We're working on adding the neural tts voices to the program we use for flight simming. You can get an API key and it is something like 1mb per month for the neural tts voices, which given the amount of info we use is not going to matter, and we will have a fallback to sapi when internet falls over. Well I can't code but I am taking part in the discussion and implementation of the ideas.

Hi,

In theory, it would certainly be possible to use Microsoft Azure voices with an addon, however I'm afraid it doesn't make sense at all. There are several reasons for this:

1. these voices are not installable, but always run online. You would have to make sure you always have an internet connection.

2. let's assume that you have a permanent internet connection. Even then, depending on your internet connection, you would have a very high delay compared to the locally installed voices. Even if you had a very good internet connection, the response would most likely still not be high enough to work quickly and efficiently. Everything the voice is supposed to say is calculated in the cloud and then played back. These high quality voices that are processed in the cloud were not designed for such deployments.

3. You can't just buy the Azure voices and use them at will. In the Azure cloud, everything is charged per performance, compute cores, queries, word count, etc. So depending on how you work it could get pretty expensive.

I hope I was able to explain it in an understandable way. If something is still unclear, just ask again.

Best regards

Ali

There was a add on that come across the list that was updated to work with the latest beta it did install but have not had time to test it without another person. It was updated by another person on the list,

the drop box link to this add on is https://www.dropbox.com/s/mskfialqojj1abo/remote_2.3_Gen.nvda-addon?dl=1

Not sure how long it will be before there is a updated version on the nvda remote website so either use one that works with earlier version of nvda or take this one for a test drive.

the new voices for nvda

Bobby

Hay I was wondering why you got rid of the edward and klatt 6 voice?  I am very sad they are gone because they are the clearest voices I used in nvda.  I was wondering they will be back because they worked very well for me and they never broke up on me.  I was playing with the baita of nvda and was very upset to find all the new voices were gone.  Are they gone for good or will they come back again because I am very upset now.

Thank you very much for all you have done for NVDA. Without your add ons,

many other things I do every day are using your contributions. I'll miss
your contributions much, but you'll keep on helping me every day with what

improved touchscreen support, Windows 10 support (search suggestions, emoji

Re: Missing file help

Hi,

Ah, this is the 64-bit NVDA Controller library that is supposed to be used by third parties to communicate with NVDA about speech and braille output. I guess a third-party program such as TeamTalk might be complaining about this file.

Visual studio: Slowness while using with NVDA

Akash Kakkar

Hi all,
I'm using latest NVDA alpha along with latest Visual Studio 16.10
after the gap of many years.
I'm observing some slowness/lag while typing/cycling through
intellisense suggestions.
Is there any fix regarding it?
I'm aware that some performance improvements were made some time ago
in NVDA as far as Visual studio concerned, but here I don't feel any
improvements.
Any guidance please? I have to work on very important project.

Hi Anthony

I think NVDA announces “unknown” when it encounters a control or object it cannot interpret.  I hear it spoken twice when I first sign into Windows and occasionally when browsing the internet but if I can successfully use the software on my machine, I’m not bothered about the odd “unknown” being spoken every now and then.

A Gentle Reminder About Using Descriptive Topic Titles #adminnotice

Hello All,

As of late I've noticed a slide toward the use of generic topic titles that give the reader absolutely no idea what it's all about, which is what the topic title should do.  I am asking everyone to please take the following group rule very seriously.  In times of flux like we're in now, having topic titles that give a clear picture of what's being discussed is absolutely vital.

4.  Think very carefully about the title you are going to give any topic you post.  The topic is the first (and, sometimes, only) thing a member sees and that may be how they decide if they’re going to look further.   Generic titles, such as “Help Me!,” or, "Weird problem," are not helpful because they give no idea about what.  Compare that to something like, “NVDA not reading Excel cell contents,” or, “NVDA setting for pronouncing numbers,” where the exact issue where help is needed is front and center.   Even something like, “Need help with the following . . .,” lets the reader know that you are going to present a list of issues.
