Re: NVDA crashes

The only issue I continue to have with NVDA is the loss of the normal hot keys for NVDA. All the hot keys stop working and I have found the only way to get them working again is to restart NVDA. In this case I can not close NVDA before I do this as the insert q key doesn't work.

There are logs or information Windows keeps about crashes. I’m not
sure how you find it. But if some of the information isn’t too technical,
you can tell what program is crashing. At times, a program can crash in
such a way that it causes NVDA to stop speaking even if you try to move outside
of the program window. I don’t know why.

I’m thinking that Brian mentioned on this topic a few days ago; that he’d contacted Code Factory, and they responded that the updated driver is in the works.

Hello Jeff,

Are you using the standard arrow keys when you encounter these messages? This sounds like there might be a dialog on top of your Word document that NVDA is reading, but that should not occur unless you have screen review cursors working. Essentially, when using Sharepoint to save Word documents Word will push changes to the Sharepoint server so that anybody else can collaborate / edit the same time and know what you are changing almost instantaneously. If you are working on files without anybody else, you should be able to turn off this auto-save functionality, though that won't help with why NVDA is speaking these status messages. You also might want to try going into the account area of Word, I believe it is under file info in the ribbons, and make sure you are logged into the Sharepoint account. Best Wishes! Jonathan Cohn

There is a Microsoft support article on using Teams with a screen reader. While it is not NVDA specific, it will still give you a good understanding of how Teams is supposed to be navigated with it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-a-screen-reader-to-explore-and-navigate-microsoft-teams-47614fb0-a583-49f6-84da-6872223e74a0 Best, Felix Am Sa., 26. Hi,

in the context of a clean install, it won't just start the installation after downloading. Downloading is performed with the Media Creation Tool, which is the app Microsoft provides for creating your installation media, which would usually be a flash drive. When that has concluded, you can reboot from that flash drive to actually install Windows, in the most extreme case repartitioning and reformatting your hard drive beforehand, which is the way to delete absolutely everything on the machine and get a super clean install if that's indeed what you want. Rebooting from your flash drive may be tricky and may require sighted help depending on your UEFI. Once booted, if the installer detects your sound card, it will give you an audible welcome message as far as I remember. You may then press ctrl+Windows+enter to start Narrator. If you don't hear anything, your sound hardware might not have been detected. A solution is to plug in a USB headset then try to start Narrator. Note that it has to be a USB one as the installer comes with generic drivers for that. For me this worked in three out of three cases. Best, Felix Am Sa., 26. NVDA crashes
Hi good people:
Is there anything one can do to prevent NVDA from crashing on websites. Many times I open a website, and when I am working on the site, NVDA suddenly crashes. Some times I go back to the desktop to turn it on again and it starts working. Sometimes it doesn't. When I wait for some time, and I use the alttab keys to go back and forth, I then hear thae name of the website anounced and I hear not responding. Sometimes when on the internet, NVDA crashes, and the computer crashes all together, and continues running. it becomes impossible for me to shut it down normally. I have to stop it from running, using the power button. To restart it, I have to get sighted assistance, because it will just not start with any sound. And the sighted helper has to use the mouse to start it. I hope my issue is not too long, and it is well understood. Has anyone had this problem at any time, how did you go about resolving it. I've been having this problem for some time now. I do the "run com registration" under the tools menu when I have problems with NVDA not responding or when icon or unknown is heard, but this does not fix issues. I use a windows7 32bit computer. Thanks and cheers. Ibrahim.

Hi, If Narator or NVDA talk while reinstalling windows ten. I think you should have a sighted person near you if it does stop talking. Have a sighted person near by just to be safe.

nvda and braille displays
dennis huckle <denniswhuckle@...>
Hello all, I have noticed when I use my focus 14 braille with nvda, on sign in the braille display isn’t active until I have actually signed in using a qwerty keyboard. I selected the Bluetooth port for this display in braille settings and saved the settings to work on sign in. I prefer Bluetooth as I need the usb port for a usb disk drive. Any thoughts welcome. Kind regards, Dennis huckle.

Re: NVDA lags while working with MS Word using unicode input for local languages
By the way, for anyone who wants a tutorial on creating an issue in GitHub for NVDA, along with an MS-Word fillable form that you can then unprotect and copy and paste into the GitHub report so that you know you can't accidentally mess up the formatting they use to parse the report (and, boy, did I learn about that the hard way when I decided to do what I thought was some "tidying up" once when I created a trouble report).

You have described the issue pretty well here, and if you provide this information it should be a good start. Report things like a common current Windows version, whether you've run without add-ons and get the same results, and whether you're able to downgrade to (or use a portable copy of) NVDA 2020.2 or earlier and get the corrected results again. You can also search there for other issues similar to this, although personally I don't remember hearing of one. Luke
