Re: Windows 7 query

Gene

The message may simply be flyout.  Flyout is a term used to indicate some sort of problem or problems.  I don't have the technical knowledge to describe it further.  Try opening the item in all possible ways.  That is, using the single left click, double left click, and right click options.  See if it opens correctly with any of them.

My network connection in Windows 7 only opens correctly if I use the left single click option when in the systray dialog.

Using latest nvda, and the user promoted section, otherwise known as the sys
tray has a message to review for a possible problem. when this is opened it
says action centre fly out. However none of the options normally on there as
far as nvda is concerned can provide access to the message itself.

On using nvda/B there are other  messages on the screen but no way to access
them, and the screen will continuously repeat over and over until its
stopped which suggests to me that its not working correctly, as normally
nvda would in fact stop at the bottom.
Any ideas on how to see this elusive message which windows obviously wishes
to hide from me?

I run a snapshot just about all the time.  I do not have such a delay.  I'm saying that your results may be correct for your machine or machines but we have no way of knowing whether your results refer to a large number of machines or a small number.

Well, its only on exit from nvda so maybe you have not noticed. You need to
rrun a snapshot to hear the sound.

As its exiting, a slight delay in doing so is probably not going to be an
issue.

You can only say that they are present in your experience as a single user

Re: a new group for the discussion of BARD.

Brian's Mail list account BY <bglists@...>

Following the long tradition of talking to ones self on this list, I looked this up as I should have done before and got the following, which is probably of little use if you do not live in the USA.

What Is BARD
So, you heard about this "BARD Talk" thing and figured you'd check things out. Everyone should brush up on their history, right? Hook up with these BARD Talk people and top up your intellectual gas tank. You'd always liked William Shakespeare after all, and he wrote that really great story. Romano and Julianna or something. Yeah, Bard Talk, now that's a good thing.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but don't expect any stimulating (or not so stimulating) discourse about The Bard on BARD Talk. Seriously, while Shakespeare won't be the common fare in these environs, you may indeed be able to fill up your gas tank here, and join the rest of us who hang out here as we traverse the growing and yes, stimulating, world of BARD.
Here's the short of it: BARD, as it applies here, stands for, "Braille and Audio Reading Download" Program." BARD Talk, specifically the BARD Talk web site, is all about helping people use and enjoy the BARD program which is a product of the NLS (national Library Service), and the LOC (Library Of Congress). In general, BARD is all about downloading digital talking books produced by the NLS. IN particular, BARD is the web site sponsored by the NLS that offers qualified patrons the means to search the catalog of tens of thousands of titles, including magazines, download this material, and then experience the pleasure of reading in a way that has never existed for blind people.
Only patrons of the NLS are qualified to access the BARD site and download books and magazines. If you're not a patron of the NLS, you should go to the following site to determine your eligibility. If you believe you meet the criteria, you'll next need to go to this site to identify your local lending library.
Finally, contact that library by phone, email, fax, or mail, and request an application for service. If you want, you can simply call this number: (202) 707-5100, or toll-free 1-800-424-8567. You can also visit the PDF index to find a form you can complete online.
Qualified patrons are entitled to download, or receive through the mail, any book or books and magazines available in the collection. There is no cost to the individual, and a state of the art digital talking book machine will also be provided at no cost. If you are new to this, it may seem overwhelming, but in a very short time, you'll find the program is very user friendly, and more importantly, there are many people who can help you. Consider joining the BARD Talk online discussion list if you have questions of any kind. You need not be a patron yet, or you may even be a family member or friend of someone who might qualify. To join this list, simply send a blank email to: bardtalk-subscribe@yahoogroups.com. You'll receive an email message requesting confirmation, and then you'll be a member of the growing community of excited people who use and enjoy the BARD and NLS program.

Yes we have tried this one, and although it works it does not seem as intuitive as the old revo was.
Seems a bit sluggish as well to me.
It has been mentioned here already as it can uninstall the 64 bit installers which revo cannot.
The new revo really does need some work on accessibility, as there seems to be none at all at the moment. How could they get this so wrong.

Hi all. I just wanted to give a revo uninstaller alternative that is mostly accessible, but Revo runs better on windows 10. It is called Bulk Crap uninstaller. The website is below. There are many options you can change to automate tasks so you do not need to deal with inaccessible selections and also changes that make the interface more accessible, like, enabeling check boxes to uninstall multiple programs with one action. You need to enable the look for junk registry and left over files in options though. I would not suggest this program be used with new computer users. Revo is much more stable but if you want to give this a shot see below.

Also, evidently you are using another screen-reader now. When you press enter on the file to run it, does any message come up that you have to respond to before the talking installer runs?

Hi, I am trying to download NVDA 2016.3 to my laptop. Every time I try, it downloads, and then a dialog box says that it has downloaded successfully and will be installed, and then nothing happens. I tried a lot of times, and waited for a really long time, and nothing happened. The first time I tried to download it, I had to do something mid-download, so I tried to press cancel and it didn't work, so I quit NVDA. Could this be related? I am currently using NVDA 2016.2.1, and I have Windows 8.1 on my laptop.

What should I do?

Re: NVDA 2016.3

Brian's Mail list account BY <bglists@...>

I think sometimes one finds that this happens. I'm not sure why myself, but I found that downloading it from the same place manually, then making it a portable version, and using that to create an installed version came up and said there was an existing installation and it worked fine.
The auto update also occasionally fails on snapshots in this similar way.
This seems particularly so on xp machines though. It seems to lose its way somehow.
My thoughts were that this was something recent, but as my xp is modified to still get updates then I may just be not always running xp as others are who have not done the hack to the registry.

One thing that is still happening with nvda though is that if you run Outlook Express for email and have several identities, sometimes the switching to a new identity, will cause the program to not work correctly. If you remove nvda though and run it you never get this issue, which is, I think some kind of memory issue. However I simply restart OE and all is well again till the next time. The fact that this behaviour is still in the hacked version of Outlook express I use on 7 and 10 suggests its not nvda, but could be the way it hooks into the program and some undesired behaviour occurs due to that.

Re: NVDA and XP

Actually this is probably more to do with the way the other programs crash and lock up the processor time than nvda. I often find if you open task manager,w which might take a while you find nvda works inside it and a look down the list shows, for example firefox at 99 percent of processor usage.
Since the recent addition of the so called intelligent multi processor support in Firefox, I've noticed that this can happen on single core machines. It is hard to pin down though which is probably why it still does it occasionally.

XP has not got as clever a recovery routine as the later windows has either.

an accessible alternative to Revo Uninstaller

Robert Kingett <kingettspeaks@...>

Hi, Gene,

I did uncheck the date and then had to go to descending and checked that. It worked. Thanks.

Subject: [nvda] unchecking "grouped by" in thunderbird

Hi, everyone,

I came across "grouped by" in thunderbird. How do I uncheck it now? I
tried hitting enter to uncheck it but that didn't work.

Thanks for your help in advance.
