hi Cearbhall, Glad you got it working! Yes, the older way that operation worked did enable nifty things like in my example, although I think it also caused some confusion as well, so we'll see how this new way goes. In the meantime, I better update the material - and I'll keep the old activity on hand just in case we ever go back :) Oh, re where you end up after you copy text, if you are in an otherwise editable field, then the text is selected, as it would be if you had used the regular movement commands, so if you press say left arrow, you will end up at the start of the selection, and if you press right arrow, you will end up at the end of the selection.

Quentin,
Thanks that does explain what is happening! Hard to keep up with all the changes, isn’t it?
OK then, so, I need to press NVDA +F10 twice. This does copy the text. But it activates the caret. So, if I am right about this, will it be necessary to advise the user to press control+end to get back to the location for the pasting operation?
If so, that’s a pity as you were describing a very neat little operation in the older version.
I wish you every success with this tutorial and I would like to help in any way I can. Please let me know if anything else needs an independent review!!

Cearbhall,
Well picked up! Yes that behaviour of the review cursor has changed just this week in NVDA 2016.3, and as you've reminded me, we need to update that sample section of the Basic Training for NVDA module.
Pressing NVDA+f10 twice (quickly) should copy the selection to the clipboard. Depending on the type of object that has focus, selecting the text (the first press) may move the focus you are right, but it should copy if you press NVDA+f10 twice quickly - within say a second or less - similar to pressing NVDA+f12 twice quickly to get the date, or pressing any of the reading commands twice to spell something.
Kind regards
Quentin.

There's no real advantage, and, I came across it before had realised opera was just implementing chrome in a better interface than chrome itself offers...<smile>
Still plan to play around with it, since it might offer some additional interface customising, but, nothing major in terms of being specifically accessible, as far as I can tell thus far.

Re: Another possible browser alternative, vivaldi
Gene
I haven't used it enough to have an opinion about
adding it to the list in terms of accessibility. It appears to be more or
less accessible from the little I played with it. I may or may not be
curious enough to test it further. But my question is, what advantage does
the browser present? In my brief testing, I saw none. I read a
review in PC Magazine and the benefits appear to be those sighted people would
be interested in. I saw nothing that would improve useability for blind
users. We don't care and don't benefit from the kinds of visual
differences you can choose such as stacking tabs in a different way.
So, at present, my view is that even if the browser
is included in the list of accessible browsers, I see no advantage in using
it.

I don't know how people didn't seem to read the
exchange I had with Mike on this subject. It appears that no one is using
the method Mike uses, which works, and as far as I can see, the version of Drop
Box being used doesn't matter. I have what, as far as I know, is the most
recent version.
If Drop Box is running, close it so you are
starting from the same place as I did when I tried this.
Then run Drop Box in the usual way, by pressing
enter on the Drop Box icon on the desk top.
Once it is ready,
press enter on the icon again.
Drop Box will open and read a message that says to
log in, use control g.
Execute the command control g.
Your default browser will open on the Drop Box
login page.
You will be logged in in the Drop Box application
and you will remain logged in using the application even if you close and reopen
it.
If you alt tab around, you may see a window at some
point that is titled drop box error. Ignore it. You are not
following a supported procedure, but the error window has no effect on what you
are doing.
All your files will be indexed again but once the
indexing message disappears from the system tray information about Drop Box it
will be ready to use. It may take awhile for the indexing message to stop
being displayed and. You will see the usual up to date message after it
disappears. There will be a very brief time when you see some other
message about changing a certain number of files or something like that but it
doesn't matter. It will be replaced with the up to date message.

Re: Microsoft Word with NVDA by NV Access now available
Cearbhall O'Meadhra
Quentin,
I was trying out the free sample on the web page.
I am not fully familiar with the review cursor and so I tried to follow the sample exercise. as I am a bit confused about the copying stroke. The manual says insert+F9 to start the mark and then one keystroke of insert F10 to copy it. However, NVDA keyboard help says that NVDA F10 should be pressed twice to copy the sleection. I also found that after pressing insert F10 twice, the caret moved to the position of the word being copied and moved away from the last line position where it was expected to be.
I have repeated this several times with both a single insert+F10 and a double insert+F10 and I cannot get it to work. Any advice?
All the best,
