I got up too early this morning.

I forgot to say that I am using the one core voice Zira.

Hi, I am using  nvda 2021.1 with outlook 2016

When I move through the list of messages wit theh   arrow keys, I experience no hesitation;  well, maybe a fraction of a second.

This has been my experience with outlook 2-13 in win7 also.

Have you checked the speech rate for the one core voices?

Cheers,

Good morning

Currently I am using the Windows OneCore Voices, the male voice. When I navigate with my down aro through my mails I find that I have to wait at least three seconds for a response. NVDA doesn’t read the next mail, or the name of the sender, immediately, as I was used to when I used the ibmtts voice.

Is there anything to be done, or must I simply learn to accept the frustration?

Re: NVDA AND WINDOWS 11

Well thats good to know.

Get and install a good popup blocker like addblock+ and make sure to be safe and run malwarebytes or something just to be sure.

There are a lot of scams about and message appears once you install your system is done.

There isn't any way to make them go but a lot of things that say don't.

The issue isn't windows 11 itself or its requirements.

But looking at local stores, when covid started you could get just about anything.

But withh all the shipping and other delays if I were microsoft  I would have held back at least for the next 2-5 years which is what aparently is touted as when we will be able to get rid of it.

Right now for any user unless you use an intel 8th generation or ryzen 2nd addition you are out of luck.

So basically every system that runs windows 10 is crap because microsoft says so.

Now if you use any system with 3rd gen on win10 you are asking for trouble.

I know some that are really bog poor though but even 4th gens 5 6 and 7th gens are effected.

I have had people running 6th and 7th gen units who are happy with what they have and 4th gen to.

I may be able to upgrade to windows11 but I am upgrading with my users here.

How did you get this message.

If its the new pc health check app or other requirements meeting app, then you will have to wait till late october.

If its a popup just don't.

Scammers are already prowling about.

If in doubt, scan all your drives and just in case reformat and reinstall, its what I'd do and get a good add blocker installed, and check passwords and security.

Windows 11 aint out till the end of the year.

And frankly, unless you have a real reason to push for it I wouldn't bother.

Just about every system in my house and on my network is no go for win11 my system just clocks in at minimum specs of a 2nd generation amd system.

However for the case of the users at least till I upgrade my system and my dad upgrades his I don't plan to install it and stay on windows 10 for compatability sake.

And since my old man doesn't need any more functions he will stay on win10 for the moment.

I have other family members that have old systems that won't even make the minimum requirements.

And due to covid its harder to get the exact system you want.

If I were microsoft, I'd actually give the same requirements as windows 10 for now.

Its a good idea to be secure but with the prices of stuff I don't think its smart right now to leave most users out of the loop.

But thats just me.

Anyway if you get a message about any update to windows 11 its fake unless you are an insider.

If you are then go get it and test it I guess.

I don't even have a system I can actually test windows 11 on.

onedrive window seems to be unaccessible to NVDA and also Narrator

J.G

Hello,

before I would file an issue on NVDA's github, I ask here, if anyone has a solution:
yesterday I deleted accidantly some files from my local folder, which is synced with my onedrive. then onedrive pushed a notification, if I want to delete them also from onedrive and in the systray its icon changed status from up to date to requiers attention or something like that.
When I tried to interact with onedrive, it was impossible, both NVDA with normal mode and with the obbject review and Narrator were unable to read its interface and said "unknown" or did not see any object.
So, how could I interact with it or should I file a bug on NVDA's side?
But due to this issue exist also with Narrator, there is perhaps also a bug in onedrive's side.

thanks for your kind help.

best regards,

Re: Minimize/Maximize Window & Windows Keyboard Shortcuts in General

Scott Salzman

I just wanted to add that using the Alt + Spacebar keystrokes might be useful for getting confirmation of the size status of the current window.  This keystroke combination will open a menu that includes options to minimize or maximize the current window, in addition to other options.  With my default settings, NVDA doesn't announce anything when I maximize a window using this method, but if I then repeat the Alt + Spacebar keystrokes, NVDA will announce that the maximize option is "unavailable", which can be used to confirm that the window is currently maximized.

Hope this helps with confirming the state of the window.

That being said, the description for the F11 command is, in my opinion, misleading.  It's not a minimize/maximize toggle, but full-screen/windowed toggle.

WinKey + Up Arrow maximizes the window that currently has focus.

Hi all.

Yes, I confirm this problem. This happen because when UIA for Excel is enabled, in this moment, the app module for Excel of NVDA don’t enable the command. Is a limitation of the new and more recent support, NV Access is working and say in the user guide that the list elements, for example, is also not supported with UIA.

locked IBM TTS/Viavoice & Eloquence - Other than those bundled with software known to be legal #adminnotice

This topic is an announcement only, and will be locked immediately after it is posted.

First, the reason I am posting this is so that there is complete clarity as far as what the policy of the NVDA Group is, which I'll repeat here, verbatim, from an earlier message from our Group Owner, Nimer Jaber:

There is no legal way to use IBM TTS, or Eloquence, unless it is bundled with a legally purchased product. The information is according to NV Access. Please, do not post any additional topic regarding Eloquence or IBM TTS unless we are discussing the paid add-ons. Anyone posting anything about IBM TTS or Eloquence illegally obtained, or anyone posting links to such will be placed on moderated status.

Any 2nd posting attempt may very well result in banning from the group.

I have received a private question which was entirely appropriate about my prior statement regarding the legality of this software in the topic, IBM TTS is not working in NVDA, in message  , dated July 15, 2021.  Additional, and definitive, information about "right to use" the IBM/Viavoice/Eloquence TTS voices became available after my message, and that information clearly indicated that I was wrong in my initial assessment regarding the legality of obtaining and using IBM/Viavoice/Eloquence TTS voices in conjunction with the driver mentioned in that post.  So consider this an official retraction of that entire post.  When new information becomes available, my positions will change if indicated.

Thus, all further discussion of the use of these voices outside commercially available software that includes them is not permitted in the NVDA Group.

Thank you all in advance for your cooperation.

Re: nvda slows wi-fi

I’m not sure,

As I said on a previous message my braille display was in the next room but still connected via Bluetooth to my laptop.

Of course I realise that wi-fi is not the same as Bluetooth but proved the point when I went back to the room where the display was and also where my router is.

I then connected the laptop via ethernet cable to the router and wi-fi was fine.

When I removed the braille display from my devices on my laptop wi-fi worked fine.

The display is a freedom scientific focus 14.

What I haven’t tried yet is connecting the display via Bluetooth in close proximity to the laptop and seeing what happens then although I normally use the display on  a desktop device in the other room.

As I said it might have been my provider, virgin media “playing about or there maybe an issue with bluetooth on my laptop although my keyboard k380 works well.

Thanks for your input.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.

So, can’t think what happened.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.

I can’t imagine that NVDA slows down Wi-Fi, even if it is searching for a Braille display, which is either serial or Bluetooth, not Wi-Fi.

What makes you say that NVDA is slowing down wi-fi?

All the best

Hello again,

Think I may have found the problem.

My braille display is now turned off and I suspect nvda was searching for it.

Can’t think why nvda still should have slowed down wi-fi.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.

Hello,

For some reason nvda 21.4 slows down my wi-fi connection.

This has only happened recently.

I have now used jaws 2019 with no problem.

Tried uninstalling nvda and re-installed but still the same problem.

Any advice please.

For what its worth nvda works reasonabley on ethernet connection.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.
