Re: firefox and the latest nvda not working?

I am using the 32 bit version.

The only issue I have is that in some pages like windows update history buttons don't always execute, and some links on some websites will double speak and will not press, but these are in games and I have to go back and forth with the arrows and tab to execute them.

However while its a bit annoying I can still brouse well enough so its ok.

Hi Brian, the downloads are located in /software/websphere/voicetoolkit/InstallShield/VT6.0TP/Languages/TTS/win/. The ttsdata.jar files are just zip files with renamed extensions, and they contain standard InstallShield installers that install an unrestricted copy of ViaVoice TTS 6.7.3.2 that anything complying with IBM's publicly documented API can use. They also exist, although with fewer languages, in /sns/asi.

I have no idea of exactly where to look, but have been told that the TTS DLLs (or I'd presume we're talking DLLs) are there for download and that licensing information is vague, at best.  There is a ton of stuff on that site, so I have no way of determining where, specifically, to drill down into.

This is a completely open FTP server, as in it uses old style FTP and there is no login requirement.  That's about as open a door as one can get.

Well, I, for one, am not going to prevent people from sharing location information about software any company keeps on a fully open FTP server.  There's nothing that can be argued about the legality of sharing that information.

So if you know where it is, then state that.

I’ve seen it claimed that UAC is easily evaded by malware designers.  That may be.  I’ve seen little discussion of that.  But even if it only prevents thirty or forty percent of installations, I’d gladdly have the small inconveniences it causes.

Actually I was surprised by the three hour wait - I thought that dialog timed out after about 20 seconds and automatically failed if you didn't acknowledge it.

This is a suggestion relating to the NVDA updater, rather than NVDA itself, and it's a question really for the programmers behind that installer.

I started updating to NVDA 2021.1 on my Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet at about 1pm. At 3pm the progress beeps were still beeping and, assuming the update had hit a problem, I tried to abort the update but discovered there was no way to cancel the update.

Curious whether the update process would hang on my Dell laptop, I turned that on and was prompted that a new version of NVDA was available. I launched it and, immediately after the download had finished and I'd activated the Install button, I was taken to the Windows permissions prompt. And that is when I twigged that I'd not been taken to that on my tablet. When I returned to my tablet and Alt+Tabbed around the running programs , indeed the permissions promt was open, but I hadn't been taken to it, nor had I been notified it had opened and was expecting a response.

So my suggestion / question is whether there is any way that the progress beeps can be started only after the security button has been confirmed, rather than as soon as the Update button has been pressed. If the updater hadn't spent 2 hours beeping, then I wouldn't have thought it was doing something (or attempting to do something) as part of the update process.

The moment I found the security prompt and confirmed I wanted to go ahead with the installation, it completed within 30 seconds, as it usually does!

Just a thought :)

Re: How does NVDA recignize table header from untagged pdf

Jonathan COHN

Hello,
First, I am assuming you mean that the PDF is tagged, but that the headers are not. I would expect that Column 1 and Row 1 are being considered as headings if no specific header is defined. However
realize, that PDF can be interpreted by more than just Adobe Reader these days, so, it could even be that the reader you are using puts in implied headers.

We're of precisely the same mind.  I had private discussions with Eric Damery of Vispero about this site, and the now defunct group they had on Groups.io, a bit over a year ago.  I was one who reported their group to Groups.io administration and they were shut down on Groups.io very shortly afterward.

When you have software developers producing commercial software for a niche market (and screen readers define niche market) you are literally starving the people that have fed you by pirating or hacking/cracking that software.  It's also theft, pure and simple.

That site is a den of thieves, and has remained so, and they're proud of their thievery and present themselves as "doing a service for the worldwide blind community."  Well, if what they're doing is a service, it's one I'd far rather do without.

Hello,

Given the fact that I second the message below, I ahve a real, honestquestion about IBM tts.

Isn't Viavoice freely obtainable from IBM's ftp?

As a former IBM employee, I think it is, but I stand corrected if I'm wrong.

Thanks to anyone who will want to clarify this for me.

Ciao, stay safe,

Ollie

Re: Clipspeak addon and NVDA 2021.1?

I've had no luck contacting the developer, so I removed it when NVDA 2021.1 came out because it was incompatible.
