Issues with number presentation and beeps

Nancy Shackelford

Is there another setting regarding NVDA sounds such as the beeps for
progress or forms mode? They stayed in the Windows audio instead of my
other headphones when I changed the output location of the
synthesizer. Is there a place to set how numbers are spoken, such as
getting the "and" out of the speech? Cannot find these in settings.
Thanks,
Nance

Re weird things not working after updating NVDA - a lot of suggestions on reinstalling or how to get back to the previous version, but just to try the most important and easiest first step first - make sure you have restarted the PC after updating to first test whether THAT fixes any of these issues.

Also, I'm not sure what has happened here, but we've just put a bit of work into improving the COM Registration fixing tool and that can fix up some of these quirks caused by needed DLL files inadvertently being unregistered (More on that in today's In-Process, once I get to uploading it).

That won’t work on all web pages. Some have in page links which will not open in separate windows, or at least it does not appear to work for me.

Thanks Rui.

I'll give it a shot, though I think I know what may be wrong, so I will
try to fix the problem with my computer then try 2021.2 again. I did
notice that 2021.2 did fix what I viewed as a problem.

After doing a Google search then clicking on and item in the search
results, then alt left-arrowing back to the search results, I was placed
back at the top of the search list instead of the link I originally
clicked on. I'm confident that in earlier versions of NVDA this was not
the case, and this morning I did see that this now works again, which is
a major convenience.

Thanks for your help.

Dennis

I thought I had remembered that, too.  That's why I favor third-party utilities that OCR process any image scanned PDF file as a unit and that are able to save the results of that OCR processing with the file so that it need not be redone if you need to reference it at a later point in time.

Hello!

NVDA+R have the inconvenient of only reading what is on the screen.

I am developing an add-on to recognize image files like FineReader does...

It is based on NAPS, wich is based on Tesseract OCR.

It is working for Windows 10 64-bit.

If you want to test, it is available at:

Re: Windows tool or NVDA command to convert a image in to text

I very seldom have used NVDA to invoke Windows 10 OCR, particularly for a PDF file open in Adobe.

I prefer to use a third party OCR option.  See:  Free & Good OCR Software for Image Scanned PDFs

Hi,

My favorite editor is EditPlus. Since Nvda 2021.1 this editor is no
longer working with NVDA.
I thought, that in 2021.1 of NVDA, it would crash.
In NVDA 2021.2 it will not read anything that is in the editor window.
I have downloaded the latest v5 64 bit version of EdiPlus and NVDA will
read text, but each time will read the full document when pressing down
arrow.

For me not as big problem, because I use Jaws most of the time, but I
would report this.

Ah,

No, set the orbit output table in nvda to us English eight dot braille.

As I mentioned this is grade 0 braille.

I don’t think there is a way of completely turning off translation in nvda so nvda will send what you are reading to the orbit thinking its grade 0.

This is just braille ascii code so you should get at least an attempt to read grade 3 braille as you want.

Please let me know how this goes as I am interested my self.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.

Re: log in scrreen and Braile

Hello,
Is the display connected via usb or Bluetooth?.
Sometimes Bluetooth doesn't "kick in" at log in screen for some braille displays for some reason.
Once you have set your braille display as you want have you gone to settings and gone to save configerations at log in?.
This does help sometimes.
I think it may also depend on the particular display.
Also make sure your version of nvda is up to date.
Hope this may help.
Kind regards,

There is no setting, to my knowledge.  The program simply has to be running in the background.  It constantly feeds "silence" to the sound card so that it can never go to sleep and, indirectly, neither can any Bluetooth audio device it's streaming to.

And by feeding silence I mean just that - it plays zero volume sound.  What allows the card to be put to sleep is when no sound is being sent to it by anything.

There is also an NVDA Add-On, BluetoothAudio, meant to address the same issue.
