Re: Issues with number presentation and beeps

If you don’t mind using another synthesizer when you are listening to text containing a lot of large numbers, the easiest thing to do would be to use a different synthesizer for that time.

Eloquence doesn’t insert and.  I don’t know what other synthesizers don’t

I had thought the NVDA speecch dictionary might solve this problem.  That may not be the case according to a very little bit of experimentation I’ve done.  You may have to use the speech dictionary in the synthesizer itself.

it’s the speech synthesizer that determines whether and is spoken.  NVDA doesn’t insert it.

Others may have the knowledge to discuss if there is a way to eliminate it when a synthesizer inserts it by using a regular expression in the NVDA speech dictionary.

Hi everyone,

This week's In-Process is out, featuring, as you might expect, NVDA 2021.2, including a reminder to restart after updating, information on the COM Registration fixing tool and an article comparing NVDA to VoiceOver: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/in-process-17th-september-2021/

I did find this from Acapela: https://www.acapela-group.com/solutions/my-own-voice/ It's apparently a service where you record a set of 50 phrases they give you, and create a TTS from it.  It looks like you can create it and try it out for free, but in order to actually use it you will need to pay.  I couldn't readily see how much it costs.

It is more playing around with certain parts of it like changing the tone etc then listening to it to see if it does what you want. There is a file in where all the voices are keaped called tweaky that will guide you on how to do it.

It might be different for the sapi version but have not tried it.

There is also a link here that is off one of my pages of where to look to find the E speak voices where they are keap.

Look for the headings that refer to E speak and they will show you where to look on the installer version as well as the portable version..

I have put in the contents below for the tweaky file.

Yu can copy the content of the tweaky file into notepad then make some changes. But to hear the difference it must be put back into the folder where they are keap.

Re: Issues with number presentation and beeps

There is no NVDA setting to do this.  If it can be done, it is a windows setting related to sounds being played through the soundcard you like.  These NVDA sounds are wave files and I don’t know if you can tell windows to play wave sounds through a specific device.  And that would affect things such as wave files in general, if you listen to audio in the form of wave files such as music you have digitized in the wave format and you will hear Windows sounds through the same place as your synthesizer.

Re weird things not working after updating NVDA - a lot of suggestions on reinstalling or how to get back to the previous version, but just to try the most important and easiest first step first - make sure you have restarted the PC after updating to first test whether THAT fixes any of these issues.

Also, I'm not sure what has happened here, but we've just put a bit of work into improving the COM Registration fixing tool and that can fix up some of these quirks caused by needed DLL files inadvertently being unregistered (More on that in today's In-Process, once I get to uploading it).

Thanks Rui.

I'll give it a shot, though I think I know what may be wrong, so I will
try to fix the problem with my computer then try 2021.2 again. I did
notice that 2021.2 did fix what I viewed as a problem.

After doing a Google search then clicking on and item in the search
results, then alt left-arrowing back to the search results, I was placed
back at the top of the search list instead of the link I originally
clicked on. I'm confident that in earlier versions of NVDA this was not
the case, and this morning I did see that this now works again, which is
a major convenience.

Thanks for your help.

I thought I had remembered that, too.  That's why I favor third-party utilities that OCR process any image scanned PDF file as a unit and that are able to save the results of that OCR processing with the file so that it need not be redone if you need to reference it at a later point in time.

Hello!

NVDA+R have the inconvenient of only reading what is on the screen.

I am developing an add-on to recognize image files like FineReader does...

It is based on NAPS, wich is based on Tesseract OCR.

It is working for Windows 10 64-bit.

If you want to test, it is available at:

Good Afternoon:  What is the key stroke or add on to use with NVDA to change a image into text in order to read information from a PDF? I thought the numpad incert key + r activated this in windows 10. I guess I was wrong.  Can someone help.  I'm using Adobe reader d. c., but I received the document but it say's graphic for each page.  I was thinking I could change this.

Sorry, but "No Braille" it is to do not use any Braille display...

Hello again,

I have just noticed a setting within nvda.

Go to settings,

Cursor down to braille,

Tab to change braille display.

Tab to no braille.

Then tab to apply then ok.

This will turn off translation but, I suspect braille display may show what is on screen and just red it as some form of braille.

Then go to the site you want to look at braille grade 3.

However I suspect if no braille is selected you will have to use another keyboard such as a qwerty usb or Bluetooth to control the pc.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.

Hey,

I’m using the orbit reader 20 plus. I’ve currently got the output table set to. UK English grade 2.

Thanks,

Harmony.

Thank you Bryan for this information.  The NVDA key + r is what I thought, but I didn't wait long enough.  I also didn't arrow down to see the information, so, I thought I had the key stroke wrong.

Re: Windows tool or NVDA command to convert a image in to text

I very seldom have used NVDA to invoke Windows 10 OCR, particularly for a PDF file open in Adobe.

I prefer to use a third party OCR option.  See:  Free & Good OCR Software for Image Scanned PDFs
