The male voice you hear when nvda first started, might be David. It and the Zira voice are both part of the micro soft 1core voiceds that come with win10.

I trust you are well and safe.
I am trying to cope under this uncertain situation.
May I ask you for help?
I need an NVDA addon that will announce copy, cut, paste and append text like JAWS does.
Are you aware of any?
Your assistance is appreciated in advance.

Hi, only one I know of is Clipspeak. You can check on the addons page. Some people were having problems with it. Not sure if it is going to be continued.

Re: Are there up to date add-ons for Winamp?

Hi, same here. I’m using winamp 5.66 or whatever it is. Never knew there was an update. Been using it for years.

I still use Winamp for music, myself, but..I’m pretty sure it’s dead software. I am running 5.666 on my desktop, and I installed that 5.8 beta or hack or whatever the hell it is on my laptop. I really think the only thing they did for 5.8 was to remove some dead plugins. The addon doesn’t seem to do much for me.
The good news is, as long as Windows continues to support Windows Direct Sound – winamp will probably still work. Sure, it’s legacy, but not even Foobar uses wasapi natively from what I can tell. Seems audio standards takea really long time to catch on.

Unless something has changed, Winamp isn't out of support. It was updated to version 5.8 back in 2019 and I believe there are still plans for it. Odd that the add-on works for some and not for others. It very definitely doesn't work for me. I was warned that it would be disabled when I updated and that it was. Re: NVDA find command not working
Janet,
Several points, and none meant to sound as harsh as they may be taken to be: 1. What is the "complicated transcription program"? Generalities do not help. Identifying software and version is essential as no one can divine what you're using nor know whether they've used it themselves. 2. I presume this is medical transcription, and understand the privacy concerns. But can you not replicate the issue when you create a "junk document" where you paste in completely non-private text from somewhere? That would potentially allow someone to offer remote assistance or for you to share the screen. There is no way, really, to assist based on the dearth of specific information. Any potential assistant needs to know what program(s) are involved, or websites, etc. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 I do not understand why some seek to separate a person from their actions. process I think people are too casual about disabling security utilities if they
cause a small amount of inconvenience. The whole point of UAC is that it
makes it less likely that software will be installed on your machine even if you
are careful. You don’t necessarily have the ability to refuse unwanted
software, such as malware. Sites may have hacked third party advertising
which may try to install it without user notice or intervention. Is
avoiding the slight inconvenience of having to use alt y when UAC comes up worth
the much worse problems malware can cause? Even if you have to alt tab to
the window first, is avoiding that annoyance worth dealing with malware on your
machine?
I’ve seen it claimed that UAC is easily evaded by malware designers.
That may be. I’ve seen little discussion of that. But even if it
only prevents thirty or forty percent of installations, I’d gladdly have the
small inconveniences it causes.

NVDA find command not working
Janet Brandly
Hello all,
I am using a complicated transcription program, and it would be great if NVDA could find things on the screen. However, the NVDA command is not working. Is there anything I can do? Unfortunately, I cannot share the screen or get remote support as that would violate confidentiality.
Thanks for any help,

Hello all,
Would someone please give me some tips about using GoToMeeting with NVDA? I downloaded an accessibility document online, but what I get when activating a link to a meeting invitation doesn’t match what the document says.

QT has an accessibility mode or interface or whatever ,so you might see if they'd be willing to use that. Also, though I haven't used it because I haven't needed a journal app, if you've got Windows 10, you've got access to OneNote, which might work for this sort of thing.
You can do notebooks, sections, and pages, so you could have say, a notebook per year, a section per month, something like that. You should have a pretty flexible organization scheme, and you can name the sections and I think the pages as well. So it should be pretty easy to navigate and find things.
