NVDA not reading lines in a multiple column document

Pranav Lal

Hi all,

I had to work with a word document that was split into multiple columns. I
am not talking about tables here but newspaper columns.

NVDA went silent for some lines. Jaws worked just fine which is how I know
that the document had multiple columns.

This was on my work computer running windows 10 1809 and Microsoft word 365.

I have tested on my home machine that has windows 10 Version 21H1 (OS Build
19043.1052) running word 365
Specifically:
MicrosoftR Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (16.0.14204.20000) 64-bit

The text is being read but the columns are not being detected.

Is anyone able to duplicate this? I am using NVDA version 2020.4.
Pranav

Hi,
It works, something probably went wrong during the installation.
Try checking in %appdata%\nvda\addons and let them know.

Hi to every one,

Download: https://www.nvda.it/files/plugin/weather_plus8.0.nvda-addon
Note: this package contains incomplete translations, due to delays with the translation system also for the emergency that Weather_Plus 7.7 with Yahoo
Weather API is no longer functional.
Note2: Set the API response language from the add-on settings window, if your language is available.
This thing is experimental, it may be that your language is missing, I know for example the Croatian one is missing, but if it should be unsatisfactory, in the future I will replace it with an internal translatable list.
Feedback is welcome.
Thanks

Mine updated to version 8.0, for which I needed to add my city again, and it's working great!

Yahoo is no longer robust.

Thus, we're in a watch and wait state with the Weather Plus Addon.  I'd hope there will be an announcement when it does come "back online." But until then, it's in a twilight state until that alternate API for weather is selected and the code modified to support it.

It will not be resolved on Yahoo. If I recall correctly from the addons list, he is working on incorporating some other weather API, and intends to release a new version.

Please follow Rui's advice (which was, basically, don't uninstall; just wait for the new version).

One thing you need to start doing, and all members need to start doing, is to read through what has already been posted on a topic before adding to it.

Ten and a half hours ago, Rui Fontes already answered the precise question you've just asked, again, and in this very topic.  See message #85016.

I am at wit's end at this basic courtesy, and that's what it is, not routinely being followed.

Re: Problem with Weather Plus Addon

Ron,

This has already been discussed, today, on the topic I retitled, "Problem with Weather Plus Addon."

It's an issue with Yahoo, and it may or may not be resolved.

I ask you, and all members, to please review existing topics, all of them, that are active in the group before posting new ones on the same issue on the same day.  It's completely unnecessary, and it is up to the members to actually read through what has been offered, first.

Hi Group,

The wonderful add on from Adriano no longer works. I have over 100 cities set up: one as a permanent default and the others as temporary cities.  Something must have changed with Yahoo because in all 100 Plus cities, I get the error message: "the lo ID is not valid."

I haven't seen anything from Adriano on the NVDA official list for months now. I am wondering if this add on is being developed anymore.

Re: Reading Desktop Icons in List View

If you open Desktop in File Explorer you can set the view to whatever you wish.  The only difference between Desktop and all other folders is that it has one special presentation, which is on the desktop itself.  But you can view it in File Explorer (and I very often do) and I use details view.

Hello.
This may not be the most elegant way to read your Desktop icons in a list view, but I use the Run command, Windows R, and type Desktop.
All of the icons are there, not in a grid, but in a list view as you had requested.
Thanks.

Hi

What do you mean by read desk top icons? when you arrow around on the
desk top, running applications area or notification area nvda will speak
it out what it is focused on.

If you want to see how that icon etc is spelled you can use the 1 for
previous charactor, 2 for current charactor and 3 for next charactor on
the numeric keypad.

Pressing the number 5 on the numeric key pad will say the word that is
current.

Is this what you mean?

Hi David

I lost my copy of Office 2007 after a disk failed last year but I now use Libra Office as it can read and write in Office formats and it’s free.

Re: NVDA remote server question please

See these two messages on the archive as a possible starting point:  #74132 and #73869

I concur that heavy-duty discussion of setting up an NVDA Remote server is best not undertaken here on the main group.  It would be fine on the Chat Subgroup, though, if you want the whole thing "on the public record."  It also might be appropriate on either the NVDA Developers or NVDA Add-On Developers list, probably the latter more than the former.

Re: Problem with Weather Plus Addon

If the original poster wants to take this as an affront, so be it, but it's not meant that way.  Real world examples that serve as "what not to do" examples require comment.  This is one of those.

I keep asking, and the group rules ask, that descriptive (and by that we mean *specifically* descriptive) titles be given.  This topic was started out with the topic, "Addon Problem," but then in the message itself identifies the add-on as Weather Plus.

The specific add-on (or issue - this isn't about just topics on add-ons - it's about picking good topic titles) needs to be clearly identified in the topic title when the topic is started, not require it be edited in later by group administration.

Please, folks, give a title to your topics that clearly, very clearly, indicates what's about to be discussed or asked about in greater detail in the message itself.

None, really (which I realize is what you're saying, too).   A drive is a drive is a drive for file storage as far as Windows is concerned.  USB jump drives, SD Cards, external USB drives (whether of old HDD type or an SSD in an external enclosure), even a CD/DVD RW drive with rewritable media in it all are assigned a drive letter when connected to Windows and treated like any other drive is treated.

With this post, I am requesting that further discussion be moved to the Chat Subgroup if it is felt necessary.  I've allowed this topic to go on far, far longer than I should have as it has had virtually nothing whatsoever to do with NVDA for a very long time now.
