That depends on you. You can install the beta and put it into a different folder. Some people say you shouldn’t install over a copy. If you are testing for bugs. If you are using it just for your own purposes and don’t want to test for bugs then go ahead. If you want to test for them its not  a good idea.  If you are a beta tester you shouldn’t do it.  That way you can better test for bugs.  Bryan might have his own ideas. I say its up to you.

You're new, so will not have seen several previous conversations, but this is indeed a bug and it's been resolved with 2021.3.

I would, at this point, strongly suggest you just update to NVDA 2021.3beta2, as it's been working fine, fixes the problem, and will likely go to release candidate status shortly.  But even if you were to have issues with the beta and rolled back to 2021.2, what it fixes in regard to the update issue stays fixed, as it's external to NVDA itself and the fix made stays.

I can confirm it is a problem on the site.  I'm shown that an update to SPL add on is available but if I try to download it just errors out with no reason why given. I then tried going to the regular site for getting add ons and I got a different kind of error but still with no reason why. It did say they track these errors on their end so hopefully the problem will get fixed soon.  I'm also using NVDA version 21.2 stable version.  \

Re: Strange behavior of NVDA and Windows 10 at machine startup

Hi

The information you see on the lock screen is controlled through the Personalization sub-menu in the Settings app. (Windows+I).  Arrow down the list of categories after opening the Personalization sub-menu and press enter on “Lock Screen”.  You can choose what to display in the controls on this screen.  When my lock screen opens after start-up, I just press control and that puts me in the Pin number box and after entering that, my NVDA user profile loads..

Cheers

Re: NVDA 2021.2 - Error when checking for updates

I've always done "install over" installs with NVDA.  Every once in a very great while I might uninstall NVDA entirely, then reinstall, but that's very, very seldom.

I've never had an issue with install over installs with betas, and they are supposed to act exactly like the release candidate and actual releases do in terms of install behavior, and those always do their own install over updates.

Normally I wouldn't suggest installing a beta version as your "daily driver," but this is an exception.  It seems that the 2021.3beta2 has been quite unproblematic and it's the quickest way to solve the issue you're having and the solution will still be in place were you to reinstall 2021.2.

Hello there,

The same thing happens to me, sort of.

The only thing I can’t see is the weather forecast.

What I do is press escape two or three times until NvDA says secure desktop, and then, if you have a pin or password, log in with that.

The desktop copy of NVDA does load, I can confirm that.

best regards.

Francisco

My first questions is, is there any software that a blind highschooler can use in conjunction with NvDA to do their math work?

You can try the Access8Math addon to write Mathematical content.

Using alt+m, alt+l to insert LaTeX (or keyin LaTeX directly)and using alt+h convert to HTML document included Mathematical content(MathML)

For detailed instructions, welcome to refer to Access8Math github page

If you search YouTube for "learning NVDA" you will find about 8 videos.  These were produced by American Foundation for the Blind in association with NVDA.  The audio seems pretty good and covers basic aspects of NVDA.
There are several other videos on YouTube about using NVDA.

I only played with the attachment a little bit but I’m not sure it does anything more than the method for dragging and dropping already available in NVDA.

Yeah seems to have a nightmare with object navigation. At times I get an object has no location when using the review cursor and navigator to find the correct playlist.

Since it is electron I doubt it will work. I have not had any luck using this add on for dragging dropping  stuff, at all. Not to say it does not work, but for me it has worked maybe 1 time out of the 10 or so I’ve used it.

It seems that when I try to mark a playlist, then drop it into the relevant folder I get a can't drop here error. I am not sure if this add on will work with spotify playlists, but I will give it more of a road-test.

Orhan,

Just FYI, this add-on is compatible with 2021.3 and, in addition, does have help/usage information packaged with it that you can access via gaining focus the add-on in Add-Ons Manager (NVDA + N, T, A, Enter) then activating the Add-On Help button.

No, because there is nothing there in the message from member Eduardo Fermiano Luccas, which is in the group archive here:   and is the message that I presume all of us speaking about an empty message are referring to.

It has no content other than the quoted material, and one can see that when trying to copy or afterward when one pastes into something like notepad and no content is above, or below, the quoted material, which consists entirely of a quotation of your offering in message   and what you'd quoted from prior messages as part of it.
