Hi, does Foobar need an addon to run it? You say it works like winamp? If Winamp quits working that’s what I’ll switch to.

I switched to Foobar 2000 a couple of years ago.

You can customize hotkeys to act like what you were used to in Winamp,

if that suits you. It's very configurable.

Maybe. I’ll start a new thread later. I sware though the slider on both sapi and add on are missing. I won’t worry about it tonight, I’m sleepy.

I don’t know why.  When I tested the default, it had inflection.  I never tried to change it but it inflected more or less the way JAWS does.

There is something wrong somewhere.  Perhaps the developer would have suggestions.

Nope, the intonation setting is missing. The thing sounds like a robot. I think you windows users call it inflection.

I haven’t used the demo for a long time, but there is a way to see a lot of settings for SAPI 5 Eloquence.  You can open a program window.  I believe Eloquence is placed on the dessktop and pressing enter on the icon opens the window.  You may well find a setting that changes what you want.

I still have the icon on my desktop even though the demo expired awhile ago.  There is a field that says something like force pitch changes.  Perhaps that will affect what you want.

I own the SAPI5 version. When it does that, I need to deactivate it and paste in the key and reactivate it again. It happens periodically, and I have no idea why, because I'm connected to the net when it happens, and I'm connected pretty much every day, so it shouldn't be missing a check. The addon Eloquence used to have issues, but I tried it pretty recently and it sounded exactly like the SAPI5 one. So if Eloquence is what you're after, you could always uninstall the addon and try that one. Doesn't solve your actual problem I know, sorry about that.

Re: Pass next key through

Janet,

Another thought, and that's all it is, is looking into whether the program you intend to use allows it's own shortcuts to be tweaked.

Since you use NVDA everywhere it makes little sense to redefine what you're already familiar with.  But if you're not yet familiar with the specific command structure of the program you're going to use, and it's possible to remap, you might want to consider it.

Re: Are there up to date add-ons for Winamp?

Winamp itself has been out of support for years.  There's little to no point to updating an add-on to support out of support software.

I know that some people still use and love Winamp, but as out of support software it should not be discussed on the NVDA main group.  And I'd even go so far as to say discussion of an add-on for out-of-support software is questionable, though I'd certainly not prevent it as add-ons that still exist and are actively maintained fit the group description.

You may find it a little inconvenient, but if the add-on isn’t updated, you can use an earlier portable version of NVDA with the add-on.  You can create a desktop icon and a shortcut key to run it.

I cannot install this add-on either!

It said that it needs a minimum of NVDA 2021.1!

That is what I have, and I really need this add-on, because I need my
numpad to act like normal arrow keys instead of NVDA functions!

I don’t know how the other person was able to install it!

Global Commands Extension add-on add the ability to both detect
and
announce copy and paste and select, as far as I can see as well as
Jaws
does for NVDA in it s default settings. So install that and the
problem
is sorted. I stopped using ClipSpeak ages ago.
It includes a host of other invaluable features as well.  I
especially use
the multiple level volume controls, quick access to speech history
and
system tray short cuts. It also adds a setting to enable NVDA,
like Jaws,
to loop around with single letter navigation to the top of web
pages if no
more elements are found. So if you press H for heading and there
are no
more headings it will announce that you are going back to the top
of the
page and find the first heading again for you.  The announcement
makes
this better than Jaws as you are clearly told what is happening. I
find
this particularly useful. This specific feature is not enabled by
default
in Global Commands Extension and you have to enable it in
settings.

The best way to learn all the host of available features is to hit
NVDA
plus J  which plays a tone to indicate that a layered series of
commands
have been enabled , a bit like Jaws plus spacebar.  Now hitting
the H key
will open all the available commands in a menu from which you can
cursor
up and down to easily run each command and at the same time
learn the

keyboard shortcuts for each command.
I think it is a brilliant add-on and gets regularly updated
through
automatic notifications which come up in NVDA to invite update.
I have an older version of the actual add-on install but which the
add on
updated itself through NVDA to be compatible with the latest
version.

Presumably you will need the latest initial add on version to work
in the
latest NVDA. A web search should find it I think.
I will try and find it myself if no search can find it.

The latest version  is 9.8.

I could not find the download link on Gethub, so I installed version 9.7 in NVDA 2020.4, then updated to version 9.8 from within the settings of the add-on.

Next I copied the add-on directory from version 2020.4 to the add ons directory of 2021.1 and its working.

Actually I didn’t actually run the eloquence app first.  So now I’m fine. Except it’s not as expressive as I would like, I’ll post about that later.
