Re: free video editing program which works with nvda

William

I have already given a suggestion in previous similar post.

Which is, I suggest using something like ffmpeg, a command line tools.

As the editing process are all done in command line, i.e. as long as thecommand line program is accessible, the editing processible is accessible.

Although, you may need to learn about how to write those ffmpeg codes.

There is evidently a way to code so the problem doesn’t occur and certain implementations do so.  But I think the important point you raised is ;pauses after periods.  Are you saying that you experienced pauses of longer than about a quarter second between sentences?

I just gave the addon a try and the time announcement problem is still there, especially when I set the time display to (as of the time I tried it) "It's 19:12".
In fact I just did further testing just now and it seems that Eloquence from Codefactory seems to pause everytime it encounters a colon, including for time announcements (Codefactory Vocalizer pauses upon encounter with a colon too, but not for time announcements).

Its called clock and calendar add-on.  You can read about it and get it here:

There is a development version you may have to get since I doubt the stable version works with the NVDA beta.
You’ll have to see if the development version does.

Re: Code factory Eloquence

I don’t recall having the time announcement issue you are discussing when using the demo.  I do recall that when punctuation was set to none, it would pause at the colon between the hour and minute.

Nor are pauses between sentences, which is to say after periods too long in my experience.  they are about a quarter of a second, as my rough guess when I used the demo.

There is an NVDA add-on that may correct the time announcement problem, whatever the cause.

Hmmm, I never experience this issue at all.
However one thing that I don't like about Codefactory's Eloquence is that pauses between sentenses can be kind of long, and it doesn't seem to announce the time properly, for example instead of saying 'six o-clock' for 6AM when I pressed NVDA+f12 it would say 'zero six zero zero' (there would always be a pause between the announcement of the hour and the minutes).
Maybe I may have misconfigured something, I'm not sure but last time I contacted Codefactory about it they said that it might be an Eloquence issue.

Re: Looking for accessible video recording software that supports screen recording

I also use Obs, and it is quite accessible, but more work needs to be done to make it more accessible, for example NVDA may not read everything when tabbing around.
Gamebar is good but only if you are going to record a single window. I've used it to record my games.

For the first issue I am not sure if you are not able to see any mail in the inbox or just the latest ones. If it's just the latest ones then it can very well be some account sync issue. Outlook does a lot of downloads when it is installed new, you might like to wait a bit and allow it to download the chunk before it settles.

For the second issue, you can change the sorting order of mails. By default it is by date, if you reach the inbox table you can shift tab to reach the sort and filter and select the relevant criteria.

While Outlook puts the number of unread messages in most folders visually in bold and in square brackets next to the name, and NVDA reads this number out, in the drafts folder, the number (not in bold) is the total number of items in the folder - I think it does the same for Outbox from memory.  I guess the idea is that the drafts folder is not somewhere you are expected to use to store messages (sorry 400-odd messages in my drafts folder!).  So it warns you of the total number of messages in there, just as the Inbox tells you the number of unread messages - with the expectation in both cases being those are messages you need to action, finish or otherwise deal with.

I think I know the cause but I don’t know how it is solved.  I think that either the program isn’t communicating with the product manufacturer for recertification, as it does from time to time, or something is corrupted in the company records and the information being sent isn’t recognized.

We’ll see  how others have solved the problem.

I consider this to be a drawback in the product.  Why should it have to repeatedly be verified by sending information back to the manufacturer?  Screen-readers don’t do this, once they are activated, they stay activated.  If, for some unexpected reason, you are not online when activation is required, you will lose access to speech from the product.  I mean circumstances where you want to use the computer but you don’t have an Internet connection available.  I expect that normally, when you are once again online, activation automatically takes place.  But it should not be assumed that the user will always be on line when using the product.

Perhaps those who use the product should really start a campaign to let the manufacturer know that this is not something people are willing to accept any longer.

What would cause the "please register this product) to pop up over night? There has been no major change in the system. It was running just fine at 2am this morning.

Hi Sue,

The only legal Eloquence add-on for NVDA is the one you can purchase from Code Factory: https://codefactoryglobal.com/app-store/voices-for-nvda/

As per the message Brian posted to the list earlier, there is an update for the Code Factory add-on being worked on for NVDA 2021.1.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hello. I am using the IBM TTS eloquence driver add on in NVDA 2020.4
think the add on is version IBMTTS-19.10B2.nvda-addon. Will that work in
the 2021 version when it is out? If anything where can you get the
latest driver for this addon? I like it a lot.

Re: NVDA 2021.1 Beta 3 now available

Hi Naveen,

Re the "Close" button on the speech viewer, what is meant is that there is a close "X" button in the title bar of that window - so it can be closed with alt+f4 as you found.  There isn't a button control you can tab to.

Re not reading the unread message count in Outlook correctly, can you give me a bit more information please?  What IS it reading?

I just tried using the following, and it is correctly reading the unread message count here:

NVDA 2021.1beta3

Windows 10 (64-bit) Version: 2009, Build: 19043

Office 365 (64-bit) Version: 16.0.14026.20228

Both in the left hand tree view pane and in the control+y window.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi Quentin,

I downloaded and checked this version. One issue I found in MS outlook 2019. Total number of messages NVDA is saying wrong. So, I checked in other folders such as Drafts, sent, RSS etc. I found the same issue. Kindly check it once. Also I have read in the What’s new, speech viewer has close button. But, when I use tab in the speech viewer, I am not getting the close button. But, I am able to close it by pressing Alt + F4.

Regards,

Naveen M

Re: Phonetic Pronunciation for Vernacular Languages

Ben J. Bloomgren

Sanjog,

NVDA 2021 doesn't report those phonetics either. I think that it has to do with the fact that non-Latin scripts often don't assign phonetics to each letter or syllable of their script.

Hello,

I am using NVDA 2020.4 and Windows 10 Home. Few days back, there was a discussion on phonetic description of a character and how NVDA can announce the character and it’s phonetic pronunciation. I was using the shortcut NVDA + . (fullstop) twice to hear the phonetic pronunciation. The shortcut and the “Enhanced Phonetic Reading” add-on is working fine everywhere when it comes to English.

However, NVDA fails to report the phonetic pronunciation/description of a letter typed in Hindi or Marathi except when typed in Microsoft Word. I am using Office 365. When I write anything in Notepad for example, NVDA does not report the phonetic pronunciation. It used to report in the older versions like 2020.1. What could be the reason? Is there anything I can do that will solve this problem?

Sanjog Kumawat
