Good Morning:  I had the same experience.  However, I mainly was given the keyboard with Jaws and told to press the alt + f for file.  Then I was mainly sent on my own to learn by experience.

Hit alt tab, good, never have I heard of in my years of listening to other trainers, “hit alt tab, this is a windows keyboard shortcut.” Now hit capslock t. This is a screen reader shortcut.

Truthfully, it's already a Chat Subgroup or Windows Access for Screen Reader Users Group topic because it has nothing whatsoever to do with NVDA.

This is a classic example of where a question of the type, "How do I use {insert thing here} with NVDA?," is, in actuality, "How do I use {insert thing here} with the keyboard?"   It doesn't matter whether you're using JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, or some other screen reader of which I'm unaware.  Control of File Explorer is entirely "a Windows thing" and your screen reader is simply telling you what's going on.  No screen reader specific commands are ever (or virtually ever, I'm sure someone can pull out some ultra-rare exception) used in working with File Explorer.

I know that there are some members here who very strongly dislike my insistance on being clear about what you're asking about, but just the act of doing that often gets you much closer to the answer, or where you need to seek it.  And it's fairly simple to think about the three levels that you're dealing with, as one of them is almost always the one of clear focus:

1. Windows (or any part of Windows)
2. Your screen reader itself - which is where its commands, configuration, add-ons, and documentation come into the picture
3. The application program the screen reader is being used to access

If what you're asking about falls under categories #1 or #3, it's not a question about your screen reader, and the answers do not depend on which screen reader you use nor even whether you use a screen reader at all, with the very rarest of exceptions.

It only takes a few moments thought to "category sort" and, by extension, know where you should ask the question you're seeking an answer to.

Does having the guess position checkbox checked cause any lag in performance?  If so, since one message indicates that in some versions of Outlook the guess check box isn't necessary to be checked, it would be better to just try having the report position checkbox checked and see if that works before checking the guess position check box.

From within NVDA’s Object Presentation settings ensure that “report object position information” is checked. Also try checking the next check box in this dialog, which is announced as “guess object position when unavailable” which enables this feature to work from within Outlook.

Hi John,

Yes, it works for me.

in outlook 2016, nvda tells me I am on item 24 in a list of 89 for example, or nvda will say I am on file 24 in a list  fo 48   in

In a list of messages  my documents, etc.

I did not choose a particular setting or check box to make this happen.  Nvda has worked this way for me for many years.

Currently I am using nvda 2021.3  with windows 10 21h2.

Some one has your answer.

NVDA is written in Python and C, with hooks, I assume written in Python or C, into the Java Access Bridge. Doesn't it come with the Java Access Bridge nowadays?

There’s a solution to that.  Have a dialogue pop up that says, nvda will restart as x add ons are disabled. Ok, cancel. I personally would not use that feature but it would be nice if someone of us could do this.

I doubt it will ever be.  When you disable an add-on, you must restart NVDA for the command to take effect.  While I would think that could be done when working with profiles, I doubt the developers would want to have NVDA automatically close and restart when a certain profile runs or stops running.

Hi all, I’ve found another problem in the addon, this addon also conflict with the gold wave addon, pressing NVDA plus shift plus r announces remaining time for the currently editing track in gold wave, so if the nao addon is installed, this command is unuseable in gold wave. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the next version!

Hello,

yes, in 2 3 days we think to publish a new version.

So you can define the nvda-shift-r of Nao on whatever you want.

Or, you'll be remapping certain input gestures where you can to get rid of conflicts.

But there is no way any individual add-on developer can or should know what other add-ons you may or may not be using, and there are a finite number of unused keyboard shortcuts, so it's not uncommon for two different developers to happen to have chosen the same one from that finite number.  And sometimes, they're not going to change the one they've chosen, so the choice is remapping an input gesture where possible, or enabling/disabling a given add-on or add-ons as necessary.
