Yep, just like another oS I use. Capslock once will enable it and capslock off will disable it. I have caps lock set as my keys for that OS’s screen reader as well and there is no conflict.

Hello, I apologize for my initial immature thoughts. I didn't know that NVDA keys are sticky keys. In fact, Microsoft did not set Caps Lock as a sticky key by default. This is the behavior of NVDA. I admit that it makes sense to include NVDA in the range of sticky keys. Nevertheless, it is not an unresolvable conflict with the idea I originally proposed. We can have an option to ensure that the sticky key mode takes precedence, and it is allowed to press the caps lock once to switch the uppercase state without using the sticky key. Thanks, I hope I made it clear.

I go into focus mode and read the conversations that way. Not the messages in the conversation as that cannot be read but in browse mode. Note, I am using the messenger app on windows, not the website.

Not sure if anyone here uses messenger.com for website.
When navigating through the conversation list the NEDA does not reading the name of certain person or group chat.
so to speak it was unlabelled.
Is there a way to mitigate this properly.

What proof is there that the more add ons that are running with nvda, the more resources it takes? Would this not be the case the more that is in core? I personally don't want nvda to become bloated, therefore I use the add ons to Taylor my experience to what I need it to be.

Greetings!

I would like to mention the insertion of two features into NVDA that I use a lot but I have had a lot of problems because these Add-ons need to be constantly updated due to Python innovations.

1. Added the possibility for NVDA to pronounce copy, paste, cut and select when manipulating texts or applications. There are 2 Add-ons that were developed for this but it would be very interesting if these functions were available natively in NVDA so we don't need to install this Add-on.

2. Inserting one more option in Dictionary preferences. It would be the option of creating Dictionaries for specific applications. There is already an Add-on for this as well but it would be very interesting if this functionality were built in natively in NVDA.

Because the less Add-ons we install the better the performance of NVDA.
And because I use it a lot, I can't give up these two features that I've been using for several years.

I appreciate if you can insert more of these two possibilities natively in NVDA.

I would not want my reader to say coppied and pasted all the time though.

Maybe some voice prompts could be replaced with a chime.

Speaking about chimes, I know it was unofficially done in the past but I'd like soundschemes for different functions of nvda and not just start, error exit and forms.

Maybe more actions could have a sound.

Maybe there should be a way to have sound schemes.

Unlike the audiothemes addon, etc this would be different folders in nvda sounds folder that would allow you to put in different sounds for different events in either wav, mp3 or ogg vorbis.

The sounds could be any length but you couldn't have a huge sound, so maybe something of 1 minute maximum would be enough or 2 minutes if you wanted it but it wouldn't need to be any more than that and a second minimum or whatever.

You could have different packs and so on.

For me nvda is like a blind os, like the keynote and keysoft were except I can use most of my windows functions.

So I think that would be nice.

I don't think much would be needed to make that work.

Hi. I have taken all of these steps and nothing has changed. HumanWare is not in the list of Braille displays even after installing the drivers. I think there is something wrong with my copy of NVDA or my PC is doing something weird with the system files. I have never had to install braille note drivers on other computers running NVDA.

Not in the last year or so.

So strange…

Hi,

I see. Humanware does have a page with a download link for the braille display driver: https://support.humanware.com/en-canada/support/braillenote_touch/using_your_braillenote_touch_as_a_braille_display

Basically, you would:

  1. Install the braille terminal driver from the site I linked above (although it says BrailleNote Touch, it is applicable to Touch Plus as well). You should install just the USB driver, not the JAWS driver.
  2. After the driver is installed, from Touch Plus, go to main menu (Home key), select Braille Terminal, then choose USB. Touch Plus will say, "Braille Terminal: USB".
  3. Connect the Touch Plus to the computer using the provided USB-C charging cable.
  4. Wait for Windows to finish installing Touch Plus.
  5. On the computer, press Control+NVDA+A to open braille display dialog, at which point you should see a HumanWare entry. You can use that entry or choose "automatic" to let NVDA detect the Touch Plus.

If things went well, you will see the contents of the screen on the braille display.

IMPORTANT: if you connect the Touch Plus without starting Braille Terminal, Windows will recognize Touch Plus as an Android device.

In case you didn't know, there is a dedicated list for BrailleNote users on Groups.IO where folks do discuss braille display connection questions from time to time: https://groups.io/g/braillenote

Hi Group,

Shortly after I upgraded to Windows 11, I have had an issue when trying to review items on the system tray.  I don't see all of them that should appear. somehow (and I don't think it was immediately after installation of Windows 11--but maybe a day or so later) all I see if 5 icons and when I get to the network icon, what seems to be happening is that for some reason I lose focus on the system tray and wind up on the taskbar.

I must have accidentally changed something in some manner to hide/conceal icons on the taskbar. So what are the proper settings that will display all the icons I want to see on the system tray? In particular, I cannot access the volume icon on  the system tray.   This issue occurs both with the Windows command Windows key + B and with the add on for NVDA which uses the JAWS similar keystroke NVDA + F11.

Re: BEEPS NOT OCCURING

Also, in the copy file progress dialog, if you select more details, you will not hear beeps. It is a toggle and you can TAB around the dialog to find it. If it says more details, you should be hearing beeps, because you are actually on less details. If you press space-bar here, you will hear speech say less details, which means that more details are actually showing.

Hello  ALL,

I don’t know what I have done but hear is my problem.

When pasting a large number of files from the clipboard to another location nvda used to beep in ascending notes to give me an idea as to how far this action progressed.

For some reason this doesn’t now occur.

In object orientation I set the progress bar to beeps but the result is the same.

Any help please as I prefer beeps to speech saying “two percent”.

Kind regards,

Ok to answer some of the questions.
I have rebooted several times. I have uninstalled several times. I have deleted my nvda folder under the app data. I have ran C cleaner and cleaned my registry after uninstalling NVDA.
I have used the run comm registration tool.
I have searched for braille note touch drivers for NVDA and haven't found anything that wasn't at least 3 years old or so.
I have a Braille Note Touch plus and I'm trying to use the USB connection. The autodetect has been tried several times.
Not sure if I have answered all of the questions. Hopefully you guys have some more ideas because I'm still seeing a basic list of braille displays.
Eco hito mdv lilly, papenmire seka, and no braille.
Thanks again for all of the help

These might be a few questions and suggestions that might help you:

Have you been using NVDA for long? If so, did this issue appear in 2021.2? or, have you just installed 2021.2 for the first time and got this error?
Have you installed the drivers relating to Humanware displays? I don’t know if there are any, but installing drivers might help your issue.

Hope these two things help.

Best regards.

Francisco.

Subject: [nvda] new subscriber with braille display issues

Hi. It seems that my list of Braille displays is missing several displays. Including my HumanWare displays. I have tried googling around but I haven’t found anything that has helped.

I have tried removing NVDA a few times. Deleted my app data folder, and did a registry clean from C cleaner.

I don’t know if I have something corrupt. When I go to the help submenu to update nvda I get an error.

Any help would be appreciated.
