Emoji saying 12 in outlook not saying the name
hurrikennyandopo ...
Hi guys
Has any one had the following problem using outlook? when after inserting a emoji when you go to read back what you have typed in the email it says 12 instead of the name of the emoji. They are using windows 10 not sure which version yet and to make sure I am going to get her to update nvda she might already have I will find out shortly. The below is what she said and I have no answer about saying emoji before it. But, weirdly, when I select them and read back over that spot it just says 12 where each one is. Then if I send the e-mail and someone replies I can read them if I scroll down to my original e-mail. Emojis from other people are reading fine. Is this a setting I need to change in NVDA or is it something to do with my rather outdated 2013 version of outlook. And can I set NVDA to say emoji when it reads one so I know it isn’t part of the text if it is a bit random. _._,_._,_ So it seems she can read emojis in a email but not after it has been inserted into her email that she types up. Any ideas? Gene nz

NVDA Responsiveness in Versions of Microsoft Office
Bhavya shah
Dear all,
I currently have Word for Microsoft 365 installed on my Windows 10 powered laptop. Since several NVDA versions, I have generally not been satisfied with NVDA’s responsiveness in this version of Word, whether it be in navigation through large documents on editing text in small ones. Turning on experimental UIA support improves responsiveness but introduces various other bugs. As such, I am considering switching to another version of Microsoft Office. Which one would you say, say 2013 or 2019, is NVDA snappiest in? I would appreciate any assistance and thoughts in this regard. Re: Messages Being Marked As Spam - What You Can Do

Hi Brian,
I use Time Warner Mail now known officially as Spectrum mail service. I was getting this issue of group messages marked as spam on several e-mail addresses. I used to go to the online interface and mark them as not spam and send them to the inbox. This did not solve the problem. Every time the mail hit the server, it was filtered into the spam folder. I called tech support and they told me to put those trouble addresses into my online address book. I did this and for a few days, nothing changed, then after about 4 or 5 days, the messages started showing up as normal mail in my inbox on my Thunderbird mail program. So if anyone has this issue, give this method a try as well. On 9/27/2021 11:09 AM, Brian Vogel

Messages Being Marked As Spam - What You Can Do
#adminnotice
Hello All,
I have noticed recently that we are having a number of people unsubscribed for marking messages as spam. Let me first say that I know that those of you being so unsubscribed have likely not done this marking yourself, but it's a part of the spam filtering your email service provider has. When this occurs, there are things you can do to help avoid this happening to others in the future, the most important of which is going to your spam folder and unmarking the message that got sent there that originated from groups.io. This starts a feedback loop with the email service provider and their spam filtering and even a few of these unmarkings tends to get the filter that classified groups.io messages as spam removed. It's also helpful, when possible, to write support at your email service provider and telling them that since groups.io is a subscription only service, nothing that comes from it can be considered spam. If you haven't subscribed to a group, you will not get messages from it, plain and simple. If you happen to have accidentally marked a groups.io message as spam yourself, then please do take the time to go to your spam folder and unmark it. The feedback loop to email service providers works both ways, and just a few "mark as spam" actions can trigger the creation of a filter by the email service provider, and that can affect a large number of people. Unmarking messages accidentally marked as spam can prevent this from happening. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity. ~Martin Luther King, Jr.

To be honest, I can't recall (I must have done it awhile ago). I did find this page with the download of the 64-bit version: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/download-64-bit-installer.html But it sounds like you might have that already? If it won't let you install over the top, you might need to uninstall the 32-bit version first maybe? According to that page, it says the 64-bit version is only available in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK - I'm not sure if it will throw an error if you try to install it elsewhere.

Hi, Why not uninstall the 32 bit. Then install the 64 bit. Try that. Keep the 32 bit should the 64 bit cause you problems.

Version 21.10 of Joseph Lee's add-ons are on their way
#addonrelease
Hi all, I think you can consider this one of my parting gifts: Version 21.10 of my add-ons (except Add-on Updater) are on their way. These include Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, Event Tracker, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, StationPlaylist, and Windows App Essentials. These updates will be made available via Add-on Updater in coming days (the thread will be updated then).
BEFORE YOU INSTALL:
I’m letting go of most add-ons so I can focus on other things in life. Those who have experienced graduate school education (masters and doctorate/PH.D.) can understand what I’m talking about – the first few weeks are easy, but as time goes on, school takes priority. I’m entering a phase in life where I need to balance between school and other duties, therefore I’m letting go of add-on development which was a big part of my life for the last few years. Besides, we now have people in NVDA community who are more than capable of maintaining add-ons like the ones I have maintained, and I’m confident that folks will make these add-ons better in the long term. I am counting on you, the entire NVDA community around the world, to show users respect by maintaining these add-ons in the future.
Key highlights of version 21.10:
Thank you. Cheers, Joseph

Hi all,
Adobe now has a 64 bit version of reader. The upgrade isn't automatic however. Is the 64 bit version compatible with NVDA as well?

Re: Need help performing clean uninstall of NVDA

Do any NVDA add-ons make changes to the registry? Before pursuing
such actions as changing the registry, contacting the developer of the add-on
might be a good step. And if it does, you might then find out exactly what
to change, thus eliminating the need for removing everything related to NVDA,
then reinstalling everything and reestablishing all settings.

NVDA Hi all. Yes, it is enough for clean all NVDA data, but delete keys from the registry don’t is very necessary. In the registry, NVDA save the folder of configuration (roaming or APPdata\locale) and the option of secure mode in secure screens like the user account control. So, if you uninstall NVDA, restart your system and delete the folder of configuration, you can install again NVDA and after your addons without problems. Regards.

Hi to all Please, how to perform a clean uninstall of NVDA. I and some other people have problem with lbl add-on, an add-on to use along with Reaper. The author said that the only way he or she know is to reinstall Windows, then install NVDA, then the add-on should work. I'm not sure that error come from NVDA or not, but if remove via program and feature, delete NVDA folder from roamming, and even find and delete keys from registry. Is it enough to clean all NVDA data from a computer? Any help would be appreciated. Cuong

Re: Using NVDA with Microsoft Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)

Greetings, Thank you for the recommendations! I should have thought of that... :-( I have never used Narator and that audio output should also come through. I've also never used NVDA remote and have no idea what the pros/cons would be. Is it capable of upgrading itself in that scenario? These are great recommendations, thank you~! Russ

Greetings, I have a couple problems when using MS RDP with NVDA as described below. Sometimes when I use MS RDP to access another Windows computer from my local Windows computer the audio from the remote computer is much lower than the local computer audio. For example, I was using a local Windows 10 computer to RDP to a remote Windows 8 computer and I can hardly hear NVDA output from the remote computer, however, the local computer NVDA output is easy to hear. I am not using NVDA remote, I'm running NVDA on both computers and using the audio from RDP. The volume on the remote computer is set to 100%. The sound mixer on the local computer does not include a selector for RDP. All the selectors are at the same level. If I go to the remote computer and disconnect from RDP the NVDA audio follows the volume control on that computer. Any recommendations would be appreciated. When I use MS RDP to access a remote computer and try to update NVDA on the remote computer the update fails with a file in use error. The error reports something like the file is in use by another user and allows you to retry, however, the only way I know to resolve this problem is to go to the remote computer and access it directly and complete the update. A screen shot of the error dialog box is attached for reference.
Many years ago this did not happen. When I first ran into this problem I reported it. It has never been resolved since. It is not always easy to go to the remote computer to do the NVDA update. If there is a better way to do this please let me know. Thank you Russ

Russell, one thing you could try in terms of updating NVDA is to temporarily use narrator?
And, in terms of the volume levels, I also find remote NvDA dropping volume on/off at times via remote desktop, but, haven't figured out the cause as of yet.

Attention Chess Players
If you are on Twitter, get in touch with @BlindPandas. They are creating an accessible, modern, and fully featured chess playing program for PC, with offline and online play capabilities. They are looking for experienced blind chess players to help with testing.
If you are interested, please send them a direct message on Twitter.
And please forward to any other blind chess-related mailing lists, groups etc.
Personally, I regret not finishing the Hadley courses on learning to play. Anyone have the course material in electronic format, that I could load onto a Braille display?
