ObjPad 16.10A is now live

Hi,

Thanks for reports from people, ObjPad add-on 16.10A has been released (fixing a critical issue that prevented the add-on from working correctly). The add-on can be found at:

Re: Missing spaces between words in PDF document

Sheri,

Actually, I ran this PDF document through Abbyyy Finereader and the OCR cured the spacing problem! So, I will have to ask the authors if this document was originally run through OCR to generate the PDF that was sent to me.

The OCR caused another problem that is not in the original: There are tables that contain multiple lines of text within each cell. Abbyyy Finereader put all of the text lines onto separate rows and this makes it difficult to make sense of the tables.

All the best,

Cearbhall

For what it’s worth, I usually find this when the text in a document has come through an OCR process.

Hi,

Does anyone know what causes some PDF documents to have words that are not separated by a space?

For example: “TheCitizensBoard issuesdocumentsabout organisingevents”

This line of text should clearly have a space between the words.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader under Windows 10 and NVDA 2016.3.

This is not new and I often find it. Can anyone explain why it happens or at least what I can do to advise authors on how to avoid sending out these badly structured documents?

Folks,

The easiest way to use the Amazon site is to use the Amazon access site

<https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ref=mw_access>
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ref=mw_access

There is a search field about two lines down from the top of the page. It
searches all of the amazon site. If you hit an item that says it is not
available for purchase on the amazon access site, just open the link in
another tab and proceed.

I have heard one report that the purchase buttons could not be activated
in
Internet Explorer 11, but they can be activated in Firefox.

Hi, all,

I will answer my own question.

The problem with Yahoo Mail it is simply tricky to use, to not say its inaccessible.

To change the password it's necessary to navigate to the "help" menu and then find the "My account" option.

The difficulty is that the menu buttons must be activated withe ENTER and the menu items MUST be accessed with TAB key. Arrows don't work, "k" don't work.

To worse things a little more, to activate the menu item, it's necessary to be in edit mode, not in browse mode. So, it's necessary to use NVDA+SPACE. I suggest to do this right before arriving at the ""Help" menu.

It's a mess, an accessibility nightmare.

When you know the file hasn't been corrupted, copy it somewhere else. Then copy it back to it's current location when it becomes corrupted. I suppose you could create a batch file so you could automate this but it appears that the real inconvenience is having to create all the settings again manually. That doesn't solve the problem of why the file becomes corrupted or how to prevent it but it would save a lot of time configuring NVDA repeatedly.

Also, I doubt this would help and you wouldn't be able to change any settings or add any but you could try making the ini file a read only file. I doubt that will stop it from becoming corrupted but it may be worth trying.

just to ask a question if i'm on a list that perhaps may already know, esp
Joseph.

The latest occurrence of this just happened last night and its like the
third or fourth time this has happened.
I'm using the anniversary update with nvda.
Occasionally nvda will just stop talking to me and when i restart either the
computer or nvda, i'm told the configuration file is corrupted.
I then have to go back and set every single one of my preferences again.
Any idea why, and how do i back up my configuration file so i do not need to
do this each time.
Thank you

Have a nice day everyone.

Having said that, I have not seen anything come into my system that is bad which has not been due to me being less than attentive. Luckily thus far they have only been key loggers attempts at Trojans jumped on by the Windows Defender etc. I also do a complete scan with a stand alone product every so often just in case.

The Windows firewall is adequate, though you may want to run something else. Ransomware is spread in the ways malware is generally spread. A firewall will not stop you from getting it. the question is, what did you do to get it in the first place and the other point is, you should have all files you don't want to loose backed up and stored somewhere not connected to your computer such as on an external drive not attached to your computer except when in use.

They cannot leave them alone, and whereas sighted users see the new layout, trying to guess this when you are a blind user is not that easy. I'll have a go later with s, but most other sites use landmarks and headings which generally seem to be fr easier to use.
