Re: addon updater

Theres no problem accessing the site with a browser, the problem is via check for updates menu item in NVDA only

Fortunately, however, it seems to be working now, without any intervention on my part

So god knows whats going on

But access the site how?  My question is whether the updater add-on itself may have a problem because of the expiration while a lot of people would have no problem doing so with a browser.

Hi,

The author of Add-on Updater himself (I) have experienced this once, and the workaround seems to be to visit addons.nvda-project.org website using your preferred web browser. If NV Access server was offline, chances are that folks would have reported problems with not only Add-on Updater, but NVDA update checks as well, affecting folks who do ask NVDA to check for updates every day. Since it doesn't affect everyone, chances are that the computer (more specifically, the operating system) might be assuming that the web trusts soon to expire security certificate without realizing that it isn't - connecting to websites flagged as secure (such as NV Access website) would inform Windows that the web is safer again.

Cheers,

Joseph

Firefox doesn’t rely on Windows for updating certifications.  Other browsers rely on Windows to be current with that information.  I’ve read more than one article that says that for people using old versions of Windows, Firefox is a way around the problem.  It isn’t clear to me, I’ve seen a little contradictory information, how old the version of  Windows needs to be before the problem occurs..

Hi,

I found the vocalizer for nvda from Tiflotecnia company, from this website

https://vocalizer-nvda.com/store

but from this page, seems like no price is mentioned for this product. Also, the copyright written at the bottom of the page is 2013, now its 2021.

The price is 90 EUR.

So, if I continue buying this thing, will it work with my nvda 2021? Or this is it's old website and this product is migrading to new website and I am missing something here?

The Vocalizer Expressive is already compatible with NVDA 2021.2 and will keep compatibility with new versions...

I know the code factory  version, but unfortunately for that version, it's auto language switching is not good. It doesn’t have the switch language base on the Unicode character feature. Meaning for the auto language to work, the document or webpage must be set up with correct language tag. So if for example in notepad, auto language switching will not happen even if I am reading text in another language.

Plus, the code factory version does not have the compact or low quality voices, I prefer that voices rather than the high quality/premium voices, just like on the phones.

So this vocalizer from Tiflotecnia has that things that I want. So wwanting to know whether it will work or not on latest nvda.

Yes, it works with actual version and will keep working with all new versions of NVDA.

Is the voices updated too?

No, not yet.

We plan to update them to version 2, but not yet a scheduled date...

It doesn’t matter if it crashes on exit, it won’t hurt anything but that is what’s happening.

If you want to restart the program, trying to shut it down if it isn’t working properly, use the command to run the program, control alt n.  That tries to close the program if it isn’t working properly and perhaps has partly crashed, and it will then restart the program if it can.  But NVDA q is the unload command and isn’t supposed to restart the program.

If NVDA started by itself after NVDA key q, that’s because the program wasn’t shutting down properly.  It was crashing on exit and it was restarting because it is supposed to restart if it can after a crash.

Hi, I just noticed that when I choose restart after pressing NVDA + Q, NVDA seems to exit and then not start up again on its own. I have to press the shortcut keys to start NVDA again. I've tried this with all the add-ons disabled as well and tried restarting my pc. Also, I don't hear a sound for when NVDA exits like I used to. I have the options ticked in settings to play sounds for when it starts and exits.
Thank you for any help on this.

I tried searching for this in the forum, but could not find the answer, so I'm sorry if this has been asked before...

I am getting the error as well when checking for add-on updates from tools. I am in East Texas in the US.

Its semi inconsistant, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

If its a cert is nvda itself needing an update with the right certs or something.

It can't effect a load of us and not others randomly.

Its on several systems I have and 2 networks, I even ran a copy without anything and its all its effecting.

Not only get an error checking for addon updates, also checking for NVDA updates pops up the same error message

Cheers,

Joseph
