Re: Code factory Eloquence

I think I know the cause but I don’t know how it is solved.  I think that either the program isn’t communicating with the product manufacturer for recertification, as it does from time to time, or something is corrupted in the company records and the information being sent isn’t recognized.

We’ll see  how others have solved the problem.

I consider this to be a drawback in the product.  Why should it have to repeatedly be verified by sending information back to the manufacturer?  Screen-readers don’t do this, once they are activated, they stay activated.  If, for some unexpected reason, you are not online when activation is required, you will lose access to speech from the product.  I mean circumstances where you want to use the computer but you don’t have an Internet connection available.  I expect that normally, when you are once again online, activation automatically takes place.  But it should not be assumed that the user will always be on line when using the product.

Perhaps those who use the product should really start a campaign to let the manufacturer know that this is not something people are willing to accept any longer.

Hi.

Follow these steps:

1. Press NVDA+N, then H, then Q.

2. In the Web browser window that opens, press NVDA+Control+F.

3. Type "progress" and press Enter.

4. Press Down Arrow once to hear your answer.

the easiest way is to use the command NVDA u.  You will cycle through a number of choices.  Use whichever you want whenever you want.

Re: Phonetic Pronunciation for Vernacular Languages

Gene

I’m not sure what command you are using.  If you are using the default desktop keyboard layout, try, with the numlock off, pressing numpad 2 two times quickly when you are on a letter.  What happens?  Also, does vernacular languages mean you are trying this with different languages?

I don’t know if NVDA responds differently with different languages.

Hello,

It does not work with all add-ons disabled. The phonetic pronunciation of vernacular characters is possible only in Microsoft Word. I tried with disabling all add-ons as well as changing the synthesizers. I have used Code Factory Vocalizer Voices, espeak, Microsoft API Version 5 and Windows 1 Core Voices.

In-Process is out, as is an update to Basic Training

Quentin Christensen

Hi everyone,

This week's In-Process blog is out.  It features all the details on the newly released NVDA 2021.1 Beta 3, information about where add-ons are at for NVDA 2021.1 (it's good!), and updates to not one but two training modules - with a discount for Basic Training.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: password echo

If you're talking a password for something like logging into a Google account, or other web based account, there is an add-on:
Report Passwords
that allows those to be spoken.

You can tweak NVDA's own settings for Windows-based password field.  Search the User Manual (NVDA+N,H,U) for the specific NVDA setting.

Yes their is a WPA for Netflix. I use it all the time. I use it with Narrator however. NVDA seems to do OK reading the HTML headings etc. but to me it seems slow navagating the app.

If there is a app for windows 10 I have not used it.

Lately I use a google smart speaker with a chrome cast to watch netflix and another page that tells me all the shows that are audio described for me to browse through. Not sure for sub titles but from what I hear there is a lot out on there platform but may be not for some languages.

The following should help.

How to turn the closed captioning or subtitles on or off when viewing Netflix content.
1. Launch the Netflix app.
2. Select a TV show or movie.
3. Select Audio & Subtitles from the options panel.
4. Select your preferred audio or subtitle options.
5. Press Back to return to the options panel.
6. Select Play.

Hope it helps.

There is not.  This topic is now locked.

Whatever is being previewed on the 24th of June, whatever it might be called, is nothing more than what has been slated as the fall update to Windows 10, code named Sky Lake.

It's just the next in Windows As A Service releases. The world is not about to change.

Heads up for Windows 10 App Essentials development snapshot users: June 17th build to require absolute latest Windows Insider Preview and NVDA 2021.1 beta or later

Hi all,

The following notice is applicable if you are using Windows 10 App Essentials add-on development snapshots:

By now folks should have heard about Windows Sun Valley (supposedly “Windows 11”, according to sources and a leaked build), a project to bring user interface changes to make it more modern, according to Microsoft. Sun Valley will be an important part of an upcoming event scheduled for June 24, 2021, and Windows Insiders, tech press journalists, and developers will talk about a supposed new Windows version for days. Because “Windows 11” branding may not be the final name for this version of Windows, I’ll refer to this new Windows as “Sun Valley”.

It turns out there are changes that will affect NVDA users, according to tests done on the latest public build (build 21390, not the leaked build). For starters, the Sun Valley update will change how you interact with emoji panel and clipboard history. There may be others, subject to confirmation after June 24th. I am keeping a very close eye on impact of next week’s event for NVDA users, and I’m sure several NVDA contributors are also observing this series of events closely.

To give you a taste as to what to expect from Sun Valley, I’ll be releasing a development build of Windows 10 App Essentials on June 17, 2021. This add-on build will require absolutely latest Windows Insider Preview dev channel build – build 21390 - to install and function. Also, to really make sure only folks who are adventurous and would like to give early feedback can install this build, this development build will require NVDA 2021.1 beta or latest alpha build to work. In other words, only Windows Insiders who are also beta testing NVDA will get this build – others will be greeted to an error message during add-on installation, telling you that the add-on is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using (Add-on Updater), require Sun Valley (manual installation), or not compatible with the version of NVDA you’ve got (if using 2020.4 or earlier). For the next week or so, additional development builds will be released that will require latest Windows Insider Preview and latest NVDA beta/alpha releases, and sometime in July, I’ll let users of older Windows 10 and/or NVDA install development builds again.

As for add-on naming, Sun Valley is still based on Windows 10 internally, hence it will still be called Windows 10 App Essentials. If the supposed “Windows 11” branding is confirmed next week, I’ll think about renaming this add-on, with details to follow later.

If you have questions, comments or feedback about upcoming Windows 10 App Essentials Sun Valley dev builds, please contact me directly (not on the list please) via usual channels (email, Twitter, etc.).

Cheers,

Joseph
