Re: has NVDA remote addon been updated

Thanks for the news, I just got the new version of remote installed and now it is shown as compatible.

Re: more about disabled addons

Why can’t you go back to an earlier version or run an earlier version as a portable program?

With all the people working on add-ons, you can’t assume or expect that add-ons will be ready in general.

Hi list had a tough choice to make do I wait or install the update now.  Well not knowing how long to wait I installed now.  So basicly skype station playlist, remote teamtalk, and winamp don’t work so since it could me weeks or months before these are updated can anyone tell me what will happen or maybe not happen tomorrow night when I try to do a radio show. What will and won’t work.  Using winamp is out of course so what will happen with station playlist will I have to guess when a song ends will I read anything.  When will these extentions be ready.  I can’t believe you aren’t ready for an update.  Shouldn’t you update addons before NVDA update is ready should you be ready?  Very frustrating.

can't update

David Mehler

Hello,

Running in to an addons issue that I am unable to surpass. Some addons
I'm using are incompatible with 2021.1. Specifically remote support,
Nuance Vocalizer 5.5, (backup of NV Speech Synth which is also
incompatible), and the IBM TTS speech driver. Any information on these
addons appreciated.
Thanks.
Dave.

Re: RH Voice?

Gene

No.  The subject line refers to the RH voice.  It will be interesting to find out what the cause of the problem is, if we do.  Usually, incompatible add-ons won’t install.  But in this case, the add-on is evidently installed but NVDA can’t load the synthesizer.

Re: DECtalk Add-on for NVDA

I can’t believe dectalk synth still exists.  I used to have a dectalk express. Like I said mine died 11 or 12 years ago.  I haven’t looked for the addon since then.  I haven’t looked back at it since.  I’m glad it’s still around for those who still use it and like me. Got spoiled and can’t give it up.  It took me a long time to not want it anymore.  For those who use Dectalk all the world to you.  Since I haven’t used it I don’t want it back.

Yes, so do I.  Much much more!  For one thing, eloquence doesn’t know how to pitch its voice.  If you have a long sentence without commas or other punctuation, it will wind down, as if it has a dead battery.  Then, when it encounters the next mark, it sort of takes a breath, and the voice goes back up to the top.  That is only one thing I don’t like about eloquence.  Pam.

Re: Nvda addons

David Griffith

I hesitate to provide steps by steps as I don’t really know  anything  about add-on construction. But I will tell you what I did at very much your own risk.

What I did was  first of all find the NVDA add-ons directory – which was in drive C users  your user name then app data then roaming NVDA and then finally add-ons directory.

You may need to change File Explorer settings to show hidden folders for the app data folder to be revealed.

I then copied the unamended Mp3DirectCut add-on directory elsewhere as a safe backup if anything went drastically wrong. In that case I would have simply copied it back to return things to the previous state.

I then opened the Mp3DirectCut add-on directory and  found the manifest.ini file there.

I opened this in notepad.

There are 2 places where there are references to NVDA version numbers.

The first refers to minimum version number

The second is for last tested versions

In both lines I replaced the existing NVDA version numbers to

2021.1.

I saved the file and restarted NVDA.

The Mp3DirectCut add-on was now no longer listed as incompatible in Add-ons manager, it was now enabled and in testing the add-on appeared to be working entirely as expected.

I am not at all sure  this will work every time but remember to keep a secure original copy to re-copy back if you get odd results so you can return to the previous configuration.

Speaking of addons, is there some easier process for review or something? Because on the off chance that it worked, I changed minimum and last tested versions to 2021.1 for the Extended Winamp addon, copied the whole thing into my addons folder, and it works. So 2021.1 didn't break any compatibility, it just needs two changes in manifest.ini and it works. It took me less than a minute. There's no reason to have to wait for the original developer to do that kind of thing, is there?

Re: Can I make a portable

Gene

But select a folder that has no other files in it.  Often such features create their own folder in the folder you choose but NVDa doesn’t.  It should.  If someone expects this behavior and simply selects a folder with other files in it, NVDA files will be mixed in with whatever other files are in the folder.

Sure you can. Just choose create portable copy and type in the path
where you want it made.  You'll need to go to that folder, choose the
nvda.exe and then exit your currentinstalled version and then just hit
enter on the .exe file and your portable copy will be running. I did
this with the RC 2 version so I could test out add-ons.

Hi Joseph,

OK, I downloaded your add-ons--which or some reason i thought I had properly updated. However some others have not been updated. They are:
an extended add module for Winamp music player
clock
day of the week
Mozilla apps enhancement
systray list
I checked the website: https://addons.nvda-project.org and none of these have yet been made compatible.

Hi,

Can you go through the list of add-ons you've got and tell me the ersions of Add-on Updater and Windows App Essentials you are using? If you've got:

  • Add-on Updater 21.05.1 or earlier
  • Windows 10 App Essentials earlier than 21.06

You must install these, restart NVDA right away, and then check for NVDA updates.

Cheers,

Joseph
