I am using student version downloaded from a university in the US. It is free, offered to every student enrolled. I am using a new laptop with 8RAM. Almost everything except Office, McAffee and NVDA was removed to fix the issue. It still crashed.

There is a huge difference between having a strong connection to cloud storage (and other bits), which Microsoft 365 does, and web-based.

Microsoft 365 is not web-based in any conventional sense of that term.  There is an online version of Office, which is part of Microsoft 365, but most people using Microsoft 365 are using the installed versions of the various office applications.

If the online version is what happens to be in use here, that needs to be clearly stated, as it's an entirely different animal.  It's way more akin to Google Docs.

apparently, this issue exists with NVDA 2021.2 with Windows versions
below 21h2. I also recieved two reports from persons running 21h1 on
their computers, that they cannot use audio ducking feature, too.



The only time it won't work is if the new release is a compatibility breaking release, like NVDA 2021.1 was.  We don't do such a release every year, but if we do, it will be the first release of the year.  Most importantly, if we do, we'll be sure to publicise it well in advance, as we have done previously - both here in the group, on our social media (Twitter and Facebook) and in our In-Process blog: https://www.nvaccess.org/category/in-process/

If you do attempt to install a new version which is incompatible with your existing add-ons, it will warn you of this and which add-ons are incompatible, before you update, and at that point you can decide to continue and disable those add-ons, or cancel and not go ahead with the update.  Another option, is to create a portable version.  A portable version lets you separate, as you suggested - your two versions of NVDA so you can keep using older add-ons if needed until they are updated to work with a new version of NVDA.  There are a couple of caveats to using a portable copy, such as not being able to run it on the logon screen, and these are outlined in the user guide: https://www.nvaccess.org/files/nvda/documentation/userGuide.html#PortableAndTemporaryCopyRestrictions

I think there is some sort of sounds add-on. I’ve seen it discussed when
this problem has been discussed before. Do you have this problem when you
start NVDA with all add-ons disabled? If you don’t know how, we can tell
you. That is the first thing to test unless you know you have the add-on
I’m talking about. We need to know if NVDA has anything to do with this
problem in the first place.

I've looked through NVDA's preferences and various settings, and have done a
search in this forum, but I haven't found any information about how to
resolve this issue.

The problem is, when I have speech mode off, I still hear beeping sounds
whenever I click on new windows/programs/tabs that I have on my desktop.

For example:
I have speech mode off. I'm on Mozilla Firefox on one monitor, and then I
click on my Atom Text Editor in my second monitor, and I hear the beep right
after the click.
Also, clicking on different tabs, whether on my browser, or my text editor,
sets off this beep as well.
All of this happens even though I have speech mode off.

Does anyone else have this issue? And can anyone tell me how I can make the
beeping sounds go away? I have no need for it. All I need is the speech mode
on/off.

I thought perhaps installing this plugin would do the trick, but all it does
is eliminate the beep option for when you toggle with "Insert + s" (i.e.
with the add on, you can just toggle between speech mode on and off), it
doesn't actually eliminate the beeps I still hear when speech mode is off.

Any help would be great. Thank you kindly.
