hi.
thanks so much for your quick answer!
may i ask since which version this problem
occured exactly?
i am shure that i did not
have this problem in nvda 2016.1 and before.
how is it in 2016.2?
for me
this problem happens always and in all websites!
nvda completely unusable for me in this
version, because i am
comfortable with
firefox and i only use it!
i forgot to
mentioned, that i dont have this problem in internet
explorer.
i have internet explorer 8 on
windows xp, but i am not comfortable
with
and dont use explorer!
nvda has the most
compatibility with firefox and i used it very great!
how can i beleive this real critical issue?
could you fix it with the pach update like nvda
2016.3.1 and also
could you please test it
with 2016.2.1 or 16.2?
thanks again for your
help.

Heaven, Jacob, et al,

I had a long chat session with the Adobe help team yesterday.

It seems that the problem arises when a document created in some other editor is saved as PDF this problem can arise resulting in spaces not appearing to be standard ones under ISO (or ASCII 32).

With the help of the Adobe support team, I used “adobe Acrobat Pro DC” to reprocess the offending document by printing it “as Adobe” and saving the output document to the hard disk rather than actually printing it. The spaces were all present and no misspellings occurred.

The help team assured me that this problem arises from outside editors and not from within Adobe. Therefore, Adobe can do nothing about it.

Perhaps we could ask Microsoft and other manufacturers of editing programs to examine their processes for creating PDF files and see how this might arise.

The authors of my problem document used Microsoft PowerPoint to create the document and then saved it as .PDF. That suggests that Microsoft have to take this up and sort it out, doesn’t it?

Sheri,

Actually, I ran this PDF document through Abbyyy Finereader and the OCR cured the spacing problem! So, I will have to ask the authors if this document was originally run through OCR to generate the PDF that was sent to me.

The OCR caused another problem that is not in the original: There are tables that contain multiple lines of text within each cell. Abbyyy Finereader put all of the text lines onto separate rows and this makes it difficult to make sense of the tables.

Hi,

Does anyone know what causes some PDF documents to have words that are not separated by a space?

For example: “TheCitizensBoard issuesdocumentsabout organisingevents”

This line of text should clearly have a space between the words.

I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader under Windows 10 and NVDA 2016.3.

This is not new and I often find it. Can anyone explain why it happens or at least what I can do to advise authors on how to avoid sending out these badly structured documents?

Microsoft Calculator Plus - Not the App Store Version

Hello All,

There are lots of people, myself included, who do not really care for the Windows 10 built-in calculator app nor for the App Store Calculator Plus app.

I always preferred, and still do prefer, the Microsoft Calculator that I was familiar with from the Windows 7 days.  That is still downloadable from Microsoft on the page for the Microsoft Calculator Plus program [which would now be called a desktop app, and is if I search for it now that it's installed on my machine].

If you use the click-through link I provided you can download the MSI installer for the program.  If you've wanted to return to using "good, old-fashioned calculator with its classic, scientific, and conversion views now you can.

Hi everyone, mostly for NVDA users,

Windows 10 App Essentials 16.09.2 is now available for download. Please read the release notes posted on the following site:

https://github.com/josephsl/wintenapps/releases/tag/16.09.2

Among other things, this version fixes a long standing issue where NVDA kept announcing gibberish when you talk to Cortana.

Note that you’ll need NVDA 2016.3 to use this add-on effectively, and this add-on will not install on Windows versions older than Windows 7 service pack 1 in consideration for those who would install this add-on prior to upgrading to Windows 10.

For new friends: Windows 10 App Essentials is an NVDA add-on that enhances support for Windows 10 controls and universal apps. Highlights of the add-on include ability to read text responses from Cortana, announcing progress of Windows Update, reading notifications from Microsoft Edge, reading forecast information in Weather, location beeps in Maps app and more.

As always, feedback is appreciated. Enjoy the new add-on release. Thanks.

Cheers,

Joseph

Re: Windows 10 App Essentials 16.09.2 released

Hi,
The fastest way is:
1. Go to addons.nvda-project.org.
2. Go to Windows 10 App Essentials link.
3. Select "stable version" link, which will then ask you to save or open the add-on file (the latest is 16.10).

Note that the add-on will require Windows 10 version 1507 (build 10240) or later. In December, the add-on will officially switch off susport for build 10240 (by that time, only 10586, 14393 or latest Redstone 2 builds will be supported).
Cheers,
Joseph

Subject: [nvda] Windows 10 App Essentials 16.09.2 released

Thanks.

Cheers,

Joseph

i use it daily to add up totals for orders or to figure out
percentages for tax purposes, etc. It's very handy as it's just a
keyboard shortcut away.

Hi,
Calculator: yes, this is why I'll continue to advocate that MS do
something about enhancing access to UWP apps by screen readers and their
users.

Mail app works for me ok
The calculator only announces the numbers entered when you click on the
numbers in the app but not when you use the physical keypad
On your keyboard

I've been consistently unable to see messages on 10 since the anniversary update. I can get an idea of which part of windows its about as it tends to land with that button in focus, but not actually seeing the messages, not even with nvda/b, which now seems to act like a loop and reads the same bit of the screen forever unless you stop it.

Re: Next won't install on xp

i read that ui automation works on windows seven and later.

i studied user guide and realized this subject.

i did not test snapshot versions.
nvda hangs for me since version 2016.2 and after.
i heard also from many people that nvda in 2016 is not responsible
completely.

No same snaps are fine on the newer versions of windows.
The log file is pretty obvious. Are you saying the snaps work on your
version of xp? I find that hard to believe if true as I've tested the
last
few snaps on four machines so far which run xp and the same uia errors
appear on all of them.
Its a bug that is all.
