Re: Merry Christmas, NVDA Input Gestures Demo

Jacob Kruger

Nimer, one thing I might have mentioned in the demo is that, if you shift+tab off the treeview in the input gestures dialogue, then you land in a search box, which can make it a lot easier to find some gesture items, since that treeview contains a lot of items?

In any case, the latest video is out. It is a Christmas message, as well as a quick guide on the NVDA Input Gestures settings. Using the Input Gestures settings, I've demonstrated how to assign keyboard commands for a flattened mode of next and previous object navigation, which is the equivalent of the JAWS touch cursor, and is similar to Narrator navigation, and can help you access programs which may have accessibility challenges. I've also assigned a keyboard command to turn on and off the screen curtain. Using the steps I provide, you can change or add gestures or keyboard commands for NVDA functionality.

WebEx screen share inaccessibility?

Sally Kiebdaj

Hello all,

Is anyone successfully sharing their screen and retaining control of their meeting in WebEx with NVDA?

I've been corresponding with WebEx Accessibility support and they seem to think it is possible but my experience is that it's not. Can anyone weigh in on whether or not I'm missing something?

Here is what I'm experiencing:
In any meeting, I am able to successfully control my microphone, video, and attendance using hotkeys. I am also able to start screen sharing including selecting which program is shared. However, this is when things stop working.

Once a window is shared, all current meeting controls move to a "floating" meeting control bar above the shared window content. I cannot get NVDA to focus on that floating meeting control bar in order to interact with any of the meeting controls such as microphone, video, leaving the meeting, or stopping screen share.

Accessibility support has suggested using the Ctrl+Shift+Q shortcut for toggling between showing and hiding the meeting control bar while sharing in order to place focus on the meeting control bar. I do get focus on the show/hide warning dialogue . However, in my case focus immediately returns to the shared window content after I press "ok" in the dialogue

Additionally, none of the meeting control hotkeys work, Probably because they are not global and focus is not "on" the WebEx meeting.

My environment is:
WebEx 41.11.0.20717
Windows 10 Version 2004 (OS Build 19041.1348)
NVDA 2021.3

After sharing the contents of a window, is anyone able to get focus on the meeting control bar or otherwise interact with the current meeting?

For now, I get stuck with whatever microphone/video state I have and am unable to stop screen sharing or leave/end the meeting.

Any and all experience/comments would be helpful.

Thank you!
Sally

A Two Part Question

H l

Hey everyone,

This is a two-part question, the second of which is nothing really to do with NVDA.

I need to take a screenshot ofmy online bank statement showin the balance. How do I do this using NVDA? I can never remember if it’s just the screen print key or another key in combination with that.

The other part of my question is – how do I make my screenshots save directly to the screenshots in the fictures directory on the computer? I don’t want my stuff saved not the one drive at all if I can help it.

Thanks in advance for any help,

Harmony.

Felix, I have a lot of other add-ons installed, including console toolkit, global commands extension, etc. - those two might affect this side of it, but, have no experience with that interpreter, so, sorry can't help more.

Re: NVDA add-ons resources differences?

Well the first is the official site.
I never heard about the second, it may be an unofficial site certainly
looks like it.
Not sure who even does it but its not the main site.

that aren’t. Those that aren’t may have malicious code. That isn’t to say
that most of them do. I haven’t seen much of anything on the subject. But
many unofficially offered add-ons are not malicious. Some add-ons are being
evaluated by those working for the official site and may be on the
unofficial site before they have finished being evaluated.

If you aren’t sure, you might want to ask about a specific add-on.

Hello everyone.

I am somewhat confused.

regarding the two following resources for NVDA add-ons, why do two
sources exists? As a posed to just one main central resource.

The first which can be accessed by the following keystrokes.

Caps-Lock N, for NVDA Menu, T, tools,A, manage add-ons, alt G, get add-ons.

Or the following link.

Re: NVDA add-ons resources differences?

John Isige

Basically? I think because there's a process to go through to get your
addon added to the NVDA Community Addons site, your first link, and some
people don't want to do that. You had, probably still do, other addon
sites floating around with half-finished addons and illegal addons and
the like.

So I'm guessing somebody wanted to make a site to sort of vet some of
those other addons. There are addons that haven't gone through the
process to get on the community site, but that doesn't mean those addons
are necessarily bad. I also have a feeling that there are addons in
other languages besides English, and again, I don't think there are any
of those on the Community site. So there's another reason to have a site
that might catch some of those things. If they can develop a good
reputation, it's another resource for people to go to, and a way to get
good addons to people even if developers don't feel like going through
the process to get on the Community site.

Re: Christmas present from Joseph Lee: Add-on Updater and Windows App Essentials 22.01 #addonrelease

Hi,

Part of that depends on when NV Access folks will get a chance to review the distribution queue a.k.a. pull requests.

Cheers,

Hi Joseph.  I'm currently checking the group archive from a computer that only has core NVDA installed, but I have the add-ons mentioned in this thread installed on my own pc.  Will the add-ons in question be likely to receive community approval by January, and therefore be caught by Add-on Updater?  This thread will likely be further back in the archive by the time I can check it on my own pc to retrieve  the direct download links.

Thanks,

Louise

Re: Site down

<grin>

I haven't had that but I find it interesting whow much damage or fake damage a dead wireless card can actually do.

Its all fixable for the most part with a new card but thats another story.

But yeah we had a hardware failure at one of our data centres in australia.

Took the net down for ages till it could be transfered over to another location, made things really slow for ages.

Then again, there was a big generator blowout in the main city a couple years back.

Everything including the net dropped out for 30 minutes.

For me and most of us it was back in 30 minutes with power back in 10.

For the folks in the city though it was weeks.

animals or birds sleeping on top of warm transformers don't mix.
