I know they do keep it more or less updated a little more often.

Re: Weird Abbreviation Processing Mid-word?
To be honest while not exactly that issue, I can get weird issues from time to time on here, or other systems I run. Some persist after a restart, some will persist till I reinstall either the program or windows. And in a lot of cases they never make it online. Or they can be completely unrelated. I once had an issue on a system I was working on which looked like mangled drivers, a virus and a windows issue. The sound drivers were fixed, a windows issue could be fixed if it was that bad with a reload. But in the end it boiled down to a defective wifi access card. Most of the issues went away with its replacement. So yeah check everything including the buttons on the case I guess.

I also get the same result using Eloquence from Kurzweil. This has been true for me for the past year or so with NVDA. I haven't a way to cure the problem. Hopefully someone here will have some ideas. Thanks for posting. Dennis

I didn’t mention using space, not control space, to select the item you are
on. I should have mentioned it. I didn’t because I think it is a
more natural movement to keep your hand on the arrow keys and just up and down
arrow than to move to the space bar and press it. But people may do
whatever they wish.
However, space should be used in this case, not control space.
Control space is how you would select an item if you want to select more than
one item and not select items that are all next to each other. Space
by itself will select the item you are on and will unselect any other item
or items you might have selected earlier. And space only selects an
item. If it is already selected for some reason, you won’t accidentaly
unselect it. Control space selects an unselected item and unselects a
selected item.

As you describe the problem, we don’t yet know if NVDA has anything to do
with it. Have you tried using browsers or other programs that present
problems with another screen-reader?

Computer Hi
good people: NVDA does not work properly on my computer. This happens most often, when I am on the internet. It is some times very difficult for me to launch a browser. I use mozilla firefox, but many times it is very difficult for me to launch it. I try running the com registration tool, but it doesn't change anything. Added to that, when I launch microsoft word, it takes ages to launch and start reading anything. And even the reading is so slow. Is there a way of getting around this problem? I use an old version of the program, which is the 2020 release. The latest version is not compatible with an AdOn I use with my preferred speech synthesizer. Hope to get some help. I also want to find out the use of a portable copy of NVDA. I've never tried it out. Can it help me in this situation I've just spelt out. Kind regards. Ibrahim.

I’d be interested if others have this problem. It is so odd that it
may be caused by something that isn’t a general problem.

you checked your own NVDA dictionaries? This one is so bizarre that
it seems almost impossible for it to be the synth. But if it is the synth, trying to work around it with dictionary entries would be a stopgap measure. Re: Check out this new video to find out how to use the NVDA find dialog in PDF
Gene
You can have Adobe open documents you follow links to online, but I was
explaining why I use Edge instead of Adobe.
I don’t know how many people know this, but you can open files on your
machine or external hard drives or anywhere else you would open them in your
browser. Use control o for the open file dialog and open the file just as
you would in a word processor.
Of course, you can compare opening files or web pages using Edge and Adobe
and see if you like one more.

Hi, Regarding Facebook, are you talking about not being able to use the emoji panel when composing new messages/posts? Note that for this thread, I will assume Windows 10 unless this is on a Windows 11 system. Cheers, Joseph (the author of Windows App Essentials add-on)

NVDA and emoji keyboard
#addonrelease
JinYoun
Hi, I was just curious if others have the same issue as me with the emoji keyboard. After installing the windows app essential add-on, I've been able to use the emoji keyboard by pressing windows + . on this forum and in emails, but cannot get it to work in facebook or on Sero. When I tab down and use the arrow keys to browse, it closes the emoji keyboard.😕
If someone could teach me the correct way to use the emoji keyboard using NVDA that would be so appreciated.🙏 Thank you

Weird Abbreviation Processing Mid-word?
Clement Chou
Anyone else using Code Factory's Eloquence and Vocalizer getting
abbreviations incorrectly being processed? For example, look at the text below. The original says: Line 6 Marketplace But Code Factory's Eloquence translates this as: Line March 6th ketplace Is there a way to delete these dictionary definitions so I just get it the way it's supposed to be? Thanks.

Technically is it possible to have nvda assume first row and column of excel file as header?
William
Hi all,
As what my subject has stated, I wanna know is it possible to have nvda to assume first row and column as header, so that even if we have not set the column and row header using nvda shift c or r, nvda can still report the header? Thanks William

I’ve seen very odd behaviors that seem to have no relation to the screen-reader and are corrected by closing and running it again. Its happened to me once in a great while that I couldn’t copy and paste text until I closed and ran the screen-reader again. When it comes to odd problems of this sort, just doing these things, regardless of how logical they seem will likely solve such problems.

Yes, I definitely closed google Chrome several times but for some reason did not even think about doing that with NVDA this time around.

Re: MS Access
Richard,
It was true for me, and my coworkers (who were sighted as I am), as well back when I was a DBA and/or doing embedded SQL coding in the 1990s. Once in a very great while if I needed a really "quick and dirty" result I'd run an SQL query within the GUI, which has its own version of the command prompt/power shell in every RDBMS I've used in the 1990s and beyond. It was just much easier to formulate the SQL, check it, then check the data set results you got by feeding it in via the command line and looking at the resulting output files of records. We were particularly careful to always create SELECT statements with the same selection logic that we were going to use to delete records. That way we could see precisely what was going to be nuked before nuking it. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The ignorance of one voter in a democracy impairs the security of all. ~ John F. Re: MS Access
Richard Bartholomew
Not MS Access oriented but from the more corporate DB side of things, eg Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL etc, when I was working as a production support DBA (admittedly a few years ago now!), whilst my seeing colleagues used GUIs for quickly seeing the health of DBs from the locks/space usage/general performance side of things, for 'serious' work, like me, they used the command line and raw SQL to get the job done efficiently.

I actually need to take the time to go through the tutorials TheeQuinn has put out there just for my own curiosity, but the tiny (and it was very tiny) bit that I picked up from the page and comments suggests that it focuses on the GUI for MS-Access. And as the first, and only resource that addresses that for screen reader users, all I can say is: Bravo!
