Re: Downloading from Vocalizer Tiflotecnia and Automatic Language change

Hello!

1 - Here is the text explaining how to procede...

To install the driver and the desired voices, perform the following steps:
• 1 - Open the NVDA menu, with NVDA+N;
• 2 - Down arrow until Tools submenu and press enter to open it;
• 3 - Find the item "Manage Add-ons" and press Enter;
• 4 - Click on the "Install" button and in the following dialog browse to locate the desired Add-on;
• 5 - After pressing the "Open" button, NVDA will present a warning dialog asking you to confirm you want to install. Answer Yes to continue;
• 6 - Execute these steps untill you have installed all desired Add-ons. To finish, Tab untill the "Close" button and press Enter. Re-start NVDA when prompted.

2 - But, pay atention that is the old version and that one only switch languages by indication of NVDA!

3 - The version available at https://vocalizer-nvda.com can also switch language based in the group of Unicode characters present...

So, even if the web page do not identify the language, if the text is writen with greek characters, Vocalizer will switch to greek if the voice is installed.

The download page is at:

https://vocalizer-nvda.com/downloads

unfortunately, now is only in portuguese...

Hi Group,

I have two questions and I would appreciate your
comments.
1. As it is said that Vocalizer Tiflotecnia for NVDA has automatic
language change I tried to download voices that I need, but I am not
sure where to save them when it gives me the option to open or save.
1. eSpeak sometimes performs automatic language change but incorectly.
For instance when I have Turkish text it reads it as Spanish.
Also when I read Greek text on a website it reads the letters one at a
time, but not as words or sentences.
When I copy the text and paste it into a Word document it reads it as
it should.

Re: must have NVDA add-ons

Shaun,

Your post is the perfect example of what I said earlier, and that is, what's a "must have" is very often entirely dependent on what you need to do, where, and with what computer(s).

It's still good to see what various folks are using, with brief descriptions of why.

Re: must have NVDA add-ons

Well Firstly addon updater.

Thats needed for the addons.

The windows essentials is also good to.

Next is the addons documentation if you need easy access to it.

I also have addon unpacker but thats just so I can make my own for my own use if I need to modify things.

I have interactive fiction interpretors which is only good if you play text games.

calibre, goldwave, etc.

Dropbox, easy table, again most of these probably are not needed.

The emoticons may be need as well as report simbols but depends.

Golden curser maybe.

zoom, vlc, skype, teamtalk.

timezoner and toolbars explorer.

Out of those, I could slim that down to vlc, winamp, zoom, windows app essentials etc.

On systems I don't use bar for admin addon updater, and windows essentials, report symbols and emoticons are all I have.

Re: NVDA launches itself after UAC is dismissed, even if it wasn't running before that

Petr Řehák

Hello,

I believe that this stems from NVDA being launched via the Ease Of Access feature of Windows. When you uncheck NVDA there and still let it start on and after the logon screen this should no longer happen. You can get there by entering „control /name Microsoft.EaseOfAccessCenter“ into the Run dialog box or by going to the Control Panel of Windows (run „control“) and searching for „Ease Of Access“ in your language there. Then navigate to something like „Use your computer without a screen“ and then Tab until you reach the NVDA check box in this section.

Best regards,

Předmět: [nvda] NVDA launches itself after UAC is dismissed, even if it wasn't running before that

Hello all,

Before eventually filing a ticket, I want to share my problem here. Maybe someone else has also encountered this previously and a solution is already available.

These days I had to reinstall my computer and all of its programs due to an SSD failure. I usually use an installed alpha version of NVDA as my daily driver. This time however, I did not had an installer for the latest alpha snapshot and initially I installed v2021.2 and then upgraded to the latest alpha snapshot via its manually downloaded install package.

Today I've noticed a peculiar behavior of NVDA, which did not occur before the reinstall. And that is: if NVDA is not running and an UAC prompt appears on the screen, after the "Yes" or "No" button is activated, NVDA will launch itself. This should not happen, but it does. Does anyone know why is this happening and is there a solution to this problem?

My copy of NVDA is configured to run after I log on and on UAC and other secure screens.

The problem occurs even without any add-ons.

I even tried removing the "nvda.ini" file from both the "AppData\Roaming\NVDA" and "Program Files (x86)\NVDA\systemConfig" directories (the file is the same), but that did not help.

In "Program Files (x86)\NVDA\systemConfig\addons", there are no add-ons.

Test environment:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 Pro version 21H1 (build 19043.1237), 64-bit, in Bulgarian with all locale settings set to "Bulgarian".
  • NVDA version: alpha-23838,ea5effee.
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-9400F at 2.90GHz.
  • RAM Memory: 16.00GB.
  • Graphics: MSI GeForce GTX-1050TI Gaming X 4G, 4096MB dedicated memory, desktop resolution set to 1920x1080.
  • Sound Card: Realtek ALC892 at Intel Cannon Point PCH.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Quentin

I got the following back from her last night and have asked her to try it in the next few days. It sounds like it done the trick.

Her reply is below.

Wahoo Gene you are a miracle worker!
I just thought after getting those emojis working that I should open a word document and test out my music symbols.
And guess what,  they all read now!!!
This is huge as it means I can use the rhythm symbols plus letters to create my own music short hand to write out info from kids workbooks that have otherwise been completely inaccessible.
Thank you so much for your help.

Well, have done that, so let’s test it.
Here comes an emoji
👍
Well I chose the above emoji in faith that it had worked and it now reads thumbs up!
Wahoo, pass my thanks on to Quinton.

I am thinking this one is done in outlook?

Should I still get her other info or just leave it as it sounds like the problem is fixed I will know more in the next few days.

1. Press NVDA+control+g to open options
2. Press CONTROL+SHIFT+TAB to the "Advanced" category.
3. Press spacebar to acknowledge the "I understand...." warning.
4. Press TAB until the focus is on "Use UI Automation to access Microsoft Word Document Controls".
5. Press SPACEBAR to check this.
6. Press ENTER.

Now emoji's should be read correctly.

She said when some one sends her a email with emojis in it they are spoken out correctly but not in the part where you type stuff inserting a emoji then reading back the email to send it that is where the problem is. She does not have a braille display she is hearing it.

Apparently I have seen 2 or 3 others on the list with the same problem in the thread.

However, if you are using a speech synthesizer that supports speaking emoji descriptions natively, you may wish to turn this off.

Note that manually added or edited character descriptions are saved as part of your user settings. Therefore, if you change the description of a particular emoji, your custom description will be spoken for that emoji regardless of whether this option is enabled. out shortly.

The below is what she said and I have no answer about saying emoji
before it.

But, weirdly, when I select them and read back over that spot it just
says 12 where each one is.  Then if I send the e-mail and someone
replies I can read them if I scroll down to my original e-mail.  Emojis
from other people are reading fine.

Is this a setting I need to change in NVDA or is it something to do with
my rather outdated 2013 version of outlook.  And can I set NVDA to say
emoji when it reads one so I know it isn’t part of the text if it is a
bit random.

Re: must have NVDA add-ons

Not that I don't think the discussion of various add-ons, and why people like and use them isn't a great one to have, but "must have" is entirely subjective.  There are tons of add-ons that are specific to environments that many of us will never operate in/under.  Those can be must-have for those who do, but completely irrelevant for those that don't.

This being said, discussion of any and all NVDA Add-Ons is on-topic and pertinent to the group.

Hi guys

Has any one had the following problem using outlook? when after
inserting a emoji when you go to read back what you have typed in the
email it says 12 instead of the name of the emoji.

They are using windows 10 not sure which version yet and to make sure I
am going to get her to update nvda she might already have I will find
out shortly.

And can I set NVDA to say
emoji when it reads one so I know it isn’t part of the text if it is a
bit random.
