Hello, I wonder if anyone else is having issues with firefox and nvda?

I can't get it to work anymore using the newest versions.

I downloaded NVDAExtensionGlobalPlugin-9.7.nvda-addon

NVDA reported that it was not compatible.

I did get the updated version of clip speak, and it is working now with 2021.1

Global Commands Extension was posted a couple of times earlier.

Firstly under this subject  line via a DropBox link from another poster.

I then posted the official download link again under a more relevant subject line. The mod apparently  converted my text URL into a correct link.

Did you get this add-on via either route?

I have been pointed to this IBM site (obviously official, and if you paste it into most browsers it will redirect since FTP support has been deprecated):  ftp.software.ibm.com 

I have no idea of exactly where to look, but have been told that the TTS DLLs (or I'd presume we're talking DLLs) are there for download and that licensing information is vague, at best.  There is a ton of stuff on that site, so I have no way of determining where, specifically, to drill down into.

This is a completely open FTP server, as in it uses old style FTP and there is no login requirement.  That's about as open a door as one can get.

I thought since edge is based on chromium now as well that it would work.

Edge works with NVDA, but what version of Edge do you use and what is
your problem?

I think people are too casual about disabling security utilities if they cause a small amount of inconvenience.  The whole point of UAC is that it makes it less likely that software will be installed on your machine even if you are careful.  You don’t necessarily have the ability to refuse unwanted software, such as malware.  Sites may have hacked third party advertising which may try to install it without user notice or intervention.  Is avoiding the slight inconvenience of having to use alt y when UAC comes up worth the much worse problems malware can cause?  Even if you have to alt tab to the window first, is avoiding that annoyance worth dealing with malware on your machine?

 

I’ve seen it claimed that UAC is easily evaded by malware designers.  That may be.  I’ve seen little discussion of that.  But even if it only prevents thirty or forty percent of installations, I’d gladdly have the small inconveniences it causes.

The moment I found the security prompt and confirmed I wanted to go ahead with the installation, it completed within 30 seconds, as it usually does!

Just a thought :)
