win 10 power settings
Don H
Running latest version of Win 10 and NVDA 2021-2.
I have searched and searched for the check box to enable or disable fast startup and NVDA doesn't read it if it is there. Am I missing something?

Re: acapela not working on sign on screen with NVDA
Hmph, one reason not to get that software then. To be honest I have often wandered about getting something better than microsoft defender but have not done so. I have bgt programs, old visual basic programs and stuff microsoft chooses to detect as problematic. So I have excluded my data drive, and my 2 backups which are used for backups as well as several folders on my hard drive, mostly programs. So any blind game, or any blindness related anything is excluded because I just don't trust defender that much. Even with this done I have had to manually exclude and allow certain files through manually. And for now that works. Sometimes if I need to keep the backups in for a longer time than normal, I turn off protection completely, do my business then turn it back on again. The backups generally are not on for more than 10 minutes a day if that sometimes barely a minute or 2. I have no real trust for antivirus or anti malware software and if I could do without it I probably would. Thing is I know I need it, but its annoying enough that I have read several hacker articles to make it not work ever again. Every time its gotten bad I have seriously conciddered making it go away for ever! I have always managed to get round the issue in a round about way but even so I am glad its foollishness has not spread to my data drive. I guess if push came to shove I could say no to several older apps and that would be the end of it but when it hits a lot of software who knows. I have of course reported several apps when I had the last issues but doubt microsoft security ever read those as I never got any responce. There isn't anything going on anymore but I am to scared to test that theory. Plus my experience with microsoft has really make me mistrustfull of bits of it.

RC stands for release candidate. It will be released as it is as a
stable production version unless bugs are found that need correction. RC
releases are the releases before the production release and are the latest in
the development cycle before production releases.

the version of IBM-tts with the extra languages is on IBM's public ftp software site and you need filezilla to get at it well filezilla is easiest for me anyway and you can get filezilla from ninite.com ...

but if you are learning for the first time you may want more human sounding voices rather than a 20-year-old IBM-tts which is public domain because support for that old sapi4 product has long since ended. I guess you could use IBM-tts if you want to, after all, its free for the taking from IBM's public ftp site. Or you could buy vocalizer because it has Japanese voices also.

I was able to get the voices to work. I had to exclude the NVDA folder in %appdata% for malware bytes to not detect it as a virus. Sent from Kenny’s iPhone

Brett,
What HumanWare braille displays do you have? You could have a Brailliant BI as I do, but I don't want to assume. If your HumanWare display is a Brailliant BI, have you tried resetting the device by holding down the power button on the Brailliant for 10 seconds? In the device settings (the settings on the braille display itself, not NVDA), is the protocol set to HumanWare or OpenBraille? I would suggest trying to switch protocols on your braille display and/or resetting the device. Then see if NVDA can detect it. Blake

Did you reboot since this problem started? As with other odd problems
with no known solution, rebooting is one of the first things to try.

Hello,

have you tried restarting NVDA with addons disabled? An addon might interfere with the procedure of assembling your list of Braille display drivers. Are we talking about the list that you get when pressing NVDA+CTRL+a? Best, Felix Am Sa., 13. Nov. 2021 um 08:18 Uhr schrieb cisco <audiogamer2004@...>:

Hi. It seems that my list of Braille displays is missing several displays. Including my HumanWare displays. I have tried googling around but I haven’t found anything that has helped. I have tried removing NVDA a few times. Deleted my app data folder, and did a registry clean from C cleaner.
I don’t know if I have something corrupt. When I go to the help submenu to update nvda I get an error. Any help would be appreciated. bb

Re: new subscriber with braille display issues
Firstly what are your displays. Secondly, if you run a portable of the new nvda beta check for updates then rerun the older version it should fix it. There is an python console import command and an addon but others may have the information, its round 8 pm and I am to lazy to look for all that but its somewhere in the archive I think. From my cloud file backup the instructions are the following. nvda root certs issue If you paste that import line in that will fix it. Its got to do with expired certs and other complex things I forgot its fixed in latest betas of nvda. Do you have drivers for all your displays and are they installed. If neither of those work or they are to old, if you install brltty and all the usb libraries and run all displays in brltty mode or open braille mode I think its going to at least work. I haven't much experience but the local university gave me an orbit 20 to test. And the only way I was able to get it working at that stage was in brltty mode though I did use the native driver.
