Hello,

I applied the mentioned fix, and while the addon updater checks for updates, and I believe NVDA does the same, they do not say there are no updates. All I see in that case is a close button. I am able to infer that there are no updates obviously, but from previous experience wouldn't it say, "there are no updates"?

I use MS team with NBDA in my workplace to conduct classes regularly. it is easily accessible. you can get help by searching for "using ms team with screen reader" in your search engine and the result that comes from microsoft help is very much useful in using the app. thank you.

Re: addon updater

Hi. I’m using Windows 10 pro Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1237) and
NVDA 2021.2. I manually installed Add-on Updater 2021.10 and implemented
the python console fix. I did figure out that you had to press ENTER
followed by ESCAPE from within python console to complete the process. I
didn’t receive the errors when I checked for updates manually for both NVDA and
add-ons before and after following the suggested instructions, so I don’t know
if I was actually impacted.

Re: addon updater
Thierry Van Doorne
Hi everyone,
I also experienced the same problem. Following the steps, as suggested by Joseph my problem is also fixed. Replacing the addon updater and typing the command in the consul worked. Also the RSS-addon was affected. None of the NVDA group feeds didn't work propperly. This has all been solved! Thank you Joseph!

Re: Add-on Updater 21.10 (mandatory update) released
#addonrelease
Well I submitted the python fix of yesterday to the forum and this worked on my secondary network. Saying that a lot on that forum, well some of them, aren't that smart, there are a loot of crack hackers but there are also a lot of kids or at least adults with kid brains that just do and say whatever. I don't respond to much of it anymore. Obviously that forum is where all the audiogame tests and stuff come from so I do have a presence on there, but there are people that look for trouble so I mostly keep it down.

Hi, I think I know the forum mentioned... Please tell folks there that, in this case, downgrading may make things worse as the fix is unlikely to be backported to older releases. Cheers, Joseph

Re: Do the Alpha builds of NVDA do any update checking for stable production builds?
Thanks Joseph.
I strongly suspected this might be the case because alpha channels (no matter what they're called) often have specific exceptions to other channel updating rules. But having it confirmed means I know what I need to do after installing an alpha build if I want to go back to the regular release channel: uninstall the alpha and reinstall the latest release channel or, possibly, release candidate. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. ~ John F. Well using the python import line mentioned yesterday has fixed both so maybe thats another alternitive to that also. On a forum I use audiogames they are having issues with some addons and a few people think to just downgrade nvda so who knows.

Re: Do the Alpha builds of NVDA do any update checking for stable production builds?
Hi, NO - alpha builds will check for alpha build updates. Think of it as Firefox Nightly versus other channels where Nightly will check for new NIghtly builds whereas stable builds will check for stable updates. This is intentional as alpha builds are designed to house latest tested changes, but sometimes it is the testing ground for new and changed technologies. Cheers, Joseph

Do the Alpha builds of NVDA do any update checking for stable production builds?
I know that if you use beta or release candidate versions of NVDA, these actually do the expected checking and if a new stable version is available they'll ask you about downloading them.
Yesterday I uninstalled the latest stable version of NVDA to install an alpha version to assist in testing the issue with updating NVDA itself and Add-On Updater. But I have no idea if it checks for new stable versions or not, as alpha software can sometimes be quite different than beta or release candidate in terms of functions like this one, so I thought I'd ask, as several of the regulars must know. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. ~ John F. Update Checking Error for NVDA and Add-On Updater - Root Cause Identified, Workaround Given, Problem solved in 2021.3
#adminnotice
You know, I have said before, that members of groups such as this have an obligation to be proactive and actually pay attention to the titles of the traffic coming through at the very least.
There is (or was, if you applied the workaround) an issue with getting NVDA to update or Add-On Updater to fetch updates on a selected, but large, subset of machines that was directly linked to a couple of factors, very clearly identified by Joseph Lee in this message: https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/message/88179 sent yesterday. Shortly before that, he gave a workaround in this message: https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/message/88175 This issue is resolved. Everyone who is a regular here (and that's many who are still commenting) should know it's resolved, and how to resolve it, if you review group messages, in topics dedicated to this very issue, before posting about it again. Please, please, start doing that. Questions about this cannot and will not be allowed to go on for days when the answers have already been provided for those that need them now, and it's been clearly stated that the underlying issue will be corrected as of NVDA 2021.3. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. ~ John F. Hi guys
I have been asked the following question about how well nvda works with Microsoft teams. I do not use it so can not comment.
Are there others on the list who do and how well does it work with it.
I did not see a add on for it so is one not required? unless I missed it on the website. I see there is one for zoom.
I note there is a lot of shortcuts you can use with it so I guess nvda will work with it.
any bugs to look out while using it or is it pretty good.
I did come across this link and teams at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-a-screen-reader-to-explore-and-navigate-microsoft-teams-47614fb0-a583-49f6-84da-6872223e74a0?ui=en-us&rs=en-ie&ad=ie <https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-a-screen-reader-to-explore-and-navigate-microsoft-teams-47614fb0-a583-49f6-84da-6872223e74a0?ui=en-us&rs=en-ie&ad=ie>
Any help would be good to feed back.

I wonder if the server has a limit of how many concurrent connections? That would cause random breakages.

Well, it looks like there may be a server issue or something. I just went into NVDA menu, then tools and then to check for add-on updates. It immediately came back with an error.
I'll check later I guess.

The SAPI 5 version, or it used to work for me.
On Monday, I’ll turn back on auto language switching and see if it still works.
I have both the add-on and the SAPI 5 versions.

Thanks Steve, then I'll ask CodeFactory what to do because it doesn't work for me. Just one more question... do you mean the SAPI5 version that you can use with other screen readers or the addon for NVDA which contains Vocalizer voices as well? Thanks. Bye. Hello, rather forcing blank to be changed in pronunciation using a regular expression dictionary entry might be useful. ^ is the beginning of line in regular expressions. $ is the end of line in regular expressions. * in regular expressions means 0 or more of the previous character or pattern So: ^ *$ should match a line with just spaces in it. ( note there is a space between the ^ and the * , also note you might want to turn on all punctuation to read my descriptions above, I can't be sure on this computer how much of NVDA reads of the above special characters.
