I think I managed to open Word in Safe Mode (hold control and press Enter). It didn't announce it, though, so I can't be sure. It also still lagged, so I really can't be sure.

Re: thunderbird issue

Blake,

Also remember that you have the option (via the option button) to access the native Thunderbird column list and check or uncheck the various columns to make them show or hide.

Enter, when sitting on the entry for a given column, toggles the given state.  Up and down arrow moves through the list of columns.

It's cleaner just to hide those columns you don't want than to let them stay on display and it's easy to do.

Re: nvda and e-mails

Dennis,

I will presume you're using NVDA 2021.X, but I have no idea which version of Office, and in this case I presume Outlook, specifically, you are using.  That really can matter, so it would help if the version were to be offered.

nvda and e-mails

dennis huckle <denniswhuckle@...>

I have Microsoft office.

When using nvda to read e-mails unless I use the browser to read them in nvda, not jaws, lots of blank lines appear in the e-mail received.

Is there a way of reducing the number of blank lines whilst reading an e-mail.

Also some e-mails close when using nvda.

This, as mentioned doesn’t happen in jaws.

Any suggestions welcome.

Kind regards,

Dennis huckle.

Jarek,
As I wrote earlier, you need to move the "junk status" column down using the "down" button. In my past experience, moving the "junk status" column is all I have done with the add-on installed.

Re: Problem with NVDA and Applications Key

Hi,

A few things:

  • Which version of NVDA and StationPlaylist is the DJ using?
  • Is the DJ using latest version of SPL add-on (currently 21.10)?
  • Which encoder is the DJ using to connect to a streaming server?

The email list you speak of can be found here: https://nvda-spl.groups.io/g/nvda-spl

Note that I'm ending maintenance of SPL add-on next year - I'm looking for people who will maintain this add-on from 2022 onwards (looks like a reminder about this is in order...).

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Blake,

I downloaded and installed the addon Mozila enhanced, and then I found the button Down, and checked Deleted. Nvda in Thunderbird says 0 delete col.

Is it right?

Dne 08.11.2021 v 1:14 Blake Roberts via groups.io napsal(a):

Hi,
The solution is to use the NVDA add-on Mozilla Apps Enhancements. You can download it here:
https://nvda-addons.org/addon.php?id=5
After installing the add-on, do the following.
1. Open Thunderbird.
2. Press NVDAKey+h. A list of columns should come up.
3. Find the item labeled "junk status".
4. Tab to the "down" button.
5. Move the junk column down a few times. I myself move the junk column to the next to last column, causing 0 to be spoken before the date field. The 0 announcement is much less annoying there.

I suggest joining the Thunderbird group for any additional TB questions which you might have. It is primarily intended for screen reader users. Link to Thunderbird group:

Relevant email addresses such as how to subscribe are located at the groups.io link which I provided above.

Self-Produced AudioBook with NVDA

David Russell

Hello NVDA,

Thank you everyone for your responses on the feasibility of using NVDA
to self-produce an audio book. Human narrator sounds like the majority
opinion.
Thanks to the author who also shared of his experience in
self-producing an audio book for vision-impaired readers. I would use
the general public as my audience, but know unless one is established,
sales will likely be modest.
I may self-publish and let the eBook - rather than audio book, be the
medium for my authored story collection. If readers are sighted or
blind, their choice of means to read will be theirs alone.
Here in the U.S., my research indicates professional narration can
range from $100.00 USD to $400.00 per hour, USD, U.S. Dollars.

Thus, it seems more practical from an economic standpoint to choose
the non-audio path to publication. So be it. Thanks!

Hi,
The solution is to use the NVDA add-on Mozilla Apps Enhancements.

Subject: [nvda] say all not scrolling in word 365

Hello.

I had the believe that Microsoft Word 365 was to move the cursor along when using say all so that when control is pressed, the cursor should be at least at the line where speech stops.

But this is not happening. The cursor will not move with the speech, and will remain at the starting point of say all.

So if I start say all (NVDA +down arrow) desktop at the top of the document, I may be two pages down when I stop speech, and the cursor is still at the top of the document.

This makes editing incredibly tedious and conversom.

I am running the latest update to word 365, and NVDA 21.2

Also, focus moves navigator object is on, and carot moves review cursor is on as well.

This is only happening in word, and not in other editors or browsers.

Why is the cursor not following?

Thanks,

D C

I don’t mean to be unkind but such opinions aren’t usually helpful. My favorite Espeak voice might sound horrid and unacceptable to someone else. NVDA is equally responsive no matter what voice or dialect you use. I would just recommend experimenting with the language and variant that sounds most comfortable to your ears. Beyond that fifty people could respond, giving you a total of fifty different choices which may or may not be to your liking.
