How does NVDA make its GUI accessible
TheeQuinn Public
Good day everyone. I know that NVDA was made from Python that is why I am asking this question. I am trying out coding but the Python GUIs that I try do not seem to be accessible. I want to know how NVDA makes its GUI accessible.

Re: loss of hot keys
Yes, next time this happens try hitting ctrl left, right, alt left, right, windows, shift left right, capslock and tab. This wil cause the keys to unstick. I also reported this as well btw.

Re: NVDA Add-ons installation problem
I don't know what version of NVDA you have installed, but as a diagnostic step I'd suggest uninstalling it, and reinstalling. And on the reinstall use NVDA 2021.3beta.
If that doesn't solve it, then we'd have to start digging into file associations by file extension, which should associate files with dot NVDA hyphen add-on extension with NVDA itself, and that should happen as part of a successful NVDA install. -- Brian - Windows 10, 64-Bit, Version 21H1, Build 19043 The difference between a top-flight creative man and the hack is his ability to express powerful meanings indirectly. ~ Vance Packard

Re: install an addon for all users
Yeah, each user would have to run the portable nvda first, then get permition to install it on their systems. The only way I guess you could set that, would to have each user get admin rights on their account for that day you were installing them, set it up for one time, then once installing nvda was done allow nvda to install and run its own addons or simply allow nvda to always have admin permitions anywhere it runs. But yeah not sure. The only other way would everyone to have nvda that needed it then have the configuration set up and a user could import it but every user would have a slightly different configuration. The only other way would to have nvda installed on all systems with a standard configuration but everyone would have to customise it. However unless you could import one well not sure.

Hi.
Not sure how to spell this program's name but I would like its website please. The issue, my audioquest dragonfly red appeared a couple days ago. The unit is good though the cap didn't want to come off at first. The unit is good at 20% anything higher on headphones and its to loud. Its fully updated and it fully works and I like it. However it appears that if I stop using it for a second the first bit of the audio is slightly cut out like its gone into some saver mode or something. There is no way to configure it even though its got controls. I heard about this silence player that plays silence to the card so it never does this. I wouldn't mind this program so I can run it with this card. Unless there is another audioquest configuration utility I am missing I am not sure, everything is set correctly and power is set for maximum with all savings turned off at least while plugged in.

Hi, Sarah,
I taught my sister how to turn off speech and turn it back on too. In fact, I ask her if it would help to turn off speech. Since I’m living alone and am the only one who uses this computer, I don’t see a need to create a new profile for a sighted person. I just have them turn off speech if it helps them.

rofl I have had family need to use computers of mine before and honestly if they can't deal with speech at log on they can just not use my stuff. It's not that big of a deal.

I agree, I used to know how to configure a computer for a sightling. I forgot how to do it. I’m the only user who uses this computer. I like it when speech comes on when the computer starts up before I type in my logon password. I’m not worried about it. If a sightling had to use this system. I’d just tell him or her this is how it is. If I have to create a profile for you it will talk for me but you will have it so nothing talks for you.

And to be honest if you were working you wouldn't want that happening if you had shhared computers with the sighted. No one wants that to have speech on login or anything. In fact when I have speech running even at home or on another computer, People get annoyed because they want me to close it, or say, I had to reset the computer because it was talking to me so sightlings don't appreciate blindy software running on their system at any time so having it on login, just not a real option if its shared.

Hi Sarah,
Yes I believe AT Guys have the latest version available - I hope so, I just shared their Black Friday $10 off sale on it yesterday! https://www.atguys.com/store/index.php?main_page=page&id=21
In any case, I think you are buying the license, so at worst you could download the latest version from Code Factory and use the license details you bought (I haven't got Eloquence myself, so take that as my assumption rather than fact).
Quentin.

Yes, Code Factory released the updated Eloquence just before NVDA 2021 came out. You can find the new version (and the old) here: https://codefactoryglobal.com/app-store/voices-for-nvda/
For your interest, as well it being mentioned here in the group, I also included information about it in our In-process blog at the time: https://www.nvaccess.org/post/in-process-16th-july-2021/
Kind regards

Re: Strange behavior of NVDA and Windows 10 at machine startup
Yep. I sat right next to a deaf person during lunch, didn’t know this, thought she was being rude when she would not answer back at me. Tha’ts another store, but you are right.
I recently had to fix my mom’s computer, again, and left the screen reader on accidently; luckily she knows how to turn it off, still though. My sister and brother are used to it, but they were not at first and nor was my best friend of 20 years.
To the person’s question, I think there is a way to set up user profiles on windows to do what you need, but I’m not 100 percent sure. A quick bing search might be of help here.

I didn't realize that there were 2 checkboxes "Start NVDA after I sign in" and "Use NVDA during sign-in" in General settings to check, so I originally missed "Use NVDA during sign-in". Everything was find once I'd found the "Use NVDA during sign-in" checkbox. Louise
