Re: Audio ducking not supported

It certainly can't hurt to try:  Using DISM (Deployment Imaging Servicing and Management) and SFC (System File Checker) to Repair Windows 8 & 10

If that doesn't do it, I'd try completely uninstalling NVDA and reinstalling.  I've got NVDA 2021.3 (right now 2021.3.1 is downloading) and NVDA + SHIFT + D cycles through the three ducking states without issue.

Hello,  Have you tried the Telugu voice from Hear 2 Read, It has a SAPI-5 interface, and we have been giving guidance to the team on building an NVDA add-on.

I would be interested to hear your opinion of the quality. I am sure it is better than E-speak.

Audio ducking not supported

Nikola Jovic

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone encountered the following issue:

Under Windows 10, 21 H 2 in this case, NVDA obviously installed, NVDA reports "Audio ducking not supported" when trying to use NVDA shift D to cycle between the available audio ducking modes.

I am using NVDA 2021.3.1, and I have tried several other versions as well.

With NVDA 2021.3 or 2021.2 audio ducking does not work for me either, but I can use it just fine with NVDA 2021.1.

I suspect something broke on my system or there was a certain change I am not aware of, since I use audio ducking almost daily and it definitely was not broken for two versions without me noticing, thus posting here to see if someone has any clues rather than creating a GitHub issue.

Thanks for any help.

Office 365 Outlook and Browser Nav

William

Hello,

According to manual of BrowserNav,

• 0 or Shift+0: Jump to next or previous tree view.

On the web version of the Office365 Outlook, there is a tree view that user can press up or down arrow to shift current folder.

But pressing 0, it said there is no treeview, why does that happen?

I always have to tap many times in order to put the focus onto the treeview.

Any advice is welcome.

William

I listened to part of the demonstration of the add-on and it is a very good presentation, as usual.  I’ve seen a lot of discussion of the add-on on the list and it is very interesting to see its features and abilities demonstrated.  I didn’t realize it could do some things you demonstrated.

Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, StationPlaylist: goodbye for now, version 22.01 released #addonrelease

Hello NVDA users,

Happy new year to the NVDA community! Even as we move to 2022, please don’t forget that we are still living through a once in a century pandemic. Please wear masks in public, wash hands, get vaccinated if you can and are able, and follow guidance from local public health officials.

It is with heavy heart that I announce the release of version 22.01 and the end of maintenance for the following add-ons for now (manual download):

For now these are manual updates; I will update this thread once Add-on Updater begins offering these updates to you. Also, a good news: Noelia Martinez, author and maintainer of Read Feeds, Place Markers and other add-ons you know and love, have agreed to maintain Control Usage Assistant.

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • There may or may not be a NVDA 2022.1 compatibility update for add-ons that are not picked up by authors in the community – it is likely that I will release updates shortly after NVDA 2022.1 beta 1 is released (it is up to Noelia if she wants to release Control Usage Assistant compatibility update, and I expect she will).
  • It is likely that version 22.01 of these add-ons will be one of the last releases to support Windows 7 and 8 (Windows 8.1 is supported by Microsoft until January 2023).
  • Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, and GoldWave are purely my creations, whereas Resource Monitor and StationPlaylist had maintainers before I took over their maintenance.

In some ways, publishing and maintaining NVDA add-ons became one of the reasons for continued community contributions for me. More than founding NVDACon, producing audio tutorials, leading courses on add-on development, being a moderator of this very forum at one point, and contributing features to NVDA screen reader, writing add-ons became the best way I felt I can contribute my skill as a programmer and practice computer science beyond the classroom. Although I’m letting go of most add-ons to focus on graduate school (more so now that I am also a graduate teaching associate), I know that these add-ons will forever be a part of me. To users of Control Usage Assistant, Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, and StationPlaylist, use these add-ons to make a difference not only for yourselves, but also for others – not only the NVDA community, but folks outside of it, too.

I would like to take this time to thank everyone who have provided all kinds of feedback about these add-ons – bug reports, feature suggestions, pull requests, code advice, and countless others. I know that these add-ons are in the hands of the community who can improve them as time goes on. I hope these add-ons (specifically, source code) can become a handy reference for authors, both new and veterans. As I noted above, if no-one is maintaining these add-ons by the time NVDA 2022.1 beta 1 is released, I will release compatibility updates. But for now (to make it official):

I, Joseph Lee, hereby declare end of maintenance for the following add-ons as of 00:00 UTC on January 1, 2022: Control Usage Assistant (to be maintained by Noelia Martinez from now on), Enhanced Touch Gestures, GoldWave, Resource Monitor, StationPlaylist, with basic provisions in place to declare support for upcoming NVDA 2022.1 changes.

Thank you.

Cheers,

Joseph

Dear Sajid Sir,
Has your problem been solved? If no, do the following:
1. Select eSpeak as the TTS engine by pressing insert+ctrl+s.
2. Now, press ctrl+insert+v for NVDA settings and press tab a couple
of times and select Telugu voice from the combo box and press enter.
3. You can also use other TTS engines if you had already installed
them. For instance, Hear2Read, Geeta.

Add-on 22.01 release part 2: CLock 22.01, end of maintenance from Joseph Lee #addonrelease

Hi all,

Second part of add-on release announcements:

Clock add-on 22.01 is now available. No changes to the user interface and documentation from version 21.11 – today’s release is a localization update:

https://github.com/hkatic/clock/releases/download/v22.01/clock-22.01.nvda-addon

Note that a dialog about configuration format may show up while installing the add-on. If this happens, select OK, finish installing the add-on, restart NVDA, then reconfigure date and time announcement format from Clock settings panel.

As the subject line indicates, this is the final version of Clock add-on under my maintenance. Earlier in 2021 I asked maintainers of Clock add-on if I can modernize the add-on, and maintainers said yes. Version 22.01 is the culmination of this work – Clock add-on has seen vast improvements, including localization updates, user interface message improvements, among other things. As I hand the add-on to the community, I would like to thank everyone who have provided feedback about this add-on for several months, and a special thank you to add-on maintainers for all their work with this add-on (and with that, Joseph Lee signs out of Clock add-on maintenance).

Cheers,

Joseph

locked Re: NVAccess Confirms: NVDA is NOT vulnerable to Log4j

Edited

This topic will be locked after this post, but it does deserve a bump, as we've just received another question about NVDA and Log4j.

NVAccess has explicitly confirmed that NVDA is not vulnerable to Log4j, and that notice is posted here: https://www.nvaccess.org/corporate-government/

The notice, near the top of the page, and in italics, reads:  Note: We have had several questions regarding the Apache Log4j2 vulnerability, which is in the news currently. We can confirm that neither NVDA itself, nor the surrounding NV Access architecture (our website, servers, etc) are vulnerable or affected by this issue.

This is the definitive statement on NVDA and the fact that it is not vulnerable to Log4j.

Re: NVDA add-ons resources differences?

José Manuel Delicado Alcolea

Hi,

After receiving several review requests on nvda-addons.org, I want to clarify something important: we won't accept forked add-ons that aren't properly identified as such. This includes modifying manifest, documentation and even code comments to explain this is a forked copy / derivative work and mention the original author's name, following GPL version 2 terms.

Specifically, we have received requests like the following:

- VoiceOver by Technology and news: https://nvda-addons.org/revreq.php?id=18

- أصوات NVDA PC- by Technology And News (أصوات NVDA PC- by Technology And News): https://nvda-addons.org/revreq.php?id=20

Both are modified versions of Objsounds, created by Tyler Spivey and updated by Chris Leo. They include different sounds and a modified manifest, without Tyler or Chris names. The Python code and translations remain unchanged, including the original comments. I feel this is a bit disrespectful for the original authors, who have spent a lot of hours and effort developing, testing and maintaining the add-on.

Also, a Telegram channel URL is not a valid URL. I'll update the review guidelines to restrict valid URLs to those which can be opened and read from a web browser.

Regards.

Hi everyone,

Before answering to the question about code review, I should explain what nvda-addons.org is and why it was created. This is the first time I participate on this list, so I don't know if another member of the NVDA.es group has already done it before.

One of the main goals of the spanish community is to collect all available add-ons around the world in a single directory, excluding illegal and malicious ones. We are aware that we won't achieve completely this goal, but we continue exploring several groups, GitHub profiles and repositories, websites created by other communities, etc. This brings many advantages to our users and developers. Repeated work is avoided, people knows about wonderful add-ons developed outside the community, and our developers have very good code samples that they can use as starting points. I could list even more advantages, but this message would become too long.

Maintaining the directory becomes harder as more add-ons are added. We have to watch the source repositories, websites and so on when available and notify the community of add-on updates. This is the reason we developed our first solution: https://github.com/nvda-es/advancedAddonFiles

Since the directory became machine-readable and exportable in JSON format, Héctor decided to create the "Tienda NVDA.es" add-on, translated as "NVDA.es store". Updates are available as soon as the download links are modified from the web interface, avoiding delays seen in the international community, which relies on other procedures. User accounts can be created for add-on authors, who can update download links for their NVDA add-ons, but can't register or delete add-ons from the database.

The nvda-addons.org website is built on top of this web application, and aims to share all we have achieved so far beyond the spanish community.

After this short introduction, It's time to talk about reviews. We take code reviews very seriously, specially since review process is optional in the international community. When an add-on author introduces their work in the spanish mailing list, we perform a deep review and provide suggestions. When corrections are applied, we upload it to nvda-addons.org and publish the add-on documentation translated to spanish on the nvda.es website.

If the add-on comes from outside, a light validation is performed. Only security issues and license / copyright are checked in this case.

On november 2021, we published a guide on how to review add-ons. We encourage you to take a look. Use the Google Translate combo box located inside the web page or the translator of your choice: https://nvda.es/documentacion/desarrollo/documentacion-de-la-comunidad-hispanohablante/guia-de-revision-de-complementos/

Regards.

I have been asked a question about the following.

I know there is a setting called Automatic language switching (when supported) under the voice settings in nvda and another one for Automatic dialect switching (when supported)

just under it.

I am guessing the person needs to have a synth that speaks the other language and another they want to hear it in.

I think I read some where if the language is marked up correctly on the web say German if you have a german synth it should start speaking in that language and if it is then marked up en english the other synth starts up

Does it only have to be done on the web or can it be in a PDF document or can it say be in word?

What would the person have to do to have it change between the 2 languages in NVDA? I said i had no clue so thought I would ask some one who already does it to swap between there language and say english.

Re: NVDA: INSTALLING CLIPSPEAK

Clipspeak in its official version (1.1 Stable) is compatible only up through NVDA 2019.3.  Unless this add-on's developer maintains it, or a new person takes it over, the time is rapidly coming when "just a manifest tweak" isn't going to save it.

See this message on the archive, https://nvda.groups.io/g/nvda/message/89365, for a workaround version.
