Have you tried restarting the PC.  If that doesn't work, try restarting NVDA with add-ons disabled and see if that makes a difference.  Next, try changing the synthesizer.  Also, which synthesizer are you using now?

Kind regards

Re: Compatibility updates to the "Golden Cursor" add-on will not be provided

Hello everyone,

Because Golden Cursor is an important add-on for people, I'm thinking about intervening - that is, willing to edit Golden Cursor if no-one steps up. For now editing the manifest will work, but there are changes to be made inside the add-on source code itself that will let the add-on take advantage of changes introduced in really modern NVDA releases (part of this work involves linting the add-on source code to make it readable).

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Farhan,

Have you rebooted the PC after updating NVDA?  I can read your message in Chrome Version 91.0.4472.124 (Official Build) (64-bit) using NVDA 2021.1 by word without problem.

If you have rebooted and it is still doing it, try NVDA+Q then down arrow to "Restart with add-ons disabled" and press ENTER.  If that fixes it, what add-ons do you have?  It may be that one of them is playing up.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: ui automation

Quentin Christensen

Good question!

Basically UI Automation, or UIA, is one way NVDA uses to get information from programs, Previously this has been an option available for Microsoft Word documents (this also includes email message bodies in Outlook because of the way Outlook presents messages).  In NVDA 2021.1 we've added the ability to use UI Automation to access Excel as well.

In some cases, using UIA can give more information about a document than IA2 or other methods NVDA uses internally to find out about documents, the formatting, where the caret is, etc.  In other cases, there may not be as much information available.  Choosing a method to use is a little like picking whether to use Microsoft Word or LibreOffice Writer - you have to use all the features of one - you can't use the best bits of both.

NVDA does not use UIA for Word or Excel by default, but the options are available in NVDA's advanced settings.  In some cases it can be worth trying them if something is not working in Word (or Excel), but if you are unsure, ask here or ask us at info@...

Kind regards

Quentin.

I was all set to install the latest version of NVDA, but I was given a warning that all but 2 of my add ons are incompatible. These incompatible add ons include Add On updater the one I just installed 2 days ago and Windows app essentials which I updated a week or so ago. Is this information correct or did a newer group of updates for these add ons occur in the past day or so?

Out of curiosity is there any reason why the features in the clip speak addon was not made part of the foundation in NVDA? I would think that knowing that you have actually triggored a command as basic as copy, paste, cut...would be important to hear.

Hi Jarek,

There is a page on the add-ons site listing the status of various add-ons for NVDA 2021.1: https://addons.nvda-project.org/addons/nvdacompat.en.html

I can see ClipSpeak listed there as not yet compatible - it might be worth double checking with the developer of that add-on as to where it is at.  I'm not sure about total commander.

Note that as new versions of add-ons are released, you will need to find them and download them manually - that process is not automated, although there is an "add-on updater" add-on which does do this, and which you can also find on the add-ons site: https://addons.nvda-project.org/index.en.html

Kind regards

Quentin.

Re: Training Materials

Hi Bob,

I'm the one you need to help with this :)

We've just recently updated the Basic Training to ensure it is up to date.  We considered offering a discount to those who did purchase the original version back in 2016 / 2017, and in the end we decided to offer a straight 50% discount to everyone, and it's still on sale in our shop: https://www.nvaccess.org/product/basic-training-for-nvda-ebook/

In uploading the new version, I made one small error during the process, which broke the download for some users who had previously purchased earlier versions of the material.  I do apologise for that.

I've just emailed you with your version of Basic Training for NVDA.  If you are interested in the newer edition, we have it on sale as noted, at the previous link.

The zip file includes the module in as a Microsoft Word .docx document, as a .html web page, as an .ePub eBook, and as a Kindle .kfx book.  If you've got a Kindle device (or use the Kindle app for PC or on your phone), you should be able to download that version and open it in that.

Kind regards, and apologies for the inconvenience.

Quentin.

I had downloaded all of the manuals to my old phone. I ended up having to sell the phone because of financial issues. On the shop website, I’m given the option to download the books for Microsoft word in for Microsoft XL, but not for the basic training manual.

I was thinking about just re-investing in the basic training manual, but through the Kindle app this time…

I have two questions pertaining to this:
1) Are the manual still relevant and updated considering that the original publication date was in 2016?
2) Why is the download link not available to re-download the NVDA basic training manual or is that just a one time download?

Thank you so much for any and all help concerning this.

Clip speak

Hello guys. I have a question. What's the status on the Clip speak add on
working with NVDA 2021? I used Clip speak quite a bit as I like to know when
a text is cut, copied, and pasted to and from the clipboard. I also train on
NVDA with clients and as part of the installation I add the Clip speak
add-on into NVDA so that my clients know when they are copying text to the
clipboard. I have emailed, or have attempted to email Damien but the email
comes back as undeliverable

Oh yes they were. That’s why  Iam glad my dectalk express bit the dust. It was driven by a serial port. These newer computers do not have support for those kinds of things. That’s why I’m truly glad my dectalk express died. For that reason I do not want to go back to it as much as I liked it.

Re: more about disabled addons

Andre Fisher

Hi.

Note that NV Access neither packages nor maintains about 95% of the official add-ons. The few add-ons that they have actually authored (OCR and NV Speech Player) are free for the community to take over.

It's a common misconception that needs to be addressed. These add-ons aren't like Window Eyes apps, they are made, for the most part, solely by the community. Not even NVDA Remote is made by them, despite NV Access people in the past admitting to using it.

Contact the developers and see how best they can update the add-ons.

all this compatability has reminded me I need to like update my addon backups.

I havn't because I haven't needed to, after all if they load I just need to update these from the well system.

So as long as they are updated by addon updater I can like just leave it alone and they just do.

Now obviously I have done that for like 2 years so what I need to do is actually go through, and get the latest coppies to put on my backup drive else things just won't load so at some point today I will go do that.
