Pity, because it also reads epubs, amongst other things.

format least of all.

I then suspect that Excel 2010 is to blame. I am running windows 10 professional with Excel 2016 and am able to navigate character by character in a cell while editing and hear them spoken. Having said that, I am willing to compare settings between my installation and yours but I don’t know of an easy way to do this.

I am afraid not. The strange thing is that I can edit in cells in Excel 201 and 2016 but not in Excel 2010. Are you running 32 or 64 bit windows? If 32 bit, try Excel 2010 on a machine running 64bit windows. I find editing in cells works.

I have experienced your issues with editing formulas in cells on my work laptop which is running windows 7 32bit and office 2013. However, I am on windows 10 on a 64 bit machine running excel 2016 and do not have this problem. I had similar experiences with windows 7 64bit that is, I was able to edit text in cells directly.

Try making the following changes.

1.       From the advanced tab, disable allow editing directly in cells.

2.       Disable hardware graphics acceleration  again in the advanced tab.

Has anyone encountered problems using MS Excel, in particular when using the VBA editor to write macros (I am using Windows 7), Office 2007.  NVDA occasionally announces ‘blank’ where there are letters (this occurs mainly wen the letter follows an open bracket)  and may also miss out entire lines of code when moving around using the arrow keys.  This behaviour also occurs after pressing F2 to display a formula.  Using the Tools/Options dialog,to configure the VBA editor,   I have set font to Courier New Western and pointsize to 10  but NVDA announces it as Ariel 8 point.    

Does anyone know of any work arounds or NVDA parameters I can use to prevent this behaviour from occurring?

hi,
it is a difficult way to do that,
it is better to get a version of abbyy finereader.
that programm can do that for you in the most easy way.
a right click on the pdf you want to make it readable and make the choice
for abbyy finereader.
there you can make the choice to create a readable pdf.
no difference if it is a smal or a big pdf.
that is the way i do it.

Use the NVDA key and the letter U to toggle between off, beeps and
percentages.
I tried it in the program you mentioned and it works.

Hello everyone,
After I upgraded to Windows 10 I have been having some issues with NVDA.
When I am in a document NVDA does not speak lines when I do Up/down
arro, leters when I do left/right arrow, words when I do control_right
arro etc.
The only time it speaks when I do select all or when pressing spacebar
after each word.
The same things happen in brows mode on the Internet.

  I'm a Chinese blind musician Hu Haipeng. I'm a composer, and am
planning a new project called BrailleOrch. I am working with Daniel
Barich, who writes Python scripts. My goal is to make a powerful tool
which can handle 95% of the braille music transcription tasks. This
can make libraries for the blind work with music publishers who use
Finale and Sibelius, to enhance the speed and quality of braille music
transcription. Currently, all softwares of this field, both commercial
and open source, are unsatisfactory, so all libraries for the blind
are still using manual transcription method, which can't produce music
scores quickkly. Since I have read lots of braille scores in various
formats, and have composed some works for piano, orchestra etc, I have
an idea to break this situation. Unfortunately, I'm not a programmer,
so I have to ask for help from people all around the world. The
project just began this year, and Barich has created a Github address
shown below. I have written a very extensive framework of the
software, describing all required functions in it. Is anyone
interested in it? You don't need to learn braille music, but just
Python and musicxml knowledge. Barich and I are all braille music
experts. Anyone who are willing to help us can go to

Next, the question was do I need python, no everything needed is contained in the program.
For the demonstration I found a youtube vid that was 7 minutes long from nvda well about nvda and there are a few of these, I then ran youtube-dl-g executable file.
Layout.
its a simple layout, from what I could figure out, there is an update button to update the program I assume, a ariea for urls and an options button as well as a download button.
I paste in a youtube url and hit download.
I then was able to get access to the file who's location opened on the end of the download and as well as that the program put up a dialog on what to do and then it played in winamp as expected.
So why not the podcast?
While the program was quite simple to use, access wize there were a few things lacking.
While I could guess some of the option pages, control tab when I switched to the next tab the tabs did not speak the first one said tab control but everything else never spoke.
So while I could get access and change audio options, the video types in their combo boxes, and turn on and off audio conversion which seemlessly happens on the fly by the way, I was unable to get the titles of the combo boxes.
So there were a few pages where I have no idea what they were.
As it stands you can with any confidence set the following.
path.
you will want to do that immediately as it defaults to %username% which while fine is not.
I had adobe digital additions do that to me with its settings, this made my user directory inaccessable till I killed the file it made %appdata% not work.
sadly %username% and a few other variables are still screwed over thank god I don't need these that often.
Since there is no brouse button I would set it to something off the root or somewhere you can find stuff later.
for me I put it in the downloads folder off my root which is where I put ftp files to.
the next tab after the general one which also has a reset options button.
has a editable box saying default and by going up and down you can choose the video type downloaded what sort web m mp4 apple, 3gp, mobile and flv flash video of different qualities.
In addition there is a box becide it set to none which I assume has a video you can save it to if you don't want the video in that format.
once you set either the second to none or the first to default the second box is no more.
the default is probably whatever the video came in mostly mp4 apple video.
the next tab has the audio on and off checkbox which is always unticked.
The formats are, mpeg layer 3, apple losless aac, ogg vorbis and microsoft wave.
as they appear in the list they are
mp3
aac, wav and vorbis.
You can set these in the next box high mid or low.
I sadly couldn't customise what those settings were.
The next page is a lot of numbers and I didn't know what those were.
The next page all with control tab I assume because of protected fields is your proxy or something else.
the next 2 pages are numbers and I assume its all to do with networks but I don't know what they do as they don't speak.
there is no ok or cancel so you just alt f4 out of the options window.
Your next question is can youtube -dl -g be used?
Yes.
Can it be used fully, not without some work.
Its also worth noting that its not even passed version 1.0 yet.
I myself don't need to convert many youtube videos however I'd like to test if someone can download a huge video say 2-5 hours long and see what that does to how long it takes.
it took 1 minute at 250kbps to get a 7 minute video on nvda.
I do think that if someone uses this a lot they should probably ask the author to make things more accessable, however all it needs are things like labling of all the options, tabs, boxes, icons, etc as the main issue is that most of the options and interface does not have much labeling and thats probably all it needs.
The main interface is ok, but its just options that are not labeled.
it also did not contain any docs over its readme which being a wing it guy didn't read, and I am confident to say you don't need that file as such.
Being that it is opensource, I am not sure about linux/windows but I am wandering if someone has time they could make this thing work better access wize or write an addon for nvda.
Look round but I don't think much needs to be done.
I may contact the author and see anyway.

* If you are wondering what difference exists between the three
sliders, the NVDACon page explains that by the following quotes:
'5. While in any room, you will see three slider controls after the
list of channels (rooms and channels are the same thing), along with
an edit field. The first edit field is for system and user messages.
The second lets you chat by typing text and pressing enter. The first
slider changes your microphone's sensitivity (gain), the second
changes the volume of the room in general as you hear it, and we are
not sure what the third one does.'
Also, to test your mike audio, in earlier conferences, we did have a
mike audio testing room specifically, but due to technicalities I am
unaware of, our server administrator tells us this may not be possible
to implement in Teamtalk 5, or this NVDACon. If I remember correctly,
the alternative way of checking your microphone is by pressing Ctrl +
4 in any room or channel, and your audio should be echoed back for
your understanding and testing, as I was earlier told by someone.

By the way, for the Android users on this list, I would also like to
mention that the Teamtalk Android app is in development stage
currently, but you still might want to try it out from
http://bearware.dk/?p=279 as its optimal accessibility with Talkback
is explicitly assured. A friend of mine and myself are going to test
the Teamtalk Android app ourselves as well. Will share our findings
once we are thoroughly done with our assessment.
