I would think recommendations of numpads that work would be useful.

Hi Dr Sharad,

Good question - the answer is yes, as long as the computer recognises the keyboard, then it will work fine with NVDA, even with more keys than the original keyboard.  One thing to note is that NVDA does not automatically change modes - so if you have NVDA set to Laptop keyboard layout and would like to use desktop layout with your desktop keyboard, you will need to set that in NVDA's keyboard settings.

Kind regards

Quentin.

Hi, the answer to your question is most likely a yes. Just make sure you are in desktop keyboard layout.

Re: Audio ducking not supported?

On the subject of soundcards and enhancements I am getting used to my v7 sound card with enhancements for 7.1 because it supports it.

Its a different style of playing games, thats for sure, doesn't effect any speech though and no issues like my internal card has so it was worth the cash I got it from atguys.

No, this doesn’t work where a link expands an existing page.

For that, you would press NVDA+Enter to expand it.

Thanks Rui.

I'll give it a shot, though I think I know what may be wrong, so I will
try to fix the problem with my computer then try 2021.2 again. I did
notice that 2021.2 did fix what I viewed as a problem.

After doing a Google search then clicking on and item in the search
results, then alt left-arrowing back to the search results, I was placed
back at the top of the search list instead of the link I originally
clicked on. I'm confident that in earlier versions of NVDA this was not
the case, and this morning I did see that this now works again, which is
a major convenience.

Thanks for your help.

Re: point to consider with NVDA2021.2 and eSpeak

Laz

As we all know, audio of any type comes down to a personal preference.
After using Eloquence for over a decade I reached the point that I
couldn't stand it. ESpeak has so many variants one can choose from,
that there's bound to be one that makes listening to it more palatable
for ones ears. One also has the capability to create ones own variant
to ones liking, which many have done. So yes, I choose ESpeak over
Eloquence every time. Right now however, I use the Windows OneCore
voices.

Stay safe,

Laz

It is more responsive with NVDA than any flavour of Eloquence, but nowhere
near as easy to listen to.

Interesting. I like a slightly lower pitch value. That does get things a
little closer to sounding like Eloquence though. (grin)

Well I did some experimenting with NVDA 2021.2 since its Espeak has been
updated. I found if I set the voice to English American, the variant to
Edward, raise the pitch to around 70, lower the inflection from 75, default,
down to 30 or 40, Espeak for me is much more pleasant to listen to. And it
is much more understandable at least for me.

I'll freely admit I didn't:

1.  Because it's not NVDA related in any meaningful sense.

2.  I cannot think of anything more annoying, to myself (others will differ), than listening to my own voice come out of a synth.  I don't even like hearing myself on recordings.  The idea of "me talking to me" from a screen reader - No, thanks.

Hi Brian,

You didn’t look too hard in this instance. 😊

https://mov.acapela-group.com/

Apparently, you can produce your own voice with the Acapela synth, then get it as a SAPI voice, so it would be quite possible to have your own voice with NVDA.

I don’t know costs or anything, but it is certainly possible.

Udit,

Not that I am aware of.   Are you trying to get NVDA to pronounce your name correctly?   If so, it would probably be easier to do that by playing with the default dictionary, or, if you use various voices that "screw up" your name differently, the respective voice dictionaries, to get a substitution string used that actually gets pronounced correctly.

I'm doing a SWAG here, but you could have it say Udit as something like You dit or You deet or Ooh dit or Ooh deet.  I've had to play with all sorts of tricks to get various synths to pronounce names correctly.

What browser are you using?  Many people use browsers to read PDF files.

I also use m.facebook.com, since it worked the best for me. If I need to do anything fancy with my post, I'll just do it from the iOS app.
