Probably best if I get hold of a demo copy of a more recent Excel and see what happens. I’ll let you know how I get on.

I then suspect that Excel 2010 is to blame. I am running windows 10 professional with Excel 2016 and am able to navigate character by character in a cell while editing and hear them spoken. Hi Cearbhall,
I am afraid not. The strange thing is that I can edit in cells in Excel 201 and 2016 but not in Excel 2010. Are you running 32 or 64 bit windows? If 32 bit, try Excel 2010 on a machine running 64bit windows. I find editing in cells works.

I thought this had solved the problem last January but I was mistaken. Even with “allow editing directly in cells” and “hardware graphics acceleration” disabled in the advanced options I am still getting the floating balnked charcters as before.
I am running Excel 2010 under windows 10 with NVDA 2016.1
Any other suggestions?

Hi Chris,
I have experienced your issues with editing formulas in cells on my work laptop which is running windows 7 32bit and office 2013. However, I am on windows 10 on a 64 bit machine running excel 2016 and do not have this problem. I had similar experiences with windows 7 64bit that is, I was able to edit text in cells directly.
Try making the following changes. 1. From the advanced tab, disable allow editing directly in cells. 2. Disable hardware graphics acceleration again in the advanced tab. Pranav

Hi Has anyone encountered problems using MS Excel, in particular when using the VBA editor to write macros (I am using Windows 7), Office 2007. NVDA occasionally announces ‘blank’ where there are letters (this occurs mainly wen the letter follows an open bracket) and may also miss out entire lines of code when moving around using the arrow keys. This behaviour also occurs after pressing F2 to display a formula. Using the Tools/Options dialog,to configure the VBA editor, I have set font to Courier New Western and pointsize to 10 but NVDA announces it as Ariel 8 point.
Does anyone know of any work arounds or NVDA parameters I can use to prevent this behaviour from occurring?
Cheers Chris

it is a difficult way to do that, it is better to get a version of abbyy finereader. that programm can do that for you in the most easy way. a right click on the pdf you want to make it readable and make the choice for abbyy finereader. there you can make the choice to create a readable pdf. no difference if it is a smal or a big pdf. that is the way i do it. cheers paul otter

SELECT ALL OCR TEXT IN PDF
Heaven Botma <ehlbotma@...>
Dear Group
I recently downloaded the OCR add-on and tried to use it on a PDF file. It works well, but it only selects one letter when I press NVDA+F9 and it only copies one letter at a time. How does one select the whole document when the OCR is complete? Could you also, perhaps, send me a list of shortcuts for the OCR or a place where I can find them. Please note that I use the newest Adobe Reader. Thank you in advance. Regards Heaven Botma

Re: How to find specified font on word text?
Try the technique shown in this article on PCMag.com. You can use advanced find without replacing with anything, so if you know the text is a specific red you can select that specific red from the color picker. Brian

The first suggestion when you experience behavior that is almost right, but not quite, is to uninstall and reinstall the offending program. Brian

WXPython question of my project, crossposting
Haipeng Hu <hhpcomposer@...>
Hello,
Sorry for posting an OT message. Daniel Barich and I are planning a comprehensive braille music transcription software BrailleOrch. We make it open source, and will let it work with NVDA. I'm a blind composer but not a programmer, and Daniel is not a braille-specified programmer but just a Python programmer and braille music transcriber. We met the following problem in the edit window. Since NVDA was written using Python with WX, I'd like to ask this here. Hope anyone can help use. Daniel says: I'm trying to figure out how best to make the braille editing area for brailleorch in such a way that it can be read by screen readers. The StyledText control in wx does not provide reliable accessibility with NVDA. If we use a plain text box instead, then we can't highlight the errors using colors. -- Regards Haipeng

It won't be there when using push to talk, but PTT and voice activation are not mutually exclusive. More tips I've gathered from using this for years: * If you're using the default Windows Audio Session backend, you might not be able to hear some people. I'm not sure if this has been fixed by now. * If you ever switch your default sound device, or plug in a USB headset or something, restart TeamTalk if it's running. Then go into TeamTalk and check your audio device settings. They might have changed.
