A note, there are a lot of updated voices, so you will have to uninstall then reinstall all the voices that have updates after updating your eloquence and vocaliser sapi package. Also please note that a lot of voices will become uninstalled after the updates but their names will remain in the registry. To fix it appears all you need to do is uninstall all the voices that have updates, and reinstall all voices. I wish there was some way to remove all the broken voices or to update all the voices but oh well, its taken me an hour and the voices are installed. Several new voices as well as ml varients so maybe ml means mobile they don't sound much different. Its good to see a few more voices especially another one for australia. Hi, As we appear to have the green light of this not being off topic. Here is a rough outline of how you can get windows 10 insiders build working on an M1 under parallels. You will need sighted assistance for this bit as parallels does not work with VO, but follow this guide to get up and running: https://9to5mac.com/2020/12/22/run-windows-10-arm-m1-mac-apple-silicon-x64-x86-no-boot-camp-video/ Once running use narrator to download the latest version of NVDA. This will give you a basic working install. THings that will be missing: 1. The NVDA key as VO will grab it - i personally re-map the key above tab to insert. I do this under MacOS using: https://ke-complex-modifications.pqrs.org 2. The other issue you may have is control+alt keyboard shortcuts not working. These will work under some apps for example, Microsoft Word and some Windows keyboard shortcuts. If this is enough for you then ignore this bit. If its not… Download - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/906c31e4-d5ea-7988-cb39-7b688880d7cb You will now need to create your own custom keyboard layout. You will need to remove all the alt-gr and control-alt mappings to get all your control-alt shortcuts working. Then once you have done this you build that version of the keyboard and select it. It builds it as an .exe and should then show up as a keyboard option once installed. Note you may need to remove the other keyboards at this point to get all shortcuts working. You can follow this guide: https://superuser.com/questions/592970/can-i-make-ctrlalt-not-act-like-altgr-on-windows Ignore all the stuff about auto hotkey you are after the remapping with the keyboard layout creator. I do have the keyboard layout as the .exe for a MBA with a US layout. If you require that instead of making it yourself let me know and i can send it through. As a prior comment said it is these keymappings that take the real effort. But once that is done you have the keyboard layout forever. With Windows 11 just around the corner and it having ARM support this guide to get it working should hopefully, work on that too and be super useful for MacOS users.

About Thunderbird extension Quick Folder Key Navigation
Tony Malykh
Hi all,
There have been a number of threads recently regarding problems with Quick Folder Key Navigation extension for Thunderbird. I just ran into the problem on a brand new laptop, when this extension doesn't work at all without producing any error messages, and I spent some time investigating the cause, so I just wanted to let people know about what I found just in case anyone else runs into this problem again. It turns out that McAfee antivirus that was preinstalled on my laptop believes that this extension is a virus. Adding insult to injury this antivirus appears to be completely inaccessible with NVDA, so even though it shows an alert window, there is no way of knowing about that. As a result, the extension appears to be silently not working. In order to fix this, you would need to uninstall McAfee antivirus (sighted help required) and reinstall the extension. This will also switch your computer to Windows Defender antivirus, which doesn't seem to have a false positive on this extension. Further diagnosis of any problems with this extension can be performed by checking any errors in Thunderbird error console (Menu>Tools>Developer Tools>Error Console). In my case I had the following error message on startup: Error while loading'jar:file:///C:/Users/tony/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/6tp5u0gh.default-release/extensions/keynav@...!/manifest.json' (NS_ERROR_FILE_CORRUPTED) Extension.jsm:570 This error is happening apparently because McAfee antivirus replaces extension file keynav@... with an empty file, and Thunderbird is not smart enough to at least alert user of such error. The key mappings is the issue. You have to write your own keyboard layout and then compile it for the architecture. I have it for the MacBook Air keyboard layout. Happy to share but as in previous post trying not to go to far off topic. I just wanted to point out that it does work.

Folks,
So for a non-Intel x86 based M1 ARM instruction set Apple desktop or laptop, this currently will require Parallels and a not quite legal copy of the ARM 64 flavor of Windows 10 preview to run as a guest OS. There will be no "Bootcamp" mode to support ARM 64 Windows running natively--so it has to be a hosted virtual machine. For now options to Paralles do not exist, VM Ware's Fusion is not going to support the ARM 64 flavor of Windows -- until Microsoft clarifies the licensing situation. But, for a hosted ARM 64 flavor of Windows there is no reason to expect that NVDA would not function. But Key mappings will be a challenge -- the mix of native macOS shortcuts & accelerators, nsAccessibility, and those shortcuts/accellerator allocated to the guest os, and finally any NVDA specific mappings. Quite a bit to sort through. Your milage may vary (YMMV) with your patience, good luck! Stuart

I agree with Gene 100% the only dectalk version that is available is a hardware based in a usb versio, and its not cheap and because I never heard it I don’t know about its speech quality compared with the dectalk of the venerable window-eyes.

As far as I know, there is no legal Dectalk add-on at least not one that sounds at all like what would be expected. I don’t know if it is possible to purchase Dectalk as a stand alone synthesizer, such as a SAPI 5 synthesizer, but I’ve never heard of that either.
You may be able to get more information about the legal ability to purchase Dectalk with a search but I’ve been on this list since the rather early days of NVDA, and I think there would have been information on the list before this if there were a legal add-on, and a legal way to ;purchase Dectalk, at least at anything like a reasonable price, given the interest in Dectalk.
Years ago, someone who worked with Dectalk provided a legal version of Dectalk but it was evidently very old and it sounded very different than the Dectalk people expect.

I would like a decTalk addon that works with NVDA2021.1 as well, but I prefer decTalk 4.41 through 4.6.

Apologies if you read it as snarky. I was suggesting they reach out to me o group as i did not see it as on topic. Aas it is certainly not a setup that i would assume is supported or indeed needs time dedicated to it right now. So as in my previous post, if people are interested i would be happy to go off group and assist anyone getting it up and running.
