Re: Navigation similar to the “vertical navigation” voiceover feature?

Hello,
Essentially, what you want to be able to happen is to have NVDA check the dimensions of the current object and then move in one of the ordinal directions until a new object is discovered beyond the current objet. I could see this being a slightly modified object removed type method.

For example oif current object upper left corner is
x=40, y=60 and its size is 60x40

Pressing down arrow Should look for an object near x=40, y=100

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, I will give that use screen layout option a try but since the table isn’t constructed as an HTML table when I look at the source code, I’m not sure NVDA will be able to ascertain its layout. I agree a link would be helpful but this is actually an internal task board for our software development team at work so it isn’t publicly shareable. It’s the Jira platform though which appears to be a pretty popular agile project package so perhaps I can find a sample board that is publicly shareable. I will poke around. Thanks again.

I haven't tried this and I doubt it will work but you can try turning on use screen layout when supported. Its in browser settings. If it isn't checked, check the check box and activate the o.k button.

NVDA and Online Editing Services

Hello NVDA Group,
I am a digest subscriber. My interest is in using one or two online
editing services: ProWritingAid and or Hemingway Editor.
One can paste text into either tool, read the document, but grammar or
spelling errors are noted with a different color when they occur.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to access a read colors feature that
might be standard on NVDA or Narrator?
I have googled NVDA color filters, Narrator color filters, and come up
with zilch.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: Goldwave NVDA question

I didn’t ask the question properly.  I should have said, is this for a situation where Gold Wave doesn’t know a screen-reader is being used and therefore doesn’t automatically go into screen-reader mode?

Hello,
As well as muting speech with nvda key and s you could try from your start button press windows key and in the edit box type goldwave setup.
This takes you to a selection of different settings that aren't in goldwave itself.
At the bottom of that screen is a setting to
Force screen reader mode.
Try checking this and see if it makes a difference.
I know this works with jaws but aren't sure about nvda.
Tab then to save and press enter.
Hope this helps although I am using the latest add on for goldwave and running windows 10 and don't have the same problem but it may be worth fiddling with those settings to see if any make a difference.
Remember to restore speech having muted press nvda key and s twice.
Kind regards,
Dennis huckle.

I am using the latest NVDA and the latest Goldwave add on with a new 14 inch Dell laptop. When I have a file open in Goldwave and hit play, nvda tells me what file I am playing. That of course makes editing difficult when using one soundcard. I've only had this happen on this laptop. Normally when I hit play, I just hear the word play or I just hear the audio start playing. Why is this happening on the laptop and how can I stop it. Thanks so much. Side note, at my advanced age it seems harder to learn a new keyboard lol!!!! Thanks for reading and thanks for your help.

acapela 1.7 not working

Josh Kennedy <joshknnd1982@...>

Hi

The acapela voices 1.7 addon is not working with nvda 2021.2. I have 14 days left in the trial. I installed the engine and the Calibri voices. When I choose acapela I get no speech and have to restart NVDA. And when you try to install voices from the addon itself it wants you to download 1.6 addon version which is not compatible with 2021.2. I contacted acapela but got no response. If these voices won’t work I guess I can’t buy them and it says I have 14 days left in my trial so they should be working.

Hi Joseph,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, while the information on the page appears like a table for sighted users, it is not constructed as an HTML table so those navigation keys won’t work. I went into chrome Dev tools and manually added some aria role tags to make it behave like a table and it definitely helps, but the way they’ve arranged this thing is really strange so it’s hard to make it perfect. I might write myself a chrome extension to at least make it partially accessible. Thanks again.

Have you used the latest add-on before?  I suspect the add-on is causing the problem.  You can stop speech if you don’t need it for what you are doing with the command NVDA key s.  To restore speech, issue the command twice.  You can just hold the NVDA key and press s twice.
