If you don’t mind using another synthesizer when you are listening to text containing a lot of large numbers, the easiest thing to do would be to use a different synthesizer for that time. 
 
Eloquence doesn’t insert and.  I don’t know what other synthesizers don’t

There is no NVDA setting to do this.  If it can be done, it is a windows setting related to sounds being played through the soundcard you like.  These NVDA sounds are wave files and I don’t know if you can tell windows to play wave sounds through a specific device.  And that would affect things such as wave files in general, if you listen to audio in the form of wave files such as music you have digitized in the wave format and you will hear Windows sounds through the same place as your synthesizer.

Re weird things not working after updating NVDA - a lot of suggestions on reinstalling or how to get back to the previous version, but just to try the most important and easiest first step first - make sure you have restarted the PC after updating to first test whether THAT fixes any of these issues.

Also, I'm not sure what has happened here, but we've just put a bit of work into improving the COM Registration fixing tool and that can fix up some of these quirks caused by needed DLL files inadvertently being unregistered (More on that in today's In-Process, once I get to uploading it).

That won’t work on all web pages. Some have in page links which will not open in separate windows, or at least it does not appear to work for me.

I'll give it a shot, though I think I know what may be wrong, so I will
try to fix the problem with my computer then try 2021.2 again. I did
notice that 2021.2 did fix what I viewed as a problem.

After doing a Google search then clicking on and item in the search
results, then alt left-arrowing back to the search results, I was placed
back at the top of the search list instead of the link I originally
clicked on. I'm confident that in earlier versions of NVDA this was not
the case, and this morning I did see that this now works again, which is
a major convenience.

I thought I had remembered that, too.  That's why I favor third-party utilities that OCR process any image scanned PDF file as a unit and that are able to save the results of that OCR processing with the file so that it need not be redone if you need to reference it at a later point in time.

NVDA+R have the inconvenient of only reading what is on the screen.


I am developing an add-on to recognize image files like FineReader does...


It is based on NAPS, wich is based on Tesseract OCR.

It is working for Windows 10 64-bit.

This will turn off translation but, I suspect braille display may show what is on screen and just red it as some form of braille.

However I suspect if no braille is selected you will have to use another keyboard such as a qwerty usb or Bluetooth to control the pc.

I very seldom have used NVDA to invoke Windows 10 OCR, particularly for a PDF file open in Adobe.  

I prefer to use a third party OCR option.  See:  Free & Good OCR Software for Image Scanned PDFs
