It is usable to some extend but unless you're required to use this
particular IDE I would look into an alternative one if I were you since
as far as I can tell it offers no significant advantages over
competition and accessibility is significantly lacking in various areas.

I cannot answser all your questions.

First, there are some differences, yes.

They are really not that significant.

The desktop is much the same, my computer is called
“this pc”.

The start menu is changed some.

If you want to searchfor something, press the windows or start key and  enter your search.

Arrow down through the results and enter on  your choice.

There are some more  windows shortcut keys, like “windows key plus I” for settings.

Just jump right in,  it’s alright.

There is a group for win 10 it is called winaccess;

To join;  go to;

Winaccess+subscribe@...

I'm just about to upgrade my laptop computer to windows10 from windows7, and I have no knowledge about this operating system windows10.
So, my questions are these: how is the layout of the operating system. Is it like that of windows7 or XP. what about the desktop, how is it laid out. Then the user section where you have the folders like documents pictures music control panel and all that: how are they laid out. Then, are there any new features in this operating system that are not found in windows7? then what about the start menu: how isit laid out. How does one launch a program.
I am asking all these because I am a layman, as far as windows10 is concerned.
Hope to get some help as always.

Hi,

The latest stable build of NVDA is 2021.1, and Place Marker works fine.

Here's the direct download link for the addon

Re: object enhancer addon

hurrikennyandopo ...

Hi

Thanks to Rui if you install this add on into NVDA it will now come up in English

It also installs into NVDA 2021.1

The link to the drop box account where you can download it and try it out can be found at https://www.dropbox.com/s/dqnooxmas5utw70/objEnhancer_2019.2beta1_Gen.nvda-addon?dl=0

I think the other language is in Dutch so there would be no other translations.

To see how to use it after it is installed read the add on help section.

For a work around to use this add on I thought there would be a few people that speak english that would like to try it but it comes up in dutch when installed. I do not know what to do to make it come up in English so done the below work around and or pointed to the add on and english documentation in my drop box account.

If some one knows how to do it please do when it get installed it comes up in English.

*Object enhancer add on for NVDA

Object Enhancer
• Author: Babbage B.V. info@...
Object Enhancer allows you to change how NVDA announces objects on the screen using an intuitive interface. It can be used to change the label of an object, but depending on how you’re using it, has functionality to change basically any property of an object.
Changes to an object are saved in a definition. A definition contains:
• Criteria that have to apply in order for the definition to match
• Attribute changes that will be applied to every object that matches the definition
• Optional relationships with other definitions. A definition can inherrit criteria from other

You can obtain a copy of it for NVDA 2021.1 from my drop box account at https://www.dropbox.com/s/wld98w3bv5s2l9i/object%20enhancer.zip?dl=1

The add on is in Dutch and if you do the following on the installed version of NVDA you can have it in English. Press the Windows key, then arrow to all apps, then NVDA, then NVDA user configuration, then press the Enter key. Locate the addons folder, then locate the object enhancer folder, then press the Enter key.
Locate the Doc folder, there will be 2 folders inside of it. Locate the Nl folder then copy the readme.html file. Go back one step and locate the En folder and paste it in there. It should override the other readme file. Now when you bring up the help section in the addon, the first part will be in Dutch and the rest will be English.

For a portable version do the following. If it is in the NVDA folder, locate the user configuration folder, then press the Enter key. Locate the add ons folder then press the Enter key. Locate the object enhancer folder, then press the Enter key. Locate the Doc folder, then press the Enter key. There will be 2 folders inside of it. Locate the Nl folder, then press the Enter key and copy the readme.html file. Go back one step and locate the En folder and press the Enter key and paste it in there. It should override the other readme file. Now when you bring up the help section in the add on, the first part will be in Dutch and the rest will be English.

*Please note

If after that has been done and you hear NVDA speaking in another language, use the NVDA key + Ctrl key + the letter V. Next, tab down until you hear NVDA say Automatic language switching (when supported) and uncheck that box. Save your settings, then open the add on help section. The first part will be in Dutch and the rest will be in English.
If you do not want to do the above, there is an English text file which you can read within the zip file.

To be quite honest, we forgot that we had this add-on made. My own boss asked me the other day to look into a functionality to label objects in NVDA as they can do in JAWS, turns out we already had something on the table :).

I'll give it some love where needed, since it would be tremendously useful for our own work as well. If anyone has a pull-request that it wants to push then I will look into it.

Is Code::Block Accessible?

Life in Six Dots

Hi all,

Can anyone tell me if Code::Blocks is accessible with NVDA or JAWS? Preferably with a braille display.

Many thanks, Paul

Re: audio themes add-on? any plans?

There is nothing preventing anyone from sharing versions they've done workaround tweaks for if the tweak was as simple as changing the manifest file.  Talk amongst yourselves off-list.

But if you want the issue addressed, permanently (or as close as one can hope for), you must contact the add-on developer.  The NVDA Add-Ons Compatibility Page notes:

Audio Themes

Re: How to Suspend lock screen while reading All with NVDA

I should also have stated that the Turn off display and Put computer to sleep settings are present under Plugged-In, as well as, On Battery.  These should also be examined and reset to your liking.

In my case, sleep is set to Never when the computer is plugged in, while it's set to 20 minutes when on battery.

Regardless of the outcome regarding any NVDA setting, Zahra is right that you still need to tweak your power settings to make your sleep when on battery power longer than one minute.

Control Panel, Power Options, Change plan settings link.  Then tweak the two dropdowns under On battery to extend the amount of time before the screen gets turned off and the computer goes to sleep.

Also consider opening Windows 10 Settings, Accounts, Sign-in Options pane, navigating to the dropdown for Require Sign-in - When you've been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again?, and changing the value to Never rather than the default of When PC wakes up from sleep.  This really depends on whether it's your computer, somewhere that only you have access to it, or if it's a work computer in a cubicle where anyone could walk up and wake it from sleep.

Re: accessible streaming services

hurrikennyandopo ...

Hi Aim

The following page might help from off my website at http://www.accessibilitycentral.net/accessible%20on%20demand%20and%20video%20streaming%20services.html

When they were tested they were done with nvda.

TVNZ they are 2 lazy to label the graphics for the movie they used to be at one time now they just say in the link new season. To gt around it use the google chrome browser it tells you the steps so you know what the shows are.

The page also tells you if it is accessible from off the phone either android or apple or tv as well.

They all have there qwerks and makes you wonder how they test for accessiblity as in TVNZ on demand.

Any how if there were any qwerks then it would of be mentioned. Things can change like they did with tvnz on demand.

I do not know about other services as I do not use them but if there are other blind people on the list who use other streaming on demand services with a screen reader either on the phone or computer please share how well they work.

This is from the New Zealand side and some of the services to us.
