object nav

Hi,

I think their was a add-on that played sounds for when you got to a radio button, checkbox, or button. I think it was called Object Nav, will it be updated to work with the current NVDA version?

Kenny

Ignore Blanks Indentation Reporting

  • Author: Samuel Kacer
  • NVDA compatibility: 2021.1 and beyond
  • Download stable version

This is an NVDA addon that alters the reporting of indentation by disregarding blank lines when deciding whether to report changes in indentation. It is best understood by contrasting with normal behaviour with an example.

Consider this example:

def foo():
    x = 42

    return x

def bar():

The current behaviour of NVDA is to report indentation changes for any line where the indentation has changed, even if the line is blank. So, the example would be read like:

def foo():
tab x = 42
no indent blank
tab return x
no indent blank
def bar():

The disadvantage for this behaviour is that for most programming languages, like python, a blank line has no semantic significance and is just used to visually separate lines of code with no change to the code's meaning. Therefore, by reporting the change of indentation upon entering a blank line and then reporting it again after landing on the next line is just noise that makes it harder to focus on understanding the code.

This addon aims to improve on the behaviour by ignoring blank lines when computing indentation speech, thus the example is read like this instead:

def foo():
tab x = 42
blank
return x

no indent def bar():

In the main window, tabbing does nothing.

I haven’t used the add-on.  For now, you should be able to use a version that works with the add-on as a portable version.

I gather that there is no add-on for MP3 Direct Cut that is compatible with the current version of NVDA.  I made good use of the prior add-ons for this program.

Re: nvda not announcing command description

Gene

That isn’t what appears to be wanted.  The descriptions you are talking about appear to be things like reply to the sender of a message when you are on the reply control in a ribbon.  These are not the same messages as in a combo box, for example when JAWS tutor help is on, up and down arrow to select item.

JAWS also announces tutor help when you use control tab even when tutor help is off.

As far as I know the settings you are describing are on by default.

I'm not 100% sure but you can press NVDA + 2 to toggle the announcing
of command keys, for example if you have this setting enabled if you
press tab NVDA will announce tab and then whatever control is focused.
You can enable the reporting of tooltips in the NVDA settings under
review cursor I believe which may solve your other problem but I could
be wrong.

Awesome, the filter data should be small enough to stash in a cookie, and there shouldn't be any additional privacy implications as long as all you stash are the serialized values.

Thanks again, this is definitely a useful resource.

NVDA Is Not Reading Cell Contents With Excel online and Box

I use Box and access shared excel files online.

Up until last week it worked slowly, but it was possible to navigate the spread sheet.

However now NVDA  will not read the sell contents.

Here is the output from  NVDA Please note that the filename has been changed to filename, as the file name is confidential.

Start of output from NVDA

YES . Martin . "E" 10 . Data validation Press Alt+Down to Expand The Data Validation Options .

YES . Martin . "E" 10 . Data validation Press Alt+Down to Expand The Data Validation Options .  label

End of output from NVDA

Please note that it red out the contents of the sell which   the focus happened to be in when the spread sheet opened

When I arrow around the spread sheet, NVDA says "main landmark" It says this only once, and then there is no speech output.

It doesn’t even read out the sell references.

I can press F2 and  arrow about in the sell, and if there is content in there, then it will read it out.

I have tried google chrome, and it can read the sells  however it says blank and then reads out the content in the sell.

NVDA Version: 2021.1

Firefox version 90.0.2 (64-bit)

Google chrome version 92.0.4515.131 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Version of excel  just says Excel for the web

Re: Webex Accessibility Regression

Hi

Update on this topic,  Cisco did some upgrades to improve the interface, and WebEx does work again with NVDA.

It seems that one of their corporate clients has a policy that all their new software solutions should be accessible.  and Cisco fixed the problem.

Have others noticed the fix yet?

You see the same number of rows with and without filters because output is paginated to 50 elements per page. After the table you can find the Previous/Next links, and before it, the displayed range and the total. However, contents of each row should not remain the same after aplying a filter. For example, to get only Python3-compatible add-ons: https://nvda-addons.org/?namesum=&channel=&minimum=&lasttested=2019.3&orderby=

Selecting your NVDA version in the combo box "Compatible up to NVDA version" didn't do the trick? Database should only output add-ons that are compatible with that version and beyond. Something like this: https://nvda-addons.org/?namesum=&channel=&minimum=&lasttested=2021.1&orderby=

I think what is seen here is awesome. It would be nice, once someone has uploaded new add-ons to see a Recently added section, so we can know what is new. This section might include updated versions of current add-ons too. Just a thought I had. Great job, on the whole for what has been made thus far!

Dear NVDA users across the world,

I'm pleased to announce to you the availability of the final version of NVDA-addons.org, the first website created to serve as an international directory for both official and unofficial NVDA add-ons.

Indeed, this project aims to gather the download links of all possible add-ons, within logical standards of usability. You won't have to search in Google anymore to, at the end, find an outdated version uploaded to Dropbox, or ask through your preferred mailing list until someone is able to rescue and send you as an attachment that add-on that is distributed from mailbox to mailbox for years. In NVDA_addons.org, your favourite add-on may be hosted by Dropbox, but we, both users and administrators, will make our best to guarantee you its most updated release. Moreover, you'll be able to know before downloading any add-on its exact compatibility range and development status.

The platform has been self-developed by us and has the following features:

  1. Table of add-ons on the home page: As simple as typing NVDA-addons.org in your preferred web browser. Last updated add-ons are shown at the top and official add-ons, those published at add-ons.nvda-project.org, are flagged as "verified".
  2. Filters: You can filter add-on table by add-on's name, summary, release channel, minimum NVDA version and last tested NVDA version.
  3. Paginator: Browse the add-on table 50 by 50.
  4. Dedicated page for each add-on: See its author, website, description and available downloads, with supported NVDA version range for each of them.
  5. Direct download both from home page and add-on page.
  6. Supported by advancedAddonFiles: The directory already contains all the add-ons added to the Spanish-speaking NVDA Community website, NVDA.es. This is because NVDA-addons.org is only an interface for advancedAddonFiles, the application that manages add-on additions and updates.
  7. Automatic translator in all pages, powered by Google.
  8. top 10 downloaded add-ons: All pages include a widget showing the 10 most downloaded add-on releases along with their last tested NVDA version.
  9. Newsletter: With our newsletter, you'll get a digest of updated and added add-ons each week, and also special notices and information about review requests. Subscribe by sending a blank message to news+subscribe@.... This is also displayed as a widget in all pages.
  10. Donate: We'd prefer not to ask for donations, but the Spanish-speaking NVDA Community Association, stablished in Spain as a legal nonprofit, survives thanks to them. Maintaining NVDA-addons.org is only one of our initiatives. You can donate through PayPal, credit/debit card and GitHub Sponsors, using the widget at the bottom of each page.
  11. Direct contact: We are human and willing to help. Send us your thoughts, questions and suggestions to admin@....

How can you collaborate?

  1. Adding new add-ons: You can submit a review request for one add-on that is not registered. It doesn't matter if you are its author or not. Once we've verified it doesn't contain spam, it'll be published to receive public comments regarding add-on usability and security. In absence of them, or after they've been resolved, the add-on will be added to the database. If you've specified your email, you'll be given direct access to update that add-on. You can also submit a review request for already registered add-ons to discuss usability or security issues.
  2. Letting us know of add-on updates: If you find an outdated add-on in our database, don't hesitate to reach us at admin@... with all the information you have about the new version. We'll happy to publish that new version, provieded that it's from the same author or we have reasonable evidences of abandonment from that maintainer and a new one continues the development.

What happens if you have an interested friend who doesn't know English? That's, in fact, the idea behind the translate widget. Just choose your native language and enjoy. We know that no translation can match a human translation, but this is our easiest and simplest solution to have NVDA-addons.org internationalized. If you want to export our catalog to your local NVDA website, don't forget that it's available in JSON format at https://nvda-addons.org/files/get.php?addonslist

On the other hand, don't worry to write us a message in another language. We'll make our best to reply you.

What is coming next? We're now announcing the first version of the website but can't wait to think about the future. Héctor Benítez has developed an add-ons store prototype for NVDA-addons.org, which will be enhanced until it gets to a stable version that we all can use to review the catalog and download the add-ons we want from NVDA directly. You can download the prototype, in spanish, from: https://nvda-addons.org/files/get.php?file=tienda

I really hope this new tool is useful for you and every NVDA user you know. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Best regards.
